[News] Ravens Awarded Defensive Tackle Christo Bilukidi Off Waivers

66 posts in this topic

Wait, couldn't we have signed him without cutting anyone since Rice isn't with us anymore?

No - Rice wasn't currently counted on the teams 53 man roster

Cutting Rice means that Forsett, who may well have been released after Thursday's game, will still have a job.

Oh right, thanks for clarifying that.

Who? Does anyone know what Ngata's plans for the future are? He can't play anymore. His contract is killing us.

My guess would be that he plans to play for the Ravens next year, under his current contract. The question will be, what are the team's plans for Ngata in the future.

I guess we are not allowed to comment on the Ray Rice release. Oookay.

There is a news article on the termination of Ray's contract, as well as a forum thread with thousands of comments. You may post comments related to the topic there.

For the longest time the comments sections of every story was disabled.

I am still hoping we fix that glaring hole at CB. Webb can't be relied on due to ongoing injury issues and we are one good hit on Jimmy Smith from playing a safety at corner. There are corners out there who are better than Brown and our converted safeties. After cutting Rice, Aaron Wilson is reporting we are almost 7mil under the cap. We have to do something or it is beginning to look like we are in rebuilding year part deux. It is just unusual as a Ravens fan for our front office to ignore such an obvious issue. I can't imagine another team just saying who needs cornerbacks, that's why we have so many safeties. That makes no sense but by default that is exactly what we are doing.

Why so much panic about our secondary??? We gave up 1 TD pass, to a team that was very much in sync offensively in the first half....

So, we cut a RB (Ray)...we have another (Pierce) who's soft with injury issues, and apparently in Harb's doghouse, and cut another RB (Toussaint) to sign a D-lineman? Alrightythen

Come Thursday night, I suppose Juszczyk will get some carries, along with Forsett and Taliaferro. I hope Harbaugh has sense to let Pierce out the dog house. If Forsett maintains his ability to run against Pittsburgh as he did against Cinncy, that will keep one lump out of my throat.

For a second there I thought you were talking about Webb.

I realize we were short on DLs, but I hate to see Toussaint be the one to go to make room for the new DT. I sure do hope he clears waivers again and we bring him back to the PS. With RR gone now, I sure would like to know that we have access to more than 3 running backs. I especially feel this way because I remain skeptical of Pierce's ability to get the job done and be effective. Forsett certainly looked far better than Pierce, but he's kind of small so we can't know how well he'll stand up to a bunch of carries and the pounding that comes with them. I really would have liked the opportunity to see what Toussaint could do if given the chance. I would have liked to see Pierce deactivated for Thursday and Toussaint, Forsett, and Taliaferro be given a few games to see where the dust settled. I think we pretty much know what we've got with Pierce. We may never know what Toussaint can be. He really ran Hard in the preseason. I think he could be better than Pierce. Anyway, good luck to our new DT. Hope he's got something to give.

No offense to Pierce, but in light of this Ray Rice PR firing, we need to start developing Lorenzo Taliaferro NOW, not later. We need to start giving him meaningful carries and playing time. The kid led the entire NFL in rushing in the preseason. He seriously showed flashes of "Jamal Lewis", as far as what I saw. I'm not saying he'll be Jamal. But I am saying he runs with a lot more power and fire than Pierce does. Forsett did a good job Sunday, and he should be used as a change of pace back, absolutely. But he is a not an every down back, he is not your bell-cow. You want your lead RB? It's Taliaferro. That kid should be made the future, since Rice is now (sadly) gone. If we're serious about being a successful running offense again, they'd make that happen, starting Thursday night.

I said this so many times about Bernard Pierce. He is not that good... It finally showed this week. I don't ever want to hear from @rmcjacket about Bernard Pierce being better player than Bobby Rainey. Bernard Pierce got in the game and fumbled. Bobby Rainey got into the game last season and won games against the Falcons and the Dolphins for Tampa Bay. Ray Rice could never play football again and Pierce would not have a better career than him. He is okay as a backup, but not starter material. The ravens should do something the Ravens haven't done in their entire franchise. They should have a speed back which Bobby Rainey was in comparison to Ray Rice. Let Fitzgerald play because he has the vision and is faster than Rainey and Rice. Taliaferro should be worked into the game plan as well! Its a good combo a speed back and a power runner. Ray Rice leaned more towards power than speed because he was hawked down by defenders on long runs even when he got pass the entire secondary. It would take huge amounts of pressure off the offense throwing 70 yards when we can also run 70 yards if needed, and prolong drives, tire out opposing defenses, and run clock to end games with a power back! Go Ravens!

I was hoping we would keep CB Derek Cox, but certainly, is is good to get a DL that we need. I haven't heard what became of Derek since he was cut a few days ago? We really need to get a good CB, though.

@Edballhawkreed -- you do realize Rainey also got into a game this weekend, and also fumbled and looked generally pretty bad, right? Let's not pretend we let some superstar slip through our fingers.

Well since ray rice didnt use a roster spot till his suspension (before Monday) came they still would of had to drop Toussaint. It is unfortunate that we had to drop him. BUT i can see him passing waivers and getting to the PS. Most teams if not all have their set core of RB's and seem sold on them. Barring one drops like a fly in the next day or so. Nice to hopefully get this deal done with Christo, and have a better rotation for depth and push towards the QB. I see Forsett Starting Thursday with Pierce backing up. I never really thought Pierce was all that great. While he is a good backup just not starter material. In previous years he was hesitant, and just was poor decision making at hitting holes or gaps. His skills, speed, and everything is there just he puts to much thought into it. Pretty much not second nature or muscle memory, and just brain farts when it is time to make that .2 second decision. That is why everyone thought the 1 cut zone blocking scheme was good. No need to think, if the inside is blocked break it outside and vice versa. But to say he sucked it up is not all wrong. He was facing a very very stout D-Line that has a great rotation of players, and under-rated pass rushing. Bengals are not the Bungals in the regular season they are a major player in the AFC North division now. It is great to see Marvin Lewis have great success, just not at the expense of us.

I have DTV and saw the Bucs game! I didn't see Rainey look that bad and Lenny Moore fumbled occasionally and is in the Hall of Fame!

Meanwhile, Bernard Pierce has still got to prove that he's not soft or brittle,... injury prone!
