Merged: Ray Rice Released and Suspended

2,774 posts in this topic

the video only showed ray rice being aggressive long after anything she made have done. So what she may have did is irrelevant even if it was really bad in this scenario cause it wasn't a reaction. he had time to take other actions be it calling the police if she went cray.

The assumption was she was beating on him and spitting on him in a confined space being the elevator....and he reacted.

Yeah, about assuming...

This is why the Ravens course of action after the incident was so horrible. Elsewhere in the country it was believed to be a serious altercation where a man beat a woman. But a lot of Ravens Nation ate up the constructed(by the organization) narrative that Rice was just as much to blame as his wife. That assumption was the reason why any mention of him deserving more time suspended was met with derision(in Baltimore and on Ravens sites) and people tried to turn the entire thing into a "male self defense" argument. People were so quick to eat up the phony redemption story as well.

Yeah there is video evidence but when did everyone here become a saint? We KNEW he was guility and he admitted that. We knew he hit her and knocked her out and he admitted that. The video makes you angry and that's understandable but nothing has changed.

Ive committed crimes , I've done bad things. If there was video of the things I've done they wouldn't be pretty either. This video should have never made it to the public because the public isn't mature enough to handle it , obviously.

No, that's a complete lie. Very few even admitted the possibility that he was guilty of anything other than self defense. He didn't really take responsibility the first time around, he needed a second take for that.

Y'all are doing exactly what they want you too. Get outraged and panic while TMZ is counting their funds. Anger isn't going to get anyone anywhere.

People should be outraged, and the Ravens need to take a stance on this. The video was as bad as we could have imagined, and was kept out of the public until now. It is going to take people being outraged to get action, and action does need to be taken here. This was not a defend able action, this was reprehensible, and 2 games is not enough. If the NFL can't do anything else because they have already ruled, than the Ravens need to step up to the plate and man up to this, as they owe it to the fans who supported them all these years.

I'm totally disgusted by the New Jersey court system. Why does this thug get a plea bargain?

I was a domestic violence probation officer in FL for 2 years. A similar program would have been offered to him there. My guess is that most states have a similar program.

The league saw this tape, and even worse the team had seen this tape. You have to be drinking some serious purple kool aid to believe otherwise at this point.

SMH at the NFL.

Individual players come and go. Rice gave us so many on the field moments, but for business or personal reasons you always know you might have to turn your back on an individual player someday. Never thought I'd question being a fan of the team itself, but this situation makes you pause a bit. I'd expect this shady stuff from Goodell, but not from Ozzie and Steve. Tough day to be a Ravens fan.

I really don't want to believe that Harbaugh, Ozzie, Bisciotti all saw this video and didn't cut him.  It would make it hard to root for this team.

You're both correct. It was a slap, but very hard as it caught her as she rushed at him, and her head struck that railing with significant force. It could have killed her.

And I see her coming at him with a closed-fist punch to the face. After slapping him walking into the elevator.

I have to wonder if I'm watching the same video as those who are saying she didn't instigate it.

But Ray has admitted that what he did is inexcusable. He has also said he's willing to take whatever punishment is handed down without appealing or complaining. Let's see him stand by those words - 2 games is ridiculous.

I agree, the Ravens need to respond. Benching him and additional 4 games would be in line w/ the League's new policy.

The benefit of the doubt has now been erased and I don't know what to say because I am shocked. Public opinion was bad before but I don't know how the Ravens recover from this. I guess we will see, but I am sure glad I don't work in their public relations office today, because I do not have a clue.......well actually I do.......but it would involve a big cap hit.

In this country, rapists & murderers with violent criminal histories have been known to get plea bargains.

If the discretionary program & counseling actually works, then it'll be what's best for Ray, Janay and their kids, rather than just throwing him in jail.

looked like he spit on her and then she tapped him to get into the elevator. she responded like a parent getting an out of line childs attention.

i thought rice was apologizing for self defense and caving into impunity for women..... and I was in support of rice and against the media and  people that absoluted the situation. But she didn't do anything.

His suspension should have been much longer in the first place. No ones opinion should have changed on ray rice after watching this video. What happened in the video is what he said happened, Exactly told the NFL that happened. What.. did people think she slipped? No. They should have came down on him harder the first place but I dont see how people can change their opinion after watching it.

I don't have a problem with the Courts, its not that unusual. The guy doesn't have some big arrest record. People get probation all the time for pretty bad stuff. Its hard to justify the league and team trying to sweep it all under the rug now though. I'll probably still be a Ravens fan. There's 52 other guys and most of the coaching staff that (hopefully) still deserve support.

Seeing Rice hit her doesn't change anything for me either. We knew what he did. I believe in second chances, and if Rice does it again, then yeah he's gone. An organization should stand by a player whom has done so much for this team.

Look at Aldon Smith, always getting into trouble and should be cut. This is Rice's first incident.

As a man with a daughter, a wife, a mother, a sister, and a lifelong understanding that men do not hit women, I hope the Ravens do something here.  Something like benching Ray for this season seems like a small enough attempt at making a statement here.  If he behaves himself, maybe let him play again next year.  If it were to cost us another season out of the playoffs, it would be worth it to save a little bit of the organization's dignity.  So what if his wife spoke on his behalf?  Plenty of abused women do exactly that all the time because they can't see any alternative.

She only responded or retaliated with the slap after what looks like Ray spit in her face.

I really hope the NFL did not see this video. I want to believe they didn't, I really do. But I just don't know. It seems like Goodell was doing pre-release damage control by saying he blew this one and enacting a very public league policy recently.

He leaned in and did something both times before she hit him ( and she wasn't hitting with much force at first)

It's sad that he's so anti bullying that he would go and do something like this

Question: If the FO doesn't do anything else about this, would this make you stop being a fan of the Ravens?

If the FO doesn't do anything I'm not sure there will be a team called the Ravens to still be a fan of.

We had articles and numerous post about how our Ravens were disrespected by most all the taking heads for stats. That is nothing folks, prepare for the Category 5 storm that is headed our way!

Isn't that what I said?  I said I don't care what she did or said, she did not deserve to be cold-cocked in the face. ;)

No, it doesn't work that way. If you  decide to physically attack someone and harm them, that is enough to defend yourself. I hate how people think a woman can get away with anything but it's the man who should be reserved?

No, but I will not hold this team with as high regard as I have, and will be seriously disappointed in all involved. I love too much about our football team to stop being a fan, but I won't be as proud to wear their gear. Them doing nothing about this will be a slap in the face to every Ravens fan and hanging us out to dry to the rampant accusations. We deserve better as fans.
