Simon is gone someone will pick him up.  I hope it comes back and bites us in the butt

Wow - I'm surprised, but that doesn't mean I hope we screwed up. I wish Simon well, but hope that the LBs we've retained instead prove we made the right decision.

John Simon had a good game against mostly back-up players. In every other game, he was either silent or played really poor. He made no improvement at all between his rookie year and his sophomore year. I thought he could get cut, ever mentioned it before, but I doubted it since he was a fourth round pick and we rarely give up on those. But, as we saw with Christian Thompson and now John Simon, if you're not improving and don't do anything really well you're gone.

Waste of a pick there. Too many of those lately.

It happens with every team every year and to be honest, I'd rather cut bait with him now than lose out on a better player elsewhere on the roster. It's better to admit you're wrong with some guys, give up, and push another guy up than to miss out on other potential. This only helps our UDFA recruitment as well. It shows we're willing to give roster spots to UDFA over drafted guys.

I think Orr is sticking around until we find out if we can trade anyone. If not, he should clear waivers with ease. Keep him on the practice squad for now.

@RavensInsider: The Ravens have cut rookie defensive tackle Jamie Meder, according to a source. He'll join the practice squad Sunday if he clears waivers

Oh without a doubt. Still a wasted pick though. This is when "BPA" comes back to bite.

Same with Deonte Thompson looked good against backups and hasen't done anything during the regular season

Something often forgotten is that Albert McClellan can play both OLB and ILB. We can also still trade one of them (probably Bynes) as injuries mount up. If a team like Denver or Dallas loses another LB, they might be desperate and we can move Bynes then if we choose.

That's true but the difference is that Thompson showed us that throughout the preseason. Simon looked poor for most of it until the last game.

And it took him awhile to show anything besides showing he can run fast.  This i think is deontes 3rd 4th season

Cutting Simon is unfortunate. He reminded me a lot of Jarret Johnson when he first arrived. It took JJ 4 years to really develop. Looks like Simon won't get that same opportunity here. I just hope he doesn't sign with the Steelers.

Yeah, what's that, 4 players from that draft that are already off the team after 1 year? We can't continue to do that.

I know they announced Campanaro is staying but no word yet on Butler, Aiken, or Thompson.............they must really be having a tough time deciding. Either that, or maybe the speculations of a trade may not be too far fetched.

That's 4 of last year's draft class gone already then.

Round 1: Matt Elam, Safety (Florida) Starter

Round 2: Arthur Brown, ILB (Kansas State) Key backup/future starter

Round 3: Brandon Williams, DT (Missouri Southern State) Starter

Round 4: John Simon, DE/OLB (Ohio State) First real surprise cut

Round 4: Kyle Juszczyk, FB (Harvard) Starter

Round 5: Ricky Wagner, OT (Wisconsin) Starter

Round 6: Kapron Lewis-Moore, DE (Notre Dame) Injured

Round 6: Ryan Jensen, C (Colorado State-Pueblo) Still practice squad eligible.

Round 7: Aaron Mellette, WR (Elon) Talented player. Chronic knee injury ended career.

Round 7: Marc Anthony, CB (California) 7th round corner. What do you expect?

I still count 5 starters out of that group already. Lewis-Moore may have been another if he didn't get injured again. If you browse the cuts of other teams you will see a lot of teams cutting much higher drafted player. The Texans and Bengals just cut recent 2nd round picks and thats just off the top of my head.

Someone mentioned it but we had 10 picks.  Statistically i think 4 is about fair.  Mellette also got injured, so that seems about right.  60% on the team and Marlon Brown from that class.

Not even including Marlon brown who had 8 TDs as a rookie.

2013 was a really disappointing draft class really the only pick that has been making good headlines is Brandon Williams.  A couple good things about Arthur and really all ive heard about Elam is that he hasn't been impressive.  And KLM unfortunately won't have a chance until next year

We had ten draft picks. we can't expect all of them to stick around. The mark of a good draft class in my opinion is getting two or three starters out of it. We have four starters and a significant role player. Good class
