Potential Trades at the Wide Receiver position?

41 posts in this topic

This isn't an overreaction to the Season Opener.  This is something I've been looking at for a while.  Our guys struggle to get open.  We don't have a guy who can go up and make a contested catch.  Marlon Brown disappeared.  Steve Smith has potential but he is much older and we can only rely on him for at most another season.  Torrey disappears a lot at times and struggle with anything but the 9 route.  Obviously he is getting better but there is room for improvement.  Luckily Kamar Aiken showed up.  Campanaro will not be ready for another year or two and all he is doing is taking Steve Smith's place when that happens.  What I am saying is we should be in for a trade.  I wouldn't mind packaging Jacoby and a draft pick for another player.  People hate giving up picks, but whoever we trade for will probably be worth it.

I'm looking at Dwayne Bowe.  Chiefs returner just got injured and while it is only for a short time, I can't see them not being interested in a guy like Jacoby.  He did fairly well on returns yesterday, but Asa Jackson and Deonte Thompson are more than suited to take his place.

Dwayne Bowe's value is lower than it has ever been.  He is turning 30 soon and has struggled in the Chiefs new offense.  This is all theoretical and I know a lot of you guys hate trades.  He is due only 1.5 million in 2015 and I could see the chiefs looking to somehow split his current 8.5 mil this season with another team.  We just gained a bit of salary cap for this season after Rice was cut.

Obviously this is far reaching but I'd be interested in seeing what you guys think or if you have other players you think we could trade for?

I don't care what we do but I hope we trade no picks. That's for sure. There's no one player who will put us over the edge unless we're trading for Byrd, Moore, McCourty or a FS of or near their calibre. I would actually really like to get Moore but I doubt the Broncos would do it. I think our picks next year could be too valuable to trade because it's very possible we have a boom or bust season here. We'll either make the playoffs or do worse than last year. Unless it's a FS I just don't see value in making the trade.

Makes no sense what you said.  Don't want to trade a pick but also no ONE player puts us over the edge.  You only get one player per pick.

Draft picks involve taking chances.  Trading one for a player who may have fallen off is about an equal chance but you know more about what you are getting.  Picks aren't sacred.  Why give up a chance to get a good player when you might not get anything at all from them.  A 4th round pick alone may be enough for Bowe.  I don't think any receiver we'd get for a 4th round pick would be better than him.

I just don't understand your logic.

Bowe is at the top of the league in drops. Andy Reid said his index finger is basically not useable after being broken so many times. He also just got paid, so we can't afford it.

The reason people love draft picks is Ozzie usually does pretty well with them and we can get a young player which we can develop without paying them a ton of money right now. A trade for a player would be great, but they have to be better than the guys we already have. And we need to be able to afford him. Bowe fits neither of those criteria. So, no. Not interested.

Fair enough. I probably didn't explain myself too well but outside of a FS, I don't see any one player putting us over the edge this season. I'd rather play it out with what we have, good or bad, and not risk future prospects when we could realistically draft high and make better use of that pick. That's all. I don't think Dwayne Bowe will solve our issues on offense. I don't see him being the difference between us making the playoffs or not.

Steve smith had no trouble gaining seperation all day. His drops were extremely uncharacteristic and I would not expect thst again the rest of the year. As for Bowe, there is a reason he is available. He's been an underperforming disappointment.

I wound not be surprised if we sign Larry Fitzgerald next year and draft mostly defense yet again.

I would replace Jacoby with Aiken as #3. And I think Campanaro should be used for kick returns.

what makes you think campanaro is a better returner then deonte?? lol

I could definitely live with passing on WR if we signed Fitzgerald even at his current age.

Ok I will rephrase that anyone other then Jacoby. Didnt Camp return some in preseason? Jacoby looks really slow and made bad decisions.

I think we have to target OLB, RB, DB in that order next year.

I don't think we really need to add another receiver at all. I think we should just have patience with our receivers. We know Jones and  T Smith have problems with catching the ball but if name not Jones just about all of our receivers need some time to grow in this new offensive system even a veteran like Smith Sr.

I strongly disagree RB needs to be a high pick necessarily. But that's getting off topic.

We won't be able to afford Fitzy now

The cap is going up don't forget. He will not sign a Steve smith contract but he's not going to get what he's getting from Arizona. There is always a way to afford the right player. I say he still has several top notch years left.

If Pierce some how starts to look like starting franchise running back then we may not need to draft a running back high

His contract is not bad at all.
