Why isn't anyone else talking about the turf?

Am I really the only one here who's noticed this has been an issue since preseason?

Because apparently Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun has noticed too:

Slippery footing

Several offensive players fell to the ground during the game while cutting. It’s unclear if it was the artificial turf or their cleats.

I don’t know what was up with the field,” Harbaugh said. “Between that and the drops, really threw off our timing in the passing game in the first half.”

Added Steve Smith: “They were falling, too.”

I knew it wasn't my imagination that our receivers kept sliding their feet often when they went into or came out of their breaks. And yes, this would explain why Joe kept throwing the ball out in front of them, because the WRs were late getting to the ball because they weren't coming out of their cuts as quickly as Joe was accustomed.

Harbaugh as much as admitted this in the bolded parts of his statement.

But if this issue was evident back in the preseason, then how can Harbaugh claim that he doesn't "know what was up with the field"???

This may very well be the primary reason why we lost the game!!

No one is talking about it because there is so much else to talk about right now.

The drops were bad, that's true, but it was so much more than just that today.

Don't be that guy! Don't be the one who blames the loss on the playing conditions...

However, this turf could explain why Steve Smith Sr. had a terrible time getting traction and slipping everywhere while running routes. Hmm...

Yeah because it didn't seem to slow down the Bengals.

Blaming the turf for a loss in which we turned it over twice and and had an insane amount of drops?

If the turf had the receivers fighting to keep their footing which disrupted their concentration?

there has been a lot of slips since pre season. But right now isn't the time to talk about that, Bengals made their catches and ran their routes on the same field.

Sorry the playing conditions were the same for both teams and the sad part is we were at home! If anyone should have had a problem with the field it should have been Cinci!!

Hey maybe you're right but in that case we should've ran the ball more not less. The Bengals had Green who's an elite receiver in his own right so I'm not surprised a poor field could be to blame and it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't affect the Bengals as much since they ran the ball me than we did. I'm sure everyone ran more than we did in week one though. The turf isn't the reason we lost, though. Probably a factor but not a reason.

Torrey slipped on a couple of routes but that's the only thing I saw. Maybe there were more but slippery gloves were more of an issue for me than the turf.

All true, but Aaron Wlson & John Harbaugh wouldn't have brought up the subject if it hadn't been an issue.

Or just looking for excuses

Yeah because it didn't seem to slow down the Bengals.

Bengals played on the same field

Thank you both!  I had to plus 1 both of you cause now we're looking to blame the field condition for how piss poorly the Ravens played yesterday?  C'mon now!

The pre-game on Thursday briefly brought up the trouble the Ravens have had with their turf, something to do with the rubber and moisture(?), and how the Ravens had made some adjustments to the turf, which apparently worked as I didn't see anyone struggling to keep their footing in that game. Looks like this has finally been resolved, though why it wasn't addressed before week 1, where it may have cost us a crucial division game, is still a question that nobody is asking. The little things do matter sometimes, especially when they're not actually that little.

They mentioned it on TV with regard to week one.   They said there was too much rubber down...  apparently some of it was removed.

I've never liked the Field Turf over the real stuff.  It seems like injuries increased when they first put that new stuff down.  I understand it's hard to grow, but it's dangerous.

I would agree until you get into situations like they have in Landover... Lambeau Field, and like they had in Philly...  Far more dangerous and far more unsure as to the footing.
