Merged: Ray Rice Released and Suspended

2,774 posts in this topic

Think Ray will man up and at least suspend himself the additional 4 games to meet the new league minimum for a first domestic violence offence?

Would it suffice to suspend him the rest of season, or just cut him?

Deactivate him.. Would probably be the only decent option

Hilarious! Good one.

What is the current CAP hit for Ray?

According to Sportrac, it would be roughly a $8 million cap hit. It's worth it, imo. The integrity of the organization is at stake. We have to have standards.

He should have done that a long time ago.

Why should he?

No, not really. We made it through the Lewis affair just fine. This is much less serious than that.

Yeah....I think he lead the organization on to how how bad the incident really was. THat just made his first press conference that much worse. We need to cut him now. Screw the cap hit.

Question to moderators.

Could you please direct us to the appropriate contact for the Baltimore Ravens regarding any type of reimbursement or trade-off for Ray Rice jerseys bought via BR Store or NFL shop?

Thanks

I like how I got 3 negatives in a matter of minutes after posting this. For a second, I thought I was the one who punched my fiancé. Regardless of how strongly anyone chooses to support Rice, it's unfair to the fans who have no option in trading a jersey of a particular player after they do something like this.

I suggested with timerity everyone exercise patience and wait for all the facts to come in. I told countless people that Rice was a first time offender, and that the league had suspened Josh Gordon because it was his third offense, but with the release of the video I am totally without any reasonable argument. I cannot even justify keeping him on the team.

Anything less than a release will be a huge blight on this team and the city of Baltimore - a tremendous PR nightmare beyond anything we have experienced as a team before. Even worse than the backlash over Ray Lewis' trial.

I can't see that happening, but I would like to see them add more to the suspension. I think that saves the Ravens image mostly, and certainly capwise. From the article someone posted with some media sources saying the Ravens had not seen the video, but now that they have, it is in line with what Ray himself had described to them.

I really wish when it was announced as a 2 game suspension by the league that the Ravens stood up at the presser and added on 2 games themselves to make it a 4 game suspension. It looks real bad on the organization if that video shows exactly what Ray told you happened and you don't suspend him on top of the leagues suspension.

Why would they do that? Because you want it?

Because there is a precedence for them allowing teams to recoup money and such for releasing a player due to legal issues.

No, not even remotely close. What is the world coming to when just because we purchase a product, we can meddle in the internal affairs of a business? Should we be able to have our say next time an employee at McDonalds gets in trouble, just because we bought a McDouble a couple months ago?

You can make your statement by refusing to spend your money on this team.

I dont know with the way this is rubbing alot of fans, this will eventually hurt the business aspect of it. If we stop buying tickets and merchandise they will see the effect of it. It's kind of having a say in it I guess.

You fans are absolutely unbelievable. This is basically double jeopardy. You're essentially condemning him for the same crime twice. The facts of the case havent changed. He should not have his suspension lengthened. He should not be released. He already admitted to all of this. Its not like he lied about either. There is no way the NFL and police did not have this video. There is no way that everyone and their mother involved did not know about this. The only difference is you are seeing it now rather than hearing about it.

What Rice did is deplorable and I in no way condone it, but he got his punishment, he is serving it. If you have a problem with the punishment, then you should have had a problem with it a month ago. The fact that there wasn't this level of outrage a month ago tells me that ppl here are just sensationalized.

Not true. If the NFL tried to increase his penalty that would be double jeopardy but the rules governing player discipline allow for the team AND the NFL to punish players. If the team punishes a player and the NFL believes it is adequate can choose to not punish him or if they believe it is not enough can punish them on their own (which is what they did since the Ravens did nothing) but nothing says after the NFL has punished him the team can't make the punishment more severe. It comes down to money and nothing else. If the Ravens fan base throws enough of a fit and PSL owners start threatening to not attend games and spend money, then it will change. I believe the Ravens are a family, but there are times when even family members have to be ostracized and punished. Many people would do anything to keep a family member from punishment but sometimes punishment is the best for that person even if it means they have to go away.

Well, the Ravens did restructure Webb's contract and signed Fitzgerald Toussaint to the 53-man roster; so... maybe they were ready for this? Or, maybe that was a mere coincidence?

Either way, how much could the league help Baltimore with Rice's contract? Could they essentially void all non-guaranteed money from his deal?

If the NFL suspended him for the year. The Ravens could cut him after his suspension was lifted and avoid the cap penalty. If the Ravens went with the conduct detrimental to the team option they could void out his deal. The problem with both of those options are that the league already ruled on his situation as did the team. So what changed from then to now? He told you what he did and now you actually see it. I know video is stronger than words but what can you do. If you outright release him it kills the teams cap and makes it hard to sign the Smith's. Unless you plan on releasing Suggs and Ngata you won't have any room to help the team out.

Also, if it's true he's got no support in the locker-room and, in turn, the topic of Ray Rice is becoming cancerous to moral and distracting from focus then the decision is very easy. Cut him.

It's the one and only thing that has them shaking in their boots right now. All you guys who want Rice off the team (I am not one of them), here's what you do ---

Send emails and letters to the Ravens, let them know that due to your dissatisfaction of the way they handled all this, you will no longer buy merchandise, attend games, or watch games on TV.

Then FOLLOW THROUGH with it. If you do not, then it serves no purpose, and really, it just shows that it really isn't that big a deal to you in the first place (which is perfectly fine. as I said earlier, the action of one person is not capable of destroying my love for this team)

... believe me I plan on throwing his jersey in the trash when I get home ...

Good for you. And the Ravens will happily sell you another of a different player. And the beat goes on.

I just read an article that said the locker room is turning on Rice right now because he lied to everyone, saying he was defending himself.

Does anyone remember if the NFL gave the Patriots cap relief from Aaron Hernandez after his whole situation?

The Patriots got the amount of relief they deserved for employing a criminal - zero. Same for Ravens.

1) there is a Questions forum...no need to hijack a thread.

2) go to the main site, find the "Contact Us" link and click on it.

I supported Ray Rice believing that somehow he was provoked and it was a quick lapse of poor judgement resulting from a heated argument and her attacking him. After watching the video, looks like she was not out of control and he hit her twice. Ray Rice could have easily control this by not hitting her the first time by the elevator buttons and then could have prevent it from escalating by apologizing and holding her at bay with his arms. After seeing this video, I am changing my stance on this one, I see nothing violent from Janay and Ray Rice hitting her twice instead of ignoring her or making efforts to keep calm till it cools down. I feel tricked by Ray Rice that there was a reason for it, I saw no reason whatsoever that justifies a fully grown muscular man smacking a woman twice. He has gotta go, as a fan I will not support him as a member of the Baltimore Ravens football team.

does it matter what was said.....and do you need to see more.......she wasnt doing anything that deserved what she got

I can't believe I am agreeing with a Steelers fan but your right.  Ray Rice was one of my favorite players on the team all the anti bullying work community work, he was a guy I looked up to, but now I just don't know what to think

Welp. That sucked.

Fwiw, this is pretty much exactly what I suspected was on the video all along. For the "you just don't know until you've seen the video" crowd... Well, now I know what I figured all along.
