[News] Ravens Terminate Ray Rice's Contract

367 posts in this topic

So the league with their billions of dollars never got to see the video, yet it somehow leaks to TMZ first. Not sure I buy that. I believe Rog saw it, gave out the suspension, felt the heat, sent out a retraction, saw that the video leaked to the public, then absolutely panicked.

Can the ravens be donw ith all the distractions now. Sorry Ray Rice how everything went down. You made a huge mistake and now you your wife and kid will have to pay the price. i doubt i will ever see him on an nfl roster again so hopefully he got a good degree from rutgers to fall back on or saved enough money from his 7 years or him and his fam is screwed.

I just don't get why everyone is blowing this out of proportion. She was knocked unconscious in the original video, like obviously he punched her how do you think she got knocked out by him hugging her? What we all saw today is what I figured happened when the original report came out in the first place. This video just honestly confirms what we already knew happened.

For me, before this video, I assumed based on everything that came out that she was physically assaulting him and he lost his cool and punched her.  After that video, I am ashamed to have ever defended him in any capacity.  There is no grey area now, this is ugly, an totally beyond any type of defense.

Rice's salary-cap number lowers from $8.75 million this season to $4.75 million. Next season, Rice would still be on the Ravens' cap for $9.5 million of dead money.

That sucks!

Also, how does tmz get a security video from a casino?

TMZ has a knack for getting the things they want.  Their business is breaking news like this and they seem to be very good at it.

I haven't watched the video, and don't plan to. All he can do is what he's been doing, go to counseling, be a good husband, be a good father. It's a shame, really. The mob rules these days.

Might not be that cut and dry. Typically suspended players do not count against the salary cap and Rice has been suspended indefinitely.  Maybe the Ravens will catch a break and keep some of that money.

Why he misrepresented himself by lying, only he knows. That in itself is why they had to fire him, I assume they found language in his contract letting them off free of charge. This is why you don't lie in todays world to many cameras and people who want to break a big story, sorry for your future Ray, but you shouldn't have lied about the truth after the fact. Am I correct that he spit on her to kick it all off, thats what it appears to my point of view but still curious if anyone else caught that. As for her she is just as bad for helping him lie about it, you need to let the truth out if you expect any real sympathy. As for the rest of the team I hope you can do what the rest of us can't and just ignore the noise and get ready for the Steelers. Good luck to all parties in their future. Remember it's a second chance league, in time you can prove that you are ready to represent in a positive way to help bring awareness in the future.

This was Very Bad for Raven Nation, we can't tolerate actions like that that on our team. I hope our organization was being proactive instead of reactive as it pertains to this video. And to make matters worse we have to face the Squealer fans on Thursday. I cant even get excited at the bar about this game because I know how this story plays out. Steeler fans will def. make me mad. #IthinkIwillwatchAtHome

There better be a "WIN" in our column come Thursday, because Steeler fans gloating excessively in addition to today will look horrendous.

LaMichael James might not be a bad pick up if he clears waivers....

After seeing what Forsett had to over you don't think they just stand pat on RBs?  I don't see them cutting Pierce or Talifero, do you think they'd hold 4 RBs?

You're never going to know how to react to a situation until you're in it.

I think that Commissioner Goodell and other officials had the video all along and due to the fact the Rodger Goodell believes that he made a mistake on Rice's punishment and distributed hefty punishments to the 2 recent NFL stars, Josh Gordon and Wes Welker... Goodell probably did not like the fact that he was being so heavily scrutinized by media and fans about the severity of their punishment and Ray Rice's. In my opinion, he wanted to fix his mistake by allowing this tape to be released.

I don't support domestic violence what so ever, but if the Ravens, Ray Rice and his wife are trying to improve their relationship and move past what occurred in that elevator, than we should just let them handle that. The video is saddening, but I pray that Ray Rice really learned from his mistake and he and his wife can be at peace.

I know the Ravens really wanted to stand by Rice's side, but from a business standpoint I understand why they did it. The media sucks, and unfortunately as you all know, the NFL is not really kind towards the Ravens organization and sometimes it's just so easy to see. But outside of football, I pray Rice and Janae.

Who are we to judge? Have we not made mistakes before? They just weren't caught on camera. But I support Janae and Ray and I hope that we all raise awareness about Domestic Violence, it happens all the time...even around the league of other NFL players.

The cover up is always worse than the crime. And here the crime is rather provocative. Which just makes the cover up that much worse. Ray should've just come clean and admitted what really happened. He might've been forgiven eventually even though his punishment would've been more severe (appropriately so). But at least he'd still have a job, a place on this team. But he lied, he gambled that the tape would never surface, gambled and he lost.

It doesn't matter what she may say, Ray. It doesn't matter what she may do. It's always better to just walk away...to always be the bigger, better person, Ray and just walk away. You just can't fix stupid though, so thanks for the memories...I guess.

Hope everything works out for the best for Ray, Janay, and their daughter.

I'm sorry, I refuse to support or defend Ray Rice after that video! I don't care if it was his first and only offense. Unexcuseable!

I am a woman, and I do not support the Ravens or the league in this over reaction. Rice was wrong, but he was being responsible in his handling of the situation. I'm so disappointed in the Ravens.

He lied to his teamates and coaches as to what had really transpired. He lost their trust and faith. He wouldn't have been welcome by the other players. And in any case, the league went ahead and suspended him indefinitely, essentially a lifetime ban, so what the Ravens did became a moot point.

It really saddens me to say this...but I lost a lot of respect for the Ravens organization today!! Not because they cut Ray....but because they were not proactive about this whole mess!! I do not and can not believe that today was the first time they saw this video!! If they would have taken a harsher intolerant stance before the video came out, the video would not have been a big deal!! But instead all (or at least me) Ravens fans sit here stunned and embarrassed by the obvious PR move due to the outcry from across the country!! You, the decision makers, have made us fans look like fools for supporting your poor decision making!!
