Running Cut Thread (Ravens)

Trading away Thompson is just a stupid move. You're giving away our best pr/kr for a scrub.

#tiredofthescrubs

He's not our best KR/PR, that would be Jacoby if he's right. I'm not sure what was up with him, though someone said Jacoby might be taking it easy before the regular season to preserve himself and that Harbaugh might not have wanted to reveal their ST formations right before CIN. Either way, I am worried Jacoby might be a bit slower. Hopefully that's not the case.

Thompson is a good player, but I recall David Reed being eerily similar and then getting traded to the Colts. So, I'm not so sure he's safe.

Even last year Thompson looked great and better than David Reed, but then he got hurt. Reed got lucky with that TD anyways, and never looked as good or natural as Thompson. IMO Thompson is on another level and is up there with Jones. I want to see him at WR also.

Thompson was the returner until fumbling began happening

No Case Keenum in Baltimore. He was claimed by the Rams.

I didn't like the idea anyway. He didn't impress me that much and it's not like we're cutting Taylor.

Derek Cox was just cut.

He'll probably be re-signed Monday when his contract is no longer guaranteed for the year.  Insurance in case Webb couldn't go tomorrow, which looks to not be the case.

Wow that's still shocking considering we bought him back due to another team showing interest in him

This year's Billy Bajema.

You're not kidding!!! Lol!!!! Do we still have time to sign him, and cut him again before the Bengals? Lol!!!!

I'd say it was to ensure we don't have to guarantee his salary as others have said, wouldn't be surprised if he is back with the team by Tuesday. I'm guessing this means we go with a 52 man roster week 1 and just have one less decision to make on inactives tomorrow.

The reason they cut Derek Cox today is because they do not have to guarantee him a full seasons contract.  Under the labor laws of the NFL, if a player who has four or more years of experience is on your roster for the first game of the season, you have to pay him a full salary for the entire year, even if you cut him in the middle of the year.  However, if he is not on your roster for the first game (as is the case), you can sign him later and only pay him for the games that which he is on your roster.  Cox is a bubble player, and possibly this year's Billy Bajema, so cutting him today was easy.  If a team like the Titans decide to snag him up, the Ravens are okay with that.

Personally I feel sorry for the guy, but it's part of the business!

Not from what I see on Twitter.

@RavensInsider: Ravens make it official, announce Fitzgerald Toussaint promoted from practice squad to 53-man roster

@RavensInsider: Reasoning behind FitzToussaint promotion: he's played well, can help special teams, want depth with Ray Rice suspension, CBs getting healthy

Still find this move "odd" as we have to keep him on the roster for 3 weeks.

Can't waive him to re-sign Cox?

Once Ray comes back, we can keep Toussaint inactive on game day. It's kind of odd though with our CB depth though. I would have cut a WR instead of Cox, unless it is about not guaranteeing his salary.

It's definitely about salary, but I'd rather bite the bullet and guarantee the salary all year since it looks like Webb is out tomorrow.

Interesting moves! They still have to deal with the return of Rice, Will Hill, and Cody in the weeks ahead. There is also an open spot on the PS.

Yeah, so that leaves us with Jimmy, Asa, and Chykie. I guess we will be using Brooks or Levine as options at CB. That's kind of scary with the bengals WRs. At least they don't have Jones.

Even if Webb could play it was already mentioned by Aaron Wilson that  Webb still wasn't a 100 percent and base off that I would had kept Cox regardless but we shall see what happens tomorrow.

Well then...

Aditi Kinkhabwala @AKinkhabwala · 1h

AJ Green, Dalton fantasy owners: Barring a surprise, Lardarius Webb not playing tomorrow. Leaves the Ravens Jimmy Smith, Chykie Brown at CB

I really don't understand cutting Cox then...I don't doubt that Levine and Brooks can help at cornerback and that they both have potential there, but seeing as one is a rookie about to play his first game and the other as far as I know just starting playing the position this training camp does not really put me at ease, regardless of the opponent and how good/bad their passing game is.

I would  had been more afraid of their receivers if they had Marvin Jones or Andrew Hawkins.  Hawkins was traded  to The Browns and you already know jones is out which leaves them with Green, Sanu, and Tate as their top 3 wide outs. Sanu has talent but Tate hasn't  been known to be  much of a threat as a receiver.

Yes, Jones tore us up last year. It's a good thing he won't be playing. I don't think Chykie can cover Sanu, maybe Asa could, but he's never played a snap on d. It's a scary situation to open the season.

Makes absolutely no sense, just to not guarantee his salary ,already have 3 rbs on roster. Can't believe they would go into game with jimmy smith , asa, and chykie . considering jimmy is coming off injury
