Running Cut Thread (Ravens)

Am I counting wrong or do we currently have 7 WRs and 3 TEs on the active roster?

You're counting correctly, but this is far from the "final" 53.

Yeah after I posted I read some people's posts speculating we may trade a receiver for secondary help, and that makes a lot more sense to me than just cutting a guy and then looking for other roster cuts to fill the secondary void.

I'm sad we had to let Overbay and  Toussaint go, but thats the NFL can't keep them all. I think we did the best job we could.

Keeping 7 wry is not uncommon especially with the offense will be running and potential injuries. Just wish we had this depth last season

Strange what a year does isn't it.

Yep it makes a lot of sense.  We cut a guy that doesn't have to go through waivers because he's a veteran, so we can remain in constant contact and I'm sure Cox is more than aware of what the plan is there.

That's a 50/50 split failure vs success. Not really very good.

It's not bad at all..

Jeremy Butler to IR is KoD for him; but he can try again next year.

Still 2 guys on the bubble for the next 2 months.

All-in-all a playoff caliber roster. Bring on the Bengals and Steelers.

Kind of surprise John Simon was cut. Thought with his work ethic etc. He might make it over McClellan.

I got most of it right but was surprised to see 7 wrs as well as Wenning Simon Franks and Cox I thought maybe 1 between Franks and Cox. as Orr making the active roster was a surprise to me with Smith Moseley Brown Bynes and Mcclellan all ahead I understand the need for special teams help but we could have gotten that with Simon Franks or Cox just my thoughts. Someone will claim Wenning no way he makes it through waivers

I guess cutting Franks and Cox will that mean Brooks may play some corner during the season. he did start showing some playmaking ability

Actually it's excellent - by the time the 6th round comes up, at least 160 players (5x32) have already been taken, and that's not counting any comp picks - so you're well outside the range of the "best players in the draft class".  And of the misses, two of them have had recurring injuries, one could be heading to the PS, and one was a 7th round comp, literally one of the last players to be taken, period.  You can't measure the worth of the first/second rounds against the 6th/7th and call them equivalent.  Since 2007, our absolute whiffs in the first 3 rounds have been maybe 3 players - Yamon Figurs, Tavares Gooden, Jah Reid.  Everyone else we've picked in that span has been at worst a decent contributor to this team in their time here.

So question is just which receiver/LB gets traded?

I would think of the receivers the candidates are Aiken and Thompson, and of the LBs I'd say only Darryl Smith is truly safe - but I think definitely one of the safeties we have could go - six safeties is a lot.

SEVEN WRs? What the ....?!I guess they didn't learn from last year. Risking Rainey and keeping all them Wrs and safties for what only to release them later. Now we have what SIX safties and FIVE ILBs? We cut John Simon for a guy that can play ST? I'm tired of all these ST needs you would think with all llamas these ST aces that we have we would be u know....good on ST.lol When was the last time any of us said wow our ST is all universe! What a joke. The is no reason we should have that many players at one position. Just a waste I tell u. N IMO out of all of them Thompson deserves to be here n have WR 4 duties this season; he earned it after everyone talking trash about him all offseason.

Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider · 1m

James Hurst and Zach Orr beat the odds to make the Ravens roster as undrafted free agents

So happy for my man Hurst! I liked him a lot. Glad to see him make the team.

2013 was a really disappointing draft class really the only pick that has been making good headlines is Brandon Williams.  A couple good things about Arthur and really all ive heard about Elam is that he hasn't been impressive.  And KLM unfortunately won't have a chance until next year

I'm responding to this late, so I don't know if this was addressed but...

a) Juice

b ) Wagner

c) Elam (regardless of how you think he's fared during preseason, the guy's been a starter)

First of all, John Simon isn't that special. He's got upside but he's not Thomas. Second of all, he's very limited. He had two or maybe three pass rush moves. He's just not that good. He's also a tweener. I am glad we cut him rather than try to ride it out on someone who just doesn't have the upside of others. He might ever make it through waivers. It's possible.

He wasn't that special.

There's no way we trade Arthur Brown or CJ Mosley.

I think Cox will be back. That's just me. Franks might also come back. I wouldn't count out either guy yet. We're going to move someone.

Surprised they cut Simon.

If by some miracle he does get thru waivers i see him coming back after what ever trades we have planned for WR and/or LB

It'd be a miracle if a special teams player who made bone headed mistakes on special teams and hasn't progressed any made it through waivers

Oh it doesn't even come close to being one of our worst by far. Early rounds we usually fare pretty well but come round 4 - not so much historically.

However, when not drafting need (which would shift it by a talent perspective) but by BPA, it's a 50/50 shot. Those are even odds. Not bad at all but not the to die for that was being expressed.

Apparently Ryan Jensen has been suffering from severe sleep apnea, and the symptoms played a role in his poor play and subsequent release. Feel bad for the guy and hope he can rebound.

Feel like Ravens were a bit soft on keeping 1more receiver than they should, but I'm guessing that decision will probably be made soon as rice come back from suspension.

I still think we should've cut bait with Jah Reid. Someone with potential should've been groomed.

Surprising but understandable was John Simon. His performance was 3preseason too late. Good luck Simon!
