[News] Ravens Terminate Ray Rice's Contract

367 posts in this topic

it doesn't affect the cap, because if the league banned him for at least a year, a team is not on the hook for his contract, and they could go after any bonus money....

If the Pats didn't recoup cap space on Hernandez, we aren't getting any back.  His salary comes off this season (which will give us some cap space), but his prorated bonus will leave us with dead money this year as well, and $9M+ next year.

For the love of God, PLEASE stomp the Steelers on Thursday.

This season will really test this teams toughness. Everyone will be against us.

I might get neg for this....

Bring Adrian Peterson to Baltimore! He wants out of Minnesota, and now we can afford him!

It's nice to dream but we'd have to literally sell house to get him, whether you want to do that or not, Ozzy wouldn't do that. This team is literally built from the ground up, how many players on the roster were big trades or high value FA signing...almost no one, i guess an argument can be made for Monroe but thats about it, Canty and Smith Sr. were FA additions but not particularly high value because of their age. What we'd have to give up to get Adrian Peterson just isn't worth it

This will change the franchise, for this year, and in the future. Harbaugh's future was just decided today. Another 8 win season and the a rebuild? This changes everything.

I just gained a whole lot more respect for this organization. Get rid of trash! I used to be an Eagles fan until they picked up Vick (dog killer), so I made the switch and now I am very proud of my team to know when to get rid of trash! Good riddance Rice we don't need you.

Man this thing has kind of a "Watergate" feel to it. Now somebody enlighten me---are we to believe that NOBOBY in either the Ravens Executive team or the NFL brass had access to these video contents back when the incident took place and was being investigated? And why, all of the sudden are these video contents being displayed NOW?

On another board someone posted that Peter King (who is an NFL beat correspondent---you see him on the NBC Sunday night telecasts) claims that the NFL DID have access to this video during the investigation. Something sure as hell smells rotten here!!

Don't we usually play our best football in that situation though? Guess we'll find out Thursday.

This was Very Bad for Raven Nation, we can't tolerate actions like that that on our team. I hope our organization was being proactive instead of reactive as it pertains to this video. And to make matters worse we have to face the Squealer fans on Thursday. I cant even get excited at the bar about this game because I know how this story plays out. Steeler fans will def. make me mad. #IthinkIwillwatchAtHome

Ravens FO and many of the players were told by RR that he defended himself, because she attacked him, and that's what they went on, when they saw the vid, is when the FO took immediate actions, and a lot of the players are no longer supporting him...Basically he lied thinking this would never get out....

Couldn't they just ask Ray's lawyer to see it?  He would have access to any evidence that was used against Ray.

The Ravens and the NFL could have required that it be shown to them so that they could have made a decision about Ray's intial suspension.  Seems like they would want to see all evidence before making any decisions about his suspension.

Shocker - Ray Rice released.

The incident is a civil offense and then the NFL gets involved without a policy regarding domestic violence. Neither the NFL nor the Ravens handled this properly. Ray was given a 2 game suspension and from everything I have heard, he has been doing things to "make it better". Then the video comes out months later. No one saw it until this morning. Right! That warm feeling on my leg is not rain. Now Ray is basically banned from football, kicked off the team, and this may derail any chance for him and his wife to move forward. It is sad, sad for the Rice's, sad that Roger Godell is incompetent, sad that the Ravens release Ray to save face after backing him. Michael Vick is still playing. The NFL has to get its head into the sunshine and run the business as a business and have rules in place concerning conduct on and off the field in order to play in the NFL. Not come up with arbitrary actions months after something goes down. I do not ever condone a man hitting a woman or other domestic violence. I am just thoroughly disgusted at how this was handled.

I'd love to go back through my comments and link to the post where I got minus a zillion for saying they should cut him back in June, but hey, I don't hold a grudge.

RCMJacket, if you see this, I know you remember.  All that talk about dead money, looks like we were never escaping it.

Ohhh, I'm sure I up voted you, but the negs were just too overwhelming.

I wonder just what kind of impact this incident would have had on his performance rushing the ball this year, anyway. It's too bad that it ever happened, but to end his career is a tough punishment for anyone in any line of work. I wish him the best to get past this.

This is like watching Harvey Dent become Two-face in "Dark Knight." Ray Rice you have an anti-bullying campaign!!! These things have got to hit your mind before making these decisions. You have endorsement deals and was one of the faces of the NFL. You have got to make smarter decisions than this... I hope you can continue your career somewhere else...

I just don't get why everyone is blowing this out of proportion. She was knocked unconscious in the original video, like obviously he punched her how do you think she got knocked out by him hugging her? What we all saw today is what I figured happened when the original report came out in the first place. This video just honestly confirms what we already knew happened.

Ravens did not handle this situation well....why back him and support him then fire him for doing what they was backing him for they already knew what happened on that elevator....Also how can the nfl suspend him for 2 games then indefinitely once the video comes out.... if I was rice I would sue the Ravens and the nfl..go ahead hit me with the negs

I disagree.  Our criminal law system works under the theory that you are innocent until proven guilty, and to some extent we, as Americans, tend to extent that presumption to the court of public opinion.  So, many of us felt like there was a chance that she had actually been attacking him violently in the elevator and he really did hit her to defend himself.  That may have been an unrealistic interpretation, but there was no clear evidence to the contrary and that is what presumptions are all about.

Now we have clear evidence to the contrary.  He didn't need to hit her, and he got what he deserved.  It is perfectly rational to change your mind about Ray Rice after seeing this video.

Big Ben raped two girls, but is still balling out for the Steelers like nothing happened. The difference? VIDEO. People tend to not care nearly as much unless they see it for themselves. Ray loses his cool one time, and his career is ruined.
