Merged: Ray Rice Released and Suspended

2,774 posts in this topic

No, it doesn't work that way. If you  decide to physically attack someone and harm them, that is enough to defend yourself. I hate how people think a woman can get away with anything but it's the man who should be reserved?

she was referring to this specific situation. And Ray Rice provoked her... for her to even attempt to throw a punch in the elevator.

she was referring to this specific situation.

I know that and my point still stands. I'm not condoning this at all. I just don't like this whole atitude as if a woman can do what ashe wants and a man is supposed to just always walk away. It isn't always that easy

looked like he spit on her and then she tapped him to get into the elevator. she responded like a parent getting an out of line childs attention.

i thought rice was apologizing for self defense and caving into impunity for women..... and I was in support of rice and against the media and  people that absoluted the situation. But she didn't do anything.

You guys who think he spit on her must be referring to where he seems to peck at her with the bill of his ball cap. Now that you mention it, that movement could be from him spitting on her. I also saw her turn her head to face him where it looks like she might have spit on him. Maybe they both expectorated...ugh, I don't know what to think, always saw Ray as one of the good guys on the team/league.

At least we'll never see something like this from Joe, Torrey, Dennis, Marshal, Haloti, Lardarius, Jimmy...

Right?

After watching that video I've lost every little bit of respect I had left for Rice. I know it's business but I hope the Ravens do the right thing and release him.

Don't go there, man.

It won't end well.

It just won't.

Apparently the Ravens and NFL were given the details of what happened, and so far the video accurately reflects what Rice told them months ago.  This new release probably doesn't change anything, just makes it fresh.  I mean, we all know he punched her, right?  So what's new?

BTW, the media is laying into Rice hard right now!

Video shows a member of the Ravens organization spit on a woman twice then punch her in the face knocking her unconscious nearly killing her because of her fall.

And he's still on the team.  All respect lost for this org if they don't let this creep go.

From what I'm hearing of the videos. It shows that Ray Rice spit on her multiple times before the elevator and then hits her when she approaches him. Then he just looks down on her the mother of his child like she's a bag of mulch. That's despicable. You should get a second chance but how do you make that type of mistake in the first place. I just have to believe that he isn't the person he represented himself to be. I do think this incident changed him and he will never do this ever again but this is horrible. I think you still give him a chance to atone for this but he needs 6 games from the NFL for this situation and then another 2,4, or 6 games in addition to that.

wow that is inexcusable.......i know im getting negged for this but i never want to hear the league favors the steelers ever again from you guys.......he only got two games for this, while ben got 4 for something that was unprovable.......its just shameful.

Ray rice hit her twice....its not like he lost his head he punched her she ran at him and he layed her out hard.....disgusting

So, you are saying that ben wasn't caught on camera is the difference?

I'd cut him.  After that video...jeez.  I'm all for giving people the benefit of the doubt but that is ridiculous.  She never struck him.  Swatted at him like a you would a fly maybe.  He hit her once and when she approached he rocked her.  This is inexcusable.  Cut him.

Agreed.  I really question the morals of some of the people in here.  It truly makes one understand some of the stories one hears in the news.  Any excuse that attempts to condone one knocking a woman (fiancé) unconscious is simply disturbing.

I just wonder how someone can watch that video and even think, "Yeah, but, well...she had it coming".  What is this world coming to?

I don't need to see #27 on the Ravens sideline ever again.

Everything he stood for was/is a complete sham.  Anti-bullying...while he cold-[profanity deleted] his fiancé and then stands there looking at her?  Nah  Feed your ... to someone else Ray.

Cut him. Please cut him or trade him. I love the Ravens but if nothing comes of this video, I don't know how I could root for the organization any more...

The double standards in this league are so absurd. Ray Mcdonald the 49ers DE beat his 10 week pregnant fiancee this week and played in this weeks games. Josh Brent the cowboys DT killed his teammate driving drunk and by witness accounts refused to pull him from the car as he screamed for help. Jerry jones said he was surprised he got suspended for 10 games the team thought it would be shorter. Ray rice is likely to be cut and may never play in the NFL again? That is absolutely insane. He should be released and suspended this entire season but really people. I guess killing someone is lesser offense.

Well, it is a difference. This has proof. Big Ben's case was just "he said she said." Video proof makes a huge difference.

Kevin Byrne, Steve Bischotti, John Harbaugh, Dick Cass

I am calling you out.

You worthless pieces of [crap]! It's pretty sad that I am a huge fan of Byrne and his Friday articles and look forward to them each week.  I am shamed today to be called a Ravens fan. You knew about this all this time and you simply condoned an act like this?

What's wrong with you? Would you be calm if someone did the same to your daughter?

The lack of *any* action by the Ravens is baffling. Byrne, you are just another hypocrite doing his PR job just like a criminal lawyer does his. Have some integrity.

Give me a break. They're not here to act like moral police. They're here to win games. If Rice helps them do that, he will remain on the team.

I would seriously question the integrity and moral fortitude of the decision makers if Ray Rice is not severely punished or removed from this team. If my employee was caught on camera doing something like this, he would be terminated effective immediately, regardless of his value or position.

Don't get me wrong, Forsett looked great, but to say he's proven to be the capable starter is a bit early, no?

He'll never wear the Purple and Black again. Nor should he.

Absolutely disgraceful act of violence.

Welcome to a season of Justin Forsett toting the rock 15 times a game.

Twitter rumors swirling that Ray may be getting released. If true i can't blame them. I hope we get some sort of cap help by the league. I already don't like the video and position it puts the organization and us fans in but any job or corporation after seeing a video like this would terminate it's employee.

i brought that element to the threads from the beginning and was crucified until the ravens did their campaign. I even posted a video of the employee in McDonalds that had to hit some women that jumped over the counter.

assault is assault and i'm not a misogynist. after seeing the video Rice was wrong!!! I just hope everyone would take the same stance it he was getting into with a male family member.

I was a domestic violence probation officer in FL for 2 years. A similar program would have been offered to him there. My guess is that most states have a similar program.

You're right.

And they all start with abstention from alcohol and drugs.

And while making amends to those you have wronged is part of the program, dwelling on actions you can't take back is counterproductive for everyone concerned.

I may have a different perspective, because I have walked in Janay's shoes. Anyone with questions about Al Anon, please feel free to PM me.

For today, peace out. Fish are bitin"

No they are here to entertain us. That's what the business is built on, entertaining. If moral issues interfere with our entertainment then something needs to happen.

At what cost? Have some self-respect. Character is more important than winning.

If it wasn't for character, a physical sport like football would be like barbaric cage match.

I hope you are not an employer.

How is this conversation even about "what the league needs to do" or "how Goodell got it wrong" or "how the Ravens need to cut him"? Rice should man up and take himself away from the game and understand how to handle himself like a man. Take a season, deal with it, donate a year's salary to a violence against women organization and then come back. Every women who attends an NFL game should boycott every Ravens game that he plays in until something better than "2 games and a deferred judgement" if he completes some lame diversion program.

I don't care what anybody says, there is never, ever a reason to hit a women, especially when you're the size of an NFL player. Almost as disgusting was was his "shoulders shrugged" attitude once it did happen, as if it was no big deal that he just KO'd his girlfriend. Guaranteed that dirtbag would have just walked away and gone to grab another drink if there hadn't been people around wondering why there was an unconscious women laying on the floor.

Be a man Ray. Do the right thing. Don't be forced to do it. Never thought that I'd say to take a page from Michael Vick's playbook, but the man stood up and took it like a man, did his time and came out the other side. Second chances are only for those that deserve them. Right now, you don't deserve to be outside of a prison cell.

I can't see that happening, but I would like to see them add more to the suspension. I think that saves the Ravens image mostly, and certainly capwise. From the article someone posted with some media sources saying the Ravens had not seen the video, but now that they have, it is in line with what Ray himself had described to them.

Winning games is the main objective of a front office and team but it is far from the only thing considered when fielding/maintaining a team.

A front office's job also involves protecting the team's image which also affects business.

I'm speculating that either the team/nfl really didn't see this video which is hard to believe or that they attempted to cover it up to protect their image as much as possible and get back to status quo as the many articles on this site would suggest.

He sure did look good, not used enough IMO. 3rd and 1 and we dont run? He looks Rice-esque. He looked decisive and made good cuts.
