Merged: Ray Rice Released and Suspended

2,774 posts in this topic

So, now we wait to see how the Ravens and/or the league responds if/when they do.

This season is shaping up to be another train wreck.

Yes it is . It's a terrible distraction . If we lose Thursday night , forget about any playoff chances . We may be 0-3 to start the season

I think he will be released by the end of the week. Forsett showed he is more then capable.

Man I hope so. Then I hope the league acts in collusion and no one picks him up. My dream is that he nevers plays another down of NFL football, that he never announces any football games, that he is forever shunned by the NFL and its fans. It's what Ray Rice deserves.

I think Goodell might double jeopardy the punishment and put it on the NFLPA to appeal.

Then NFLPA has to make a decision of doing due diligence for Rice....or due diligence for the league by caving into public pressure.

Or tell the Ravens that it would be in our best judgement to properly suspend him this time, now that the video is out.

Rice would be a post-June 1 cut, which would create $4 million in cap space in 2014. The problem is, Rice would count $9.5 million in dead money next year.

Edit - Unless because the season has started its viewed differently. Not sure there.

Let me say this before I clear up how much video editing can really do to someone. After that video, yes I believe he should be cut. Forsett played well enough to where we can cut Rice without much of an issue. Now to educate you all on who think a video being edited doesn't matter.

Imagine getting into a fight with someone on tape. He hit you first, you strike him back in self defense and it leads to a bigger fight leading to a lawsuit. Now if you were suing for assault because he hit you first, someone can use any editing program(Adobe Premier Elements, Avid Editing, Final Cut Pro or any video editing program) cut out the part where he hit you first and only release the video showing you hitting him first. Then him reacting, but because the video held out the part where he hit you first, that will come across as you hitting him first and him hitting back in self-defense. So then when you try to take him to court and that doctored footage is used, your lawsuit goes out the window and he wins because of an altered video.

Again, I feel we should cut Rice, not defending him. I just wanted to educate you guys on how much edited footage can be bad and why the original video is important.

Don't bother. This issue is too emotionally charged for anyone to try and inject some objectivity or perspective.

And the disclaimer that "you're not defending Rice" makes little difference. For what it's worth, I agree with you that context always matters and only the original video can provide that. Of course, for all we know, what was released is the original video, more or less (I noticed a disparity where the video starts and ends as a progressive scan but the middle, where the altercation is shown, was interlaced which ruins the clarity there, but that doesn't prove that content was removed, though interlacing could be used to conceal frame edits)

Best thing for the Ravens brand is for them to place him as in-active for the rest of the year. Clearly they should not wait for the league to hand down additional punishment. I like Ray Rice the football player but as a man..he's not. Hitting a woman is unacceptable.

Can't release him. It kills our cap. he will be disciplined further by the NFL and Team. He may not play a snap for us this year even after the suspension. He will be cut at the end of the season designated as a June 1st cut for minimum cap damage. If he does manage to get a snap in it won't happen until after our bye week IMO.

I so wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but wow....... he really did knock her out cold. I don't care what she did, or said, she did NOT deserve that. Very, very bad Ray Rice. i am not sure how I feel about this.   I am sad for both of them. It could be the end for him, career down the :toilet::tombstone:

He should be released or suspended most of the season. There is no way this should be tolerated or acceptable. The NFL should do what it takes to make sure his punishment is viewed as fair. He hit....no, he knocked out a woman for goodness sake. He smirked and didn't even check to see if she was okay. She could have died by hitting her head on the rail and breaking her neck. He needs a harsher punishment, point blank.

Rice's career is far from over. Some other team will pick him up after this blows over. Mike Vick is still in the league and he served hard time.

the video only showed ray rice being aggressive long after anything she made have done. So what she may have did is irrelevant even if it was really bad in this scenario cause it wasn't a reaction. he had time to take other actions be it calling the police if she went cray.

The assumption was that she punched him repeatedly and spat on him in a confined space being the elevator....and he reacted. And that being the case it felt like an over-reaction and giving impunity for a woman to beat on a man. The new information makes the past look like an under-reaction.

I  think what is most upsetting here is the fact that Ray Rice was at the top of the list when you think of players that are good people off the field. This is something that will tarnish his image forever and there is nothing that anyone can do to change it. I still can't believe he decided to do such a disgusting thing when so many kids look up to him. I was such a huge supporter of him because he stood for greatness beyond football and now he is an icon of domestic abuse. Whatever argument you try to make to defend him, nothing will ever diminish that one act. I am at the point where I don't even want to see him in this great organization, but I know a cut isn't possible. I hope he doesn't suit up for this entire season.

After my husband and I watched the video I think the team needs to reevaluate the character of this man. As far as people saying she spit in his face well spit is spit yet disrespectful and humiliating you can bounce back from. What made me sick was her head hitting the arm rail the only thing I thought was that could have possibly been fatal. It has to be me or has society lost their minds DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS SERIOUS. Is FOOTBALL that serious that this type of behavior is acceptable. Oh I get it men are the SUPERIOR and we as women should take a licking and keep on ticking. Women support this league and this team so Ravens your next move should be your best move at this point since the kitchen is very hot and the pot is boiling.

You're right. On top of the punishment Rice recieved, he should now also go to AA or some form of alcohol abuse class.

My guess is that's already happening.

Abstention from alcohol and drugs is ALWAYS a condition of those diversion programs, sometimes along with substance abuse counselling, for which AA counts.

Go to any AA meeting, and there are those there at the end getting their papers signed, because attendance is required to stay out of jail.

But TMZ can't talk about that, because they take anonymity very seriously.

The problem is having video evidence. You can always explain away something if someone wasn't there to see it. If there was a video of VIck executing dogs or fighting them and mistreating them. He would not have been back in this league. Video brings the truth to light so to speak. This is hard to come back from. Unless he becomes a spokesperson for domestic violence and does a lot of speaking out on it promoting against doing it. That's the only way I think he can ever get back close to how he was viewed before this incident.

I haven't liked Ray Rice since he started wasting so much time mouthing off to others players on a regular basis, and was getting penalized for it. A little trash talk is okay, but you could clearly see how angerly animated he was. Then there was that spitting incident, which again shows his character.

Yeah there is video evidence but when did everyone here become a saint? We KNEW he was guility and he admitted that. We knew he hit her and knocked her out and he admitted that. The video makes you angry and that's understandable but nothing has changed.

Ive committed crimes , I've done bad things. If there was video of the things I've done they wouldn't be pretty either. This video should have never made it to the public because the public isn't mature enough to handle it , obviously.

Y'all are doing exactly what they want you too. Get outraged and panic while TMZ is counting their funds. Anger isn't going to get anyone anywhere.

Are we supposed to apologize for not making a judgment until we knew for a fact what happened, and persecute him on vague allegations?

I can see and respect your stance. It's the people that say "it's okay, it happens, she forgave him" people that I'm whining about.

I felt you you said it in the absolute as that has been the theme since forever.... even if she was attacking him in the elevator and he reacted.

The video changed by mind because she apologized, was charged with assault, and insiders said she was the aggressor.

I'd cut him.  After that video...jeez.  I'm all for giving people the benefit of the doubt but that is ridiculous.  She never struck him.  Swatted at him like a you would a fly maybe.  He hit her once and when she approached he rocked her.  This is inexcusable.  Cut him.

Read this article:

Its damning. The league saw this tape, and even worse the team had seen this tape. You have to be drinking some serious purple kool aid to believe otherwise at this point.

Individual players come and go. Rice gave us so many on the field moments, but for business or personal reasons you always know you might have to turn your back on an individual player someday. Never thought I'd question being a fan of the team itself, but this situation makes you pause a bit. I'd expect this shady stuff from Goodell, but not from Ozzie and Steve. Tough day to be a Ravens fan.

I like when people do not like domestic violence. I do not understand the point of your posts on this topic.

I was looking for self-defense and reacting to a crazy woman. hence i thought it was an over-reaction to a degree.

he is now the aggressor....this video is a 180! Now it's an under-reaction.

this is shocking to me because i didn't take the view of a woman having impunity to do the things she was accused. Now it's one-sided and looks like a cover-up.
