Running Cut Thread (Ravens)

484 posts in this topic

I get what you are saying, but he was drafted before Suggs was extended and he was coming off a major injury. Personally, I'm not a big fan of always taking BPA because this type of issue comes up. However, if Simon had actually shown significant promise he wouldn't have been cut. Sometimes, players just don't pan out.

Understandable as well.  I know Simon didn't develop, and that's definitely why he's gone, but I still do think it was a questionable pick at the time.  It's a combination of both, and I really do believe this is a case where BPA was kind of a waste.

So Champ Bailey was released. I know he's old and everything, but that's interesting.

Very interesting tbh ... versatile veteran. Health is a concern but maybe he wants one more shot at a SB.

If he can play free safety then that would be great

Did we just cut John Simon? B10 defensive player of the year, last years 4th round draft pick, best defensive player last week? What the heck? Simon was probably the best ROLB on the team after Dumervil. Easily the most surprising cut so far.

36 is really old for a corner, at some point even all his experience can't help enough.

I think Simon was cut because of special teams or something. He was on fire last night, even though it was against 3rd string players.

Wow is right. Trade in the works?

Has to be.............or Franks or Cox would be on the 53.  An announcement has to be soon.

He hasn't done anything in the NFL and he's a limited player. Not athletic enough to drop in coverage. Roster spots are valuable, and he doesn't make the cut. Maybe a team with less depth will pick him up. Definitely a little surprising to give up on him after just 1 season though.

You'd think John Simon were a perennial pro-bowler based on the comments out here.

Its just a bummer we gave up on him so soon

I get it.  Wish he had fared better.  Perhaps a change of scenery will make a difference for him.

Most Raven fans know how unlikely it is for the Ravens to cut a 4th round draft pick after one year. John Simon is the type of player that John Harbaugh loves the most. That's why A lot of people are stunned.

I cant believe we kept Aiken and Thompsan

Yeah I can't believe we kept 7 WR's and held onto Zach Orr. I am still thinking a trade may be announced soon, especially with the reports that Franks and Cox have both been cut.

I'm praying Simon somehow clears waivers and we can get him back because I imagine he'd be straight onto the practice squad with half a chance!

Yeah, it seems likely that Thompson could be involved in a trade for a DB.

It doesn't sound like we could get something done by the deadline, and want some more time to see if anything can happen trade wise.  We probably released Cox and/or Franks with a handshake agreement that they'd be re-signed once things are sorted out.

Ravens are expected to re-sign Derek Cox as soon as Sunday, according to a source. Procedural move

highly doubt that. Jets will sign him, just watch

I know right. For somebody that was last on the depth chart and hadn't shown anything on special teams it was obvious. We had other pressing needs, no need to keep someone that wasn't going to start for us and wasn't all that versatile (could't play mlb nor was he that good on special teams).
