[News] Ravens Terminate Ray Rice's Contract

367 posts in this topic

The video is about what I expected happened ... I don't see why the Ravens, or the NFL, felt the need to give him a harsher penalty - I mean, what did they think happened? Rice was 100% wrong, but assuming the ACTION does not have long-term consequences (death, long term physical or emotional damage ... which this incident doesn't) , I don't feel that a 5 second mistake by someone should receive such a harsh penalty. That is my opinion. The only argument toward a harsh penalty is that the backlash caused by doing the right thing (not having a severe penalty) will cause so much negative publicity / negative talk by everyone that it is worth such a penalty ... What I'm saying is that I would argue very strongly that the incident by itself has been WAY overblown, but taking as a whole (how much of a message this could have toward domestic violence) then you can easily argue a harsh penalty such as this is necessary ... It's a shame that Rice's life has to played with like that, but I can see that reasoning.

Tossaint was just cut by the Ravens to make room for defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi

Where did you see that because they still have him listed on the roster online?

Toussaint is on the active roster according to the roster .... and Ray rice is no longer showing on the roster.... so i will assume we have 4 RB plus Juice

SF should cut Ray McDonald and Carolina should cut Greg Hardy. personally i thought what greg hardy did was 100x worse then what Ray did. punching a woman is something, but dont beat her then stick a gun in her mouth.

Wow way to just make things up dude. What was the point of that? And Greg will be found not guilty by a jury on the charge of hitting that girl, who is known for making accusations like this in Charlotte

I think we'll resign Toussaint to the PS then. Can't see us gambling with just 3 RBs, like we did last year (actually just 2), when Pierce was recently hurt (and is in the doghouse)

It was hard enough to believe that he knocked her out, however, I was really shocked on how he treated her (someone who was loved?)once she was on the ground. He treated her like a piece of garbage ! I cannot believe it.... I seen the video at 200pm and I am still bothered / upset.

Not really in the mood to talk Ravens. The ENTIRE story is sad- from ALL around.

Is this headline true? Ravens awarded Christo Bilukidi from waivers, cut Fitzgerald Toussaint. If so, could someone with a better football mind explain that one to me on why this is a good move.

Here is the link where I got the news - http://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2014/9/8/6123933/ravens-awarded-christo-bilukidi-from-waivers-cut-fitzgerald-toussaint

O M G, Well. he made his bed, hope this will be a lesson learned by all yet it's all hard to believe but it's a rule that needs to be followed,There's half the league that has an abuse problem, personal and family so does that means he won't be allowed to play football in the NFL anymore

Forsett seemed to do just fine yesterday, Pierce is okay and Taliaferro seems cool so we should be fine in the RB department. Then there's Juice, but he needs to be utilized more often and Thursday is a good opportunity for that.

Next man up! Let's focus on getting a win against Pittsburgh...

With what's happening, I think the Ravens winning on Thursday are slim and none. Too much media distracting the players.

Will be interesting to see how the salary cap shakes out next season. We save some decent money this season from this move, but a $9.5M dead money cap hit next season is coming. Could potentially cost us a player or two that we would have or would like to have kept.

Here is the link to the Ravens web site, they just posted this news moments after I found out about it from another Ravens fan on here. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Ravens-Awarded-Defensive-Tackle-Christo-Bilukidi-Off-Waivers/dbe62fa8-cb0f-4858-8f94-d3a27868d96d

Anybody see the Kieth Olbeman show..

Calling for the Ravens front office to step down or be fired for not handling the Rice punishment when it first came out. Even saying the fans should boycott the games until they do..

Thoughts?..

I'm going to completely honest about ray rice, He has been my favorite NFL player every

since he been in the league. He was always a dedicated football player and a great person off

the field with charities and helping fans. But today, when I seen the video I was shocked and

disappointed at the same time because Ray should not had hit his fiance. I love my girlfriend

and we might argue, but I will never in my life hit her. My mom and dad raised me a better

than that even though I am 21 years old, I am still growing up everyday becoming a man. But

one thing for sure, I will be praying for Ray and his fiance for their relationship to get better.

Ray, I hope you learn your lesson and continue to live, succeed, and most importantly give

life to GOD he will heal and help you.

Can someone explain to me why this video should change ANYTHING. Is there ANYTHING in this video that we don't already know, that the team didn't already know, or that the league didn't already know.

Can those who have spread this video all over the internet verify its authenticity and swear that it has not been tampered with, and that the two people in the video are really Ray Rice and his wife. I have seen the video several times and it is such poor quality that you have to fill in the blanks. You have to be told repeatedly what it is you are SUPPOSED to see.  I certainly don't think it is evidence that is admissible in court. There is no chain of evidence here.

If the league and the team already knew what happened on the elevator (Anyone who didn't know what happened on the elevator has to be pretty stupid), the verdict is pretty clear: the team and the league can't take the heat for the decisions they have already made. They need to man up and stand behind their man.

I am also suspicious of the timing of the release of this video. When the Baltimore Ravens are in a league where they are always treated like the king's jerk (this is a legitimate term) son, I was very suspicious when Ray Rice and the Ravens got off with just a two game suspension. Now I know why. The league knew about the video and expected this video to come out at a time when it would do the most damage to the Ravens. It did.

I am also disappointed in Ray Lewis' failure to stand up for his "friend" Ray Rice. I am now so sure Ray would have had much of a career in the NFL if the Ravens had dumped him the same way they dumped Ray Rice.  Or, is domestic violence more of a crime today than murder?  And, don't give me the Ray Lewis wasn't convicted of anything argument. Ray Rice has not been convicted of anything in a court of law either.

I am suspicious of all politically correct lynch mobs and this looks and smells and sounds like one to me. There has got to be someone else out there who is even more disappointed in the Ravens than they are in Ray Rice.

The question for me is I can still support the Ravens? They certainly have disappointed me today. They've just ruined a player's career (No Hall of Fame for Ray Rice; No Ravens Ring of Honor, either) after he had given them his heart and soul and body for six tough years. If they were going to do this to Ray, they should have done it months and months ago, not three days before their next home game and four days before Ray was scheduled to come off suspension.

Disappointed Ravens fan

Not to defend his action, but statistically most domestic violence is bi-lateral with one party agitating the other until there is violence. The dynamics are somewhat predictable with substance use causing most to ratchet to the level where there is serious injury such as in this case (she was knocked out). The lessons learned are always too late and the aftermath is very bad. I think the sheer amount of this stuff the courts have to deal with is what causes them to handle cases with speed and rarely examine the individual evidence in a particular case. There are even penalties set forth that are standardized for such behavior. Thus the non-jail sentence. Not saying any of this is right. Just pointing out how this occurs even amongst the best and brightest without prior episode. This will tend to embarrass Rice for quite some time with societal ridicule accentuating that effect. There has always been domestic violence but how it's handled has changed as society is less tolerant today.
