The Sad Fact of Our Society

10 posts in this topic

The truly sad fact of our society is nobody would have cared if there wasn't a video. Look at the alleged incident with T-Sizzle and his wife. Didn't sound too good, but no video and no charges, so who cares? Greg Hardy? Shortly after Rice, convicted (not just charged, convicted) of domestic assault in which he threw his former girlfriend onto a pile of guns and threaten to kill her. Not just hit her, He said he was going to kill her. He isn't even talked about beside the day it was announced and the day he was announced guilty. He even played Week 1! (though, he will receive a probable 6 game suspension soon). Josh Brent drunk drove and got his teammate killed and after serving his time, got reinstated on the Cowboys (serving a 10 game suspension). Leonard Little drunk drove and killed a pedestrian. He got an 8 game suspension, but then went on to play a 10 year career after that. We all know about Donte Stallworth (though in that incident, it sounds like the fatally would have occurred even if he was sober).

In short;

Why is that the video is all that matters to everyone and why is punching  your girlfriend worse than manslaughter? Why does rice deserve never to play again and yet other can do the same, or worse and be reinstated without skipping a beat?

This is meant to be a open ended discussion. If you disagree, please tell me how wrong and stupid I am. this is no means defending Rice. He really messed up and he needed a year long suspension. But society hasn't seemed to care about others players wrong and many say ray should never play again. We should care about all alleged or convicted case of domestic abuse and treat them equally, not just hype one up because TMZ went straight tabloid mana on it.

The justice system specifies the conditions of rehabilitation, the plaintiff fulfills those conditions, after which they have paid their debt to society, and hopefully become a productive citizen.

The NFL and the Ravens organization imposed a penalty, and then with NO CAUSE imposed a greater penalty, and effectively terminated the mans career, again with NO CAUSE. There was not one bit of evidence that supported an increase in punishment.

According to Ozzie Newsome the tape reflected the events as Ray Rice indicated.  The fans were told the organization was standing behind Ray Rice, yet now after a video comes out all of our forgiveness was a sham, a joke, a lie?

Did those of us who, 'realized people make mistakes', suddenly chage our mind based on public opinion, and social pressure?

Wanna read a good commentary on the NFL's handling of Ray Rice?

Rice is the latest "symptom" of the issues in our society.  He's not the worst offender - just the most visible right now.  The NFL seems to be pandering these days.  Tabloids know that celebrity-chasing voyeurs can;t resist the ugliness of human nature.

Visuals are a POWERFUL medium. It's that simple. They make things "real" and you have to face what you've just seen.

Absolutely!  A fews years back, when there was no social media, internet, iPhones and Androids or tablets w/cameras etc., we would have never seen the domestic violence between Ray and Janay.  But now; "Big Brother" is always watching!  And, if a picture is worth a thousands words, well, imagine how many words video footage is worth?  The eye in the sky...never lies!!

The video matters because many assumed the situation was overblown or not as bad as it could have been. Many assumed Janay started it. Many assumed Rice acted in self defense. Simply put, many thought it was a relatively minor dispute.

The video showed just how bad it actually was.

Sadly, at age 55, the moral decay of America as a whole is heartbreaking. There are so many good people out there, yet in this video, techno, age they are over shadowed by the bad, the sick, well you all see it. There are no ratings in good deeds the value of human decency has been so diminished it's a wonder anyone even tries. As posted earlier, social media plays a huge role in this and it's sad to know how much good this could do for us all if only. Sigh!
