[News] Ravens Terminate Ray Rice's Contract

They had no choice in the matter and I'm glad they finally got rid of him. The Ravens are much better off without him. Hopefully the team can put this behind them and focus on the season.

SF should cut Ray McDonald and Carolina should cut Greg Hardy. personally i thought what greg hardy did was 100x worse then what Ray did. punching a woman is something, but dont beat her then stick a gun in her mouth.

If he lied to Bisciotti about what happened I get it. But if what he told them behind closed doors matches what the video shows, it was a gutless move, because they only did it because they thought they would get "bad press". Hopefully the press conference will shed some light.

Boy oh boy. As soon as i saw that video this morning, i knew this would be the end result. However, i must bring this up. Remember last season when d'qwell jackson accused ray rice of spitting in his face during the browns game? A lot of people here, including myself thought that was a flat out lie and felt that ray rice was way too upstanding of a person to do something like that. We saw the video and it did look like ray spit in d'qwell's face but we still stood in staunch support of ray. The tmz video actually shows rice spitting in his wife's face outside of the elevator which prompted her to obviously punch him (well more like tap him) away in defense. Ray's character has been exposed and now i can say that there was a feint but distinct pattern. I felt sick to my stomach after watching the vid of rice punching his wife out. However, when he spit in her face, i immediately thought of the browns game... did anyone else think about that?

The ravens salary cap is about to be in shambles next year. Hopefully he was just "voided" instead of outright waived/terminated because if not, the ravens will have his salary on the cap. The last thing i have to say is this: Domestic violence is not acceptable. If anyone here has been abused by their spouse or knows someone that has been, you should leave or tell the person to leave that situation. The way janay was hit and the way she hit the elevator bar... she could have died. Think about that. Ray used to be my favorite offensive raven. Now, i'll have feint memories of his great play but cannot respect the man.

WOW! Just unbelievable & mind blowing. After seeing the video released today as a Ravens fan, I can no longer defend Ray Rice. I just wish he would have handled this situation better than he did, he had everything to lose & still went with the decision he made. NEVER take what you have for granted people. Hopefully he's learned from his situation moving forward & I wish the best of luck to him, this is a bittersweet moment. So sad....

It was the right move. Now give Toussaint a chance. Let Pierce be an inactive this week and activate Toussaint. That would be my 3 RBs for this Thursday. We gotta see what he can do. We've had 3 years of Pierce and I'm not impressed at all. Forsett, Toussaint, and Taliaferro. Let's see how that looks for a while.

Lesson. One drunk night, one bad split-second decision can really, really screw things up for you.

It's sad. Good luck to Ray. I hope he holds his life together and doesn't fall apart after this, but I'm glad the Ravens have moved on.

Big time Fins fan....I posted this on NFL blog earlier, If you drink and drive , you in trouble, take PED's, you in trouble, dogfight, hell go to prison. If you have a bad day and want to beat the hell out of your wife or girlfriend. no problem, After all she is your property , no ? Cmon ,Goodell, get gone already you are not only an embarrassment to the league, but you have an extremely flawed moral compass. God forbid that never happens to any of the women in your life, if it does, maybe they wont be allowed to go to work for two days. Sickening! Just wanted to applaud the Ravens for their contract termination. The NFL has of course responded late and just given an indefinite suspension. WTG Ravens! Ty for standing up for women!

This is too much to take before my first coffee. After the video release, Ray cannot be defended nor he should be.

Question is - can the team move on from this crap before Thursday and win? I mean, our season is already hanging in balance.

it doesn't affect the cap, because if the league banned him for at least a year, a team is not on the hook for his contract, and they could go after any bonus money....

The Ravens did the right thing. No amount of touchdowns can offset abuse in any way. I applaud the organization on an excellent moral decision.

Well it looks like Pierce is going to get more than a second chance, lets see what Pierce,LT, Forsett, and Toussaint can do sharing the load for the rest of the season. No reason to talk more about the incident, we all knew that there was possibility that it would come to this if it turned out is was much more than just an accident. The video was released and now whats done is done, lets move forward and no tread on the past

absolutely- to me the video shows what I expected. He hit her. I thought Godell was privy to all the video evidence. The mountain of bad PR this would create is too much I suppose.

Ever since the original news of the incident came out I hadn't been able to bring myself to wear the Rice shirt I own, even when the Ravens came out in support of him. I just lost too much respect for him, personally. Now that shirt will be donated to Goodwill.

Best of luck to Pierce, Taliaferro and Forsett in carrying the load for this season!

I wonder what we're going to do with all that open cap space now.... Wizard of Oz? What's the plan?

I'd love to go back through my comments and link to the post where I got minus a zillion for saying they should cut him back in June, but hey, I don't hold a grudge.

RCMJacket, if you see this, I know you remember.  All that talk about dead money, looks like we were never escaping it.
