Jamal Lewis Article..

5 posts in this topic

Drkraven posted an article that I found about Ray Lewis in the general discussions forum. I saw this article on Jamal Lewis and would like to get anybody's take on it and thoughts on his comments. No bashing/hecking or nothing is what I seek.. just honest constructive criticism and whether you all think he has a legitimate shot to "rejuvenate" his career and again, your take on his thoughts about his time with Baltimore. All the pundits out there seem to think he has a decent change to have a productive season behind our revamped OL and I'm not completely sold on that but that's because honestly, my only experience is with him running all over us.

So your take/thoughts please?

BEREA, Ohio - Jamal Lewis knows the drill.

During seven seasons with Baltimore (including one on injured reserve), the Ravens juggled nine different starting quarterbacks yet won a Super Bowl and made three other playoff appearances. While a dominating defense spurred such success, the 1,300 rushing yards Lewis averaged playing in a vertically-challenged offense shouldn't be undervalued.

Jamal had some really good years here, but he let us down big-time last year. He couldn't hit the holes and he blamed everything on something other than himself.

In your opinion what was the biggest reason for that? Do you think any chance of that was because he really wasn't over his injury? Washed-up? Past his prime? I ask cause I'm guessing the OL had productive RB numbers last year overall just not from him.

As I've said in the past, Jamal could have been on "Dancing with the Stars" last season. He had like a 3.4 YPC where as Anderson and Smith had a 4.6YPC behind the same line. Jamals weight has always been up and down. It is quite possible that he had not fully rehabbed his injury, it remains to be seen this year.

I watched Jamal play every single game of his career, starting from when he shared touches with Priest Holmes when the birds won the Superbowl. He was an above average running back for us in his tenure here, one of the greatest single season performances by a running back ever, but then due to off the field **** and other teams stacking 9 men in the box with no pass attack, he rapidly declined. I think that in 2005 if McNair had been here, with a viable passing offense and the cocaine thing behind Jamal, he would have had a 1400-1500 yard season and stayed around longer in Baltimore. However, by the 2006-2007 season he lost his quick feet and could no longer overpower people. In Cleveland expect him to rush for around 1000 yards, more if Winslow, Edwards, and the rest of the offensive gang can get it together.
