Running Cut Thread (Ravens)

484 posts in this topic

While I think we should have stashed Wenning, perhaps he'll clear waivers. Nothing has been said about moving him to PS though which I think is a mistake.

Simon I think was a victim of early poor play and just too much depth. I thought he did really well in the final preseason game and that might get him an offer from another team.

Sad to see Touissant go but I guess we knew it was coming.

Nice to see us stash Butler. While I don't think he's ready quite yet I see a lot of potential there.

7 WRs. Interesting. Wonder if that will stand.

Apparently Ryan Jensen has been suffering from severe sleep apnea, and the symptoms played a role in his poor play and subsequent release. Feel bad for the guy and hope he can rebound.

Thats dangerous if left untreated that could cause major health concerns

I don't get all the love all of a sudden for Simon, did they not watch the first three preseason games?

There has to be some kind of trade in the works to keep that many WR's and only 4 corners. Thompson and Bynes for something?

Ive liked since college and was really hoping he would develop here so yeah i wasn't happy he was cut but i didn't realize so many other people would be so upset with him being released

Because he was a hard worker, a possible leader, and he had a lot of potential. I've loved Simon since we got him though. Always had high hopes.

What I found a little funny (and this could be a typo), on our depth chart it has Asa listed as #2 PR/KRS and Camp as #3. No DT.

I think that's a hint. Deonte's being traded! Ozzie gives us hints, right?

Look if we cut a WR the Browns would have picked them up they are desperate, and that would have given away our whole offense.

Also look how many CBs the Browns kept, all 12.

Got to read between the lines here

So, you think the Browns and Ravens are working on a trade?

I would think of the receivers the candidates are Aiken and Thompson, and of the LBs I'd say only Darryl Smith is truly safe - but I think definitely one of the safeties we have could go - six safeties is a lot.

Can't see someone trading for Aiken... Think Thompson is only one who would get traded unless someone offers something really good for brown

Daryl,Mosley,brown aren't going anywhere..

Bynes is only one I really see someone going after..

Aaron Wilson@RavensInsider 1m

Ravens are expected to re-sign Derek Cox as soon as Sunday, according to a source. Procedural move

I read that too and I don't understand what "procedural" move that is. The only thing I can think of is if they don't want to guarantee his salary since he is a vested veteran. But I thought that rule only worked when a player is not on the roster when the first game starts, not when it comes to making the original 53 man cut, am I wrong? If I am right here, what is the point of cutting him and bringing him back as early as a day later? Why not just cut who you're going to cut on Sunday today and leave Cox on the roster? Can someone truly enlighten me on this subject?

Doesn't he always? lol. My magic 8 ball says it could go either way.

No. why would we want to help the Browns before we play them.

If we trade it won't be in the division. We jus don't want one of our young receivers to get picked up by the Browns and come back to bite us or give away any info about our new offense.

And Browns don't want us to snag any of their CBs because they know we are hurting at DB

Yeah, sorta obvious, but your wording made it sound like you were implying that a Ravens (WR) and Browns (CB) trade was what you were thinking. I laughed a little inside when I read it.

Attempting to execute a trade.. Pretty much the topic of conversation throughout the last few pages

Gives us more time to potentially work out a trade with 1 of our 7 WRs or 1 of our 6 ILBs.  Instead of cutting them, we entered a handshake agreement with Cox that he'd be back once we figure out if we're able to trade some of this extra depth before cutting them for nothing.

I see, thanks. The question then is, what are we really going to get for our 6th/7th receiver or a special teams linebacker? I can't imagine it would be much, guess we'll know soon.

See if you can do a player swap if another team is in a similar situation.

4 players from 2013 draft already cut (Simon Jensen, mellette and Anthony), smh.

Along with 3 or 4 quality starters. 10 picks last year. All cant stay on the team.

4 others starting, 1 a high caliber backup, and a UDFA that's also a good backup.

I wonder what would of happend if Mellette didn't have the knee issue.  He was good in preseason last year and I had high hopes for him this year

Already? 2 years is usually enough to figure out who the keepers are. It's not like next year 4 more will be on the cutting block.

Or pick up a late round pick for Deonte or Bynes and resign Cox or Franks.

I wonder the same. To me he showed a lot more in his preseason chances than did Aiken. Also concerned that we have such little depth at OLB. Would be nice to pick up someone who can get after the QB if Suggs or Dumervil go down, God forbid.

Didn't say it was a bad draft... we just don't usually cut that many picks after a year

Anthony was cut at this time last year, Mellete in like June, and Simon and Jensen after one year. Not one of those lasted 2 years so idk what you're talking about. Besides I'm not saying we should have kept them, we just don't usually cut that many picks after a year.
