Merged: Ray Rice Released and Suspended

2,774 posts in this topic

so you wouldn't care if he knocked out a dude or a son the same way? it should be bad conscience as well imo. it's okay for a dude to assault a dude and not face a harsh penalty?

as i maintained assault is assault....and based on the TMZ he looks like the bully.

Of course it's not okay !

That's not what happened and I didn't think I needed to write any scenario that could have happened other than the facts.

Hopefully your next post is better than the one I quoted.

yea it was the side of head the first one then she went at him, he clearly instigated the violence.

I thought she struck first - it was kinda hard to see exactly.

It's kind of a moot point, mind, as her striking first doesn't defend his actions at all. Being that she's an average woman and he's an NFL athlete.

The video has been altered! A ghost possessed him to punch her! LOUD NOISES!

Seriously people? Seriously?

Come on.

the video is not consistent with the story and police report....this is completely different and makes him a bully.

At first i thought he was responding to a viscous attack of being punched in the face and spit on...then reacted.

It's possible that the fight started outside the elevator. If that's the case then it was finished. Or it should have been, until Rice decided to continue it with a two fist salute in the elevator.

That's all I need to know.

Just a suggestion, but I think the Mod should end this discussion. There are thousands of players in the NFL and I choose to believe the majority of them are morally decent people.  It's extremely disappointing and disturbing when this [profanity deleted] happens, regardless of whether it's an NFL player or anybody else. But it's not like it's unique to the Ravens. Every team has em.

It's sucks for Baltimore in this particular case as it sucks for any other city that has to take a hit based on the actions of what I hope is just a very few scumbags throughout the league.

It's football season folks. We wait a long time for it to come back around every year. Don't let the few ruin it for the majority and for us fans. Time to move on

Disgusting and agree with Fly, it just puts a sour taste in your mouth. Ray screwed up, the legal system has taken its course, the NFL has taken its course.

Figures this video comes out now, during Week 1, weeks after the suspension was levied.

Self defense?!?!? She wasn't even looking at him when he hit her first. Who cares what happened before the elevator. Guy, girl, whatever, he approached a person who had aggravated him and assaulted them. That's the definition of aggravated assault. She was standing still looking at the front of the elevator. Why would he have to defend himself against that?

Actually the definition of aggravated assault is this:

A person is guilty of aggravated assault if he or she attempts to cause serious bodily injury to another or causes such injury purposely, knowingly, or recklessly under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life

That last part is extremely subjective. There's no doubt that he knocked her out, but what constitutes "serious bodily injury"?

I've seen fights between college kids get more violent and bloody, and no charges were levied against either party.

I don't condone Ray's actions at all, but I have to consider the scale of potential violence and his relatively high public visibility when it comes to how this whole thing played out.

fair enough. But i feel people act like dudes runs around punching/fighting each other and it's okay....and the situation is only bad because it's a woman.

The video changes everything because this is not how it was presented. Yes, a lot people said it doesn't matter what she did because she's a woman, which is asinine. I said I needed to see the video and I expected a viscous attack on her part in the elevator, which I have not seen at all.

Not trying to polish it or protect ANYONE.  I believe, once again, and won't defend it again... Complete information and total view of the situation before judgment does matter. One version is clearly edited for sensationalism.

One version is the complete video of them walking in the elevator and inside the elevator

the other version is just the punch inside the elevator

Is this what your referring too?

For those that believe the TMZ video has been altered, you're right, it has been altered. If you saw or looked at the original article on TMZ with the video, in the article, they (TMZ) themselves clearly say they did edit the video because the original was very choppy.

Doesn't take away from anything that happened though.

Can the league change Rices suspension after seeing this?

The NFLPA would throw a fit. Or maybe not, considering how bad this is for PR.

All I know is that I don't know how anyone can defend this. And people who say "let's just stop talking about it" go ahead. That won't stop the world from talking about it though.

The one is perfectly clear...  no slow motion and not chopped up...  yes.

I refuse to comment (or, at least share my thoughts) on what happened in the video.

However, today's press conference is going to be really interesting. I want to hear a truthful and completely honest John Harbaugh say his opinion on the manner and what will happen with Ray Rice. Will Steve Bisciotti say anything about this situation.

I don't want to say it; but, it wouldn't surprise me if the Ravens decide to at least make Rice a healthy inactive for a good while.

Agreed. I sincerely hope that they never say the video because if they DID and still decided to warmly wrap their arms around him then I really don't know what to say about that.

I'm pretty sure they already saw it  and most likely won't  add more games to  Ray Rice suspension

Guys DONT forget the other facts there was alcohol and it was late at night.

You're right. On top of the punishment Rice recieved, he should now also go to AA or some form of alcohol abuse class.

You say he knocked her unconscious and in the same sentence question if what he did constitutes serious bodily harm? You stated this could be pleaded as self defense? What are you talking about?

It's out there DW...  the organization will address it, I am sure.  We know emotions are high with regard to this issue, and we will more than likely allow discussion as long as it stays civil. The forum rules apply, and personal attacks and profanity will not be permitted as is the case in any thread.  Opinions are allowed.  Each of us has one.  And folks should not have to worry about how they feel about theirs.

As long as people keep it clean, and reasonable.

Team needs to take a stance. He can't be activated all year. Let him ride the inactives.

This is what I'm waiting for. I feel the NFL is past it's statute for changing his punishment without union backlash, but the release of this gives the team (or even Ray himself) a chance to extend a harsher suspension or punishment. They can't sit around and hope the situation is taken care of for them anymore.

Wow .. definitely a surprise to wake up to. The video speaks for itself, I'm wondering if the suspension is going to be lengthened now that this is out.

How he didn't get suspended for the year is unbelievable.

No wonder the commissioner, who must have known the whole tape would be leaked, changed his tune about domestic abuse recently.

We still don't have salary room to release him. Thinking we will is a pipe dream, we would have to cut one or two other players just to absorb the hit.

The best that can be done is making him a healthy scratch. Forsett looked good, give him the job.

Yeah, I think it's in the team's hands for now. Be interesting to see what they do. I wouldn't be opposed to having him introduced to the inactive bench. Like I said earlier, I'd like to see the league make it easier for teams to cut ties with players in similar situations.

I'm not convinced they saw the whole tape. The policy was to temper the PR hit from the initial suspension and the quell comparisons to the Gordon suspension.

The video is ugly. How he did not get a year's suspension anyway is beyond me.
