So much for optimism...

Guys, we lost by one score to a very good team after playing one of the worst first halves in franchise history. You can't find any positives? Come on, negative nancies. The sky is not falling so stop acting like it.

Without our best corner also.

Stay out. Going in there is probably why I'm so frustrated with this fan base.

2nd half showed how good this team can be, I liked how short comeback routes were implemented into the offense.  I think Rice will flourish in this system as well.  Kudos to the defense for all those stops cus it could've gotten ugly really quick

It's the first real game in an entirely new offensive system, and we actually looked pretty decent in the second half. I'm not too worried about them yet.

I am worried about the d though. Pass rush wasn't great and the secondary was horrible. Chykie Brown should not be playing in this league.

It's hard for me to read these forums anymore. Especially after a loss. The sky is not falling. We are not going to go 0-16.

I saw several bright spots. First of all, I thought the line played well. You can hate on them for the blitzes late, but they brought extra guys, they can't block every single person. Joe should have saw it coming off the edge and brought someone in motion to pick it up.

Forsett was a definite bright spot .I'm not sure how fast he is, but it seems like he has fast acceleration, gets off the ball quick, and shoots through the gaps. The run blocking seemed pretty good tonight, against a stout front from the Bengals.

I hope Flacco sticks to the slants, and the shorter routes. They were working for us. Run the ball, throw short balls, and we're bound to break through the roof with a deep ball.

And if Brown would have tipped that ball, he would be deemed a saint tonight.

I'll take giving up 15 points over giving up 35. McPhee was playing hard, when he came in for Suggs, he almost got a sack. A lot to improve on, but it's only one game. Take out Pittsburgh this week and hopefully Matt Ryan lights the Bengals up next week.

I'm just gonna blame the slow start on the first game jitters. If we do that against Pittsburgh and lose again AT home, then I might go into hibernation for the rest of the season.

at what point did i say anything about Rice being done or not being one of the best RBs? my response was simply related to how their athletic ability compares and you are making it seem like a much bigger gap than it is. You posted the stats, go look at them yourself. Me and the other guy never once said Rice wasn't a superior athlete, we are just saying its not as big of a gap as you keep emphasizing. Rice isn't "much more athletic" than Forsett, superior yes, but not much more.

Agree to disagree.

More optimism: Kyle Winnipeg can't be a worse QB than Joe if only we had the spine to bench him. We can't pay our $120 million guy to put up performances like that when we can get better results from someone on a rookie contract who looked great in preseason. What's the harm in trying?

I really need to impose a 48-hour rule on myself where I vanish from these boards for 48 hours after every loss.

I might do that too. Losing really brings out the kind of people who hate specific players/coaches for no good reason, and then they use the bad game to justify their hatred.

And you know I just love to stir the pot with those kind of fellas ;) So yeah, might be taking a hiatus after the next loss.

Well we at least hope that is a positive. It could be the biggest negative if we don't straighten out things that should have already been straightened out.

Cmon, let me have something to be cheerful about lol.

Flacco was sending bengals to the trainers left and right. What other qb do you know gives a guy a concussion with his abs?

Ha!

The fact we were still in the game with how bad we played has gotta count for something

Game was over at half time. Only thing undecided was the final score.

Because this is the "optimism" thread, I can say I'm positive of that.

Bring on the squealers.

Yeah, I've never seen Rice run the way Forsett did today. Last time he was anything close to that was maybe 2009 or 2011. Rice dances too much and he's anything but a one-cut back.

We shall see. I was expecting Pierce to look great today since I seen so many people saying he was such a perfect  fit for Gary Kubiak zone blocking scheme.

Considering we had the lead at one point in the 4th, I would have to disagree...

Pierce didn't have many carries before the fumble, and he didn't get a chance after the fumble. I was kinda disappointed with the little he did, but we'll see what happens.

If we win the next 2 games we'll be fine. but if we're 1-2 or 0-3 this'll be the game that got away.

Either way at least we have the physical ability to compete, unlike last year,

and one play properly defended we win.

Two defenders properly blocked we get the tie or the win. With momentum as it was I felt good about the possibility of an OT win.

Against what everyone seems to be forgetting is a very good team.

Didn't you get the memo? The Bengals are obviously overrated and Dalton obviously sucks. Forget about the stats and the playoff appearances. They just get lucky. They suck.

The bengals had a very good offensive game plan. Better than any they have had against us with dalton under center. They had a lot of short passes and tons of different screen designs. I thought going inn Ngata/Williams vs bodine would be a huge advantage for us but they game planned around that for the most part. Dalton rarely held the ball long and didn't force throws like he has always done in the past.

Suggs said the same thing, "can't spot a good team 15 points and expect to win." Game was over at half time only the final score had not been determined.

Yes, I'm frustrated like all Raven fans are tonight.

Yes so the fact that we got the lead and could have tied it late in the 4th should be a good thing considering they are a good team and we got thoroughly outplayed in the first half.

Good thing there won't be a next loss;)

Damn skippy!

I know the Ravens will lose some games, but they're a talented team with a ton of potential to make the playoffs and make some noise if they get hot

There is no way to prove it, but I truly believe that Joe Flacco could have had that subpar performance and still could have won if the pass catchers had bothered to catch passes.

That makes me hopeful because I don't think Joe is going to be like that all season. He'll learn from his mistakes, and I'm confident that a player like Steve Smith has too much pride to let this happen again and again. Pitta is better than that drop, we all know it. And Pierce won't likely get another chance to start out with a slow pace. Jacoby Jones and Torrey Smith might be another matter because this might arguably be a chronic issue for them, but as I said in the beginning they can overcome some mistakes.
