The Practice Squad

166 posts in this topic

Who would you like to see on the Ravens 10 man practice squad.

John Simon, Fitz Touissaint, Sammy Seamster, Connor Shaw (from what I saw of his play during the preseason, he looked better than Wenning), Tremain Jacobs, Ryan Jensen, Nathan Overbay, Levi Brown, AJ Pataiali'i and Derrick Hopkins.

John Simon, Yawin Smallwood, Fitzgerald Toussaint, Tramain Jacobs, AJ Pataiali'I would be my guys. Probably throw in Jensen and Wenning as well. Not sure on the other three.

It's already been said that we're looking to sign Phillip Supernaw, Jamie Meder, AJ Pataiali'i, and Tramain Jacobs to the practice squad.  I'd imagine Keith Wenning, Ryan Jensen, and Sammy Seamster are guys that we'd like to keep around as well.

I wouldnt mind seeing them look at other QBs that are cut. Right now I haven't looked at other cuts to see whats out there. I really hope they bring back Supernaw. He knows the system and with past injury problems to both Pitta and Daniels it seems like a neccessity.

Everyone cut clears waivers at 12 today, by the way...

Aaron Wilson@RavensInsider 1m

Ravens to sign rookie defensive tackle A.J. Pataiali'i to practice squad and several other players this afternoon, according to sources

Not questioning you but the practice squad rules. How can they clear waivers at 12pm today when final cuts had to be in at 4pm yesterday? What happened to 24 hrs?

Rules for final cutdown for whatever reason.  12pm is the time they clear.

No surprises with the first 2 players.  They were reported as going to the practice squad if they cleared waivers.

Still surprised they gave up on Simon so quickly.  Unless they're throwing their eggs in re-signing McPhee and bringing Upshaw back in a few years, even though he's fat as hell each training camp.

No reports on Simon being claimed yet. Is there a deadline for teams to claim released players? I ask because there are already articles about how Michael Sam wasn't claimed.

It was noon today but there's an obvious delay in the information with how many names are going across the wire.

12:00 PM Eastern time was the waiver-period deadline for a(nother) team to claim a released player AND add him to their 53-man roster. Anyone unsigned, at this point, as long as he is practice squad-eligible, can be signed at any moment.

Thanks. Its doubtful Simon goes unclaimed but I hope he makes it to our practice squad. He remind me so much of Jarret Johnson early in his career. He just needs a bit more time to develop.

Sammy Seamster was claimed by the Dolphins.

That is ok, we will lose a few. I think we will end up signing either Franks or Cox back later if we can't work out a trade and they both have some game experience. There are also a few CB's released yesterday afternoon that I think we would be interested in if they were not resigned by there teams PS.

Yeah I'm not worried about Seamster at all.  Jacobs performed better and Olatoye is probably a similar player if we really wanted to keep Seamster around.

I'm just surprise a team went directly after Sammy Seamster instead of going after Tramain Jacobs. Seamster, after the initial "hype" he brought as an UDFA, didn't do much of anything. Jacobs, on the other had, showed potential to at least make a regular season roster in the future.

Well, at least the Ravens managed to keep Jacobs on their practice squad!

I agree. Sammy wasn't that good in games from what I saw.

Jensen is official? Great! Waiting on Simon now. If we bring him back then we really didn't lose anyone.
