Now there are reports that Webby's out? What the heck is wrong with his back?

Then why would we cut Derek Cox if thats true?

according to aaron wilson his back is fine, it's a matter of conditioning since he didn't play all preseason.

Yeah, I said it a while back.......Webb may turn out to be one of our biggest busts. shame

Next man up!

I wouldn't call him a bust and we could cut him as early as next year and still save money. We'd absorb a $7m dead money hit but we would save $5m. If we waited until June 1st or designated him a June 1st cut then we could potentially save even more. With a post June 1st cut for Webb, we would have $4M in dead money for 2015 and then $4M of dead money for 2016, which would save us $8M in both 2015 & 2016, which is huge. So it's not like we're married to the guy. We could cut bait if we wanted quite easily.

I'll reserve further comment until we see if he can get back. :-)

Thank you for this!

You have to have the right pieces elsewhere to run this and have a unit that works really well as the whole, but this can work

It's kinda hard even still. You can't predict injuries. What would you rather we do? Not extend our best CB when we did because we're afraid of him getting hurt? That's crazy. You can't fear injuries with contracts otherwise you'll never extend guys. Same principle applies to Ngata. Who would've expected him to essentially get hurt every year and mail it in at times? Besides his contract doesn't bind the team for reasons I already explained. It was a fine deal.

Yeah, that sounds like a fun month. My business partners have season tickets, so trying to decide which games I want to go to. With a 1 week old and 2 other kids under 4, I think the wife will decide for me, ha.

On topic - I think we win and we win BIG! And, to please you and I (and all the lovers, haters and tweeners) Flacco has a fantastic game.

That is definitely understandable!  Lol!  My kids are both grown and gone and out on their own.  But, if I lived here in the area I'd definitely acquire season tickets for sure.  But, I'm cool with driving up periodically for a few select games.  Go Ravens!

Ravens 24, Bengals 10

Haloti has missed 5 games in 8 years and looks to be coming into 2014 in fine shape. He had 5 solid years at bargain $ prior to getting paid. Could anything close to that be said about Webb?

And yeah I agree we had to extend Webb, not saying it was the wrong thing to do. Just seems to be shaking out to be bad luck.

He's also played well below what we've expected and paid him to play when he has played. He may not have missed games but there are times where he isn't the dominant player he once was. Maybe he'll rebound this year, but you can't deny he has mailed it in at times. Webb has just had his unforeseeable injuries. You can't predict another ACL and definitely couldn't predict back problems. These back problems are new.

I definitely agree on the bad luck end. If that's what you're saying then I definitely agree. We've had really bad luck with this contract but we for some strange reason restructured him.

The thing with Webb is not that he has had a lot of injuries, just very significant ones.

Three injuries is not a lot in the NFL but ACL tears are season ending no matter when they happen.

A lot after 2011 and a $50 mil. extension in 2012($20 mil. guaranteed).

Methinks we're just defining bust differently. I'm not using the term talking about the draft, but what he was expected to be for us for a few years. We invested heavily.

Seems his bones may be connected with peanut butter.

Maybe we are labeling it differently but I'm not going to call a player a bust who was only hurt by injuries. He can't control that and Ozzie can't control that..

That's why I said it could be a bad contract if he doesn't play contract out

So I'm just in the progress of watching the opener from 2012. Get a look at our OL that night:

Michael Oher - Ramon Harewood - Matt Birk - Marshal Yanda - Kelechi Osemele

Let that sink in for a bit.

The physicality is why I like the matchup. Webb is certainly a question mark because he hasn't practice or played. But with Chykie, he actually does well with more physical guys, especially if the refs allow contact on both sides. If there isn't a fear of a guy running past him, Chykie does pretty well. So we'll see. I've been hard on the guy this TC and preseason but he has improved seemingly each game. So I think he can force Dalton to make some tight window throws and that bodes well for the Ravens to get their hands on some balls.

While we do have speed at the ILB position, both CJ and Brown are still relatively young and inexperienced. So there could be some rookie/young player mistakes there. I think Hue Jackson is gonna wanna get the ball out of Dalton's hands early and often, his TEs might be a huge focus. Then D. Smith showed some signs of not being able to run with some of the better TEs last year. I expect the entire group to hold up well, but If the Bengals are to have success on offense, I think it'll be Gresham and Eiffer that will do the work for them.

i agree about chykie but the thing is he really needs work on locating the ball, and with a guy like sanu that flaw can be exploited.

daryl smith struggled at times but i thought overall he was a playmaker and pretty solid in zone coverage last year, he wasnt some shutdown coverage LB but that isnt a super common thing anyway, i expect to see some solid play from one of our 3 ILB's in tandem with one of our safeties to shut down the TE game

Yeah, hopefully Webby's fortunes take a turn upward.

Ngata "mailing it in at times"? Don't think so. I think you are mistaking being on the field and available to play even though injured for "half stepping".  Consummate professional. Even then he was a valuable piece of the Team that won the SB. And I think you would agree that $3 mil. a year was a steal for his first 5 years of stellar play.

Hoping we make a positive statement today even though I'm not expecting the "new look" offense to be firing on all cylinders.

But yeah, count me among those who isn't satisfied with him. Made of glass.

Anyway, I hope we look good at least so I have hope going forward. I'm not particularly enthusiastic right now because I just don't know. The Bengals are a great team so I'm not sure I can guarantee a win here.

Ngata has absolutely mailed it in at times. I've watched him not give his full effort. This was a reported problem of his since college so it's nothing new. I'm sure he's playing hurt and he definitely helped a lot during the Super Bowl run but he's not his usual dominant self. And it doesn't matter how he played before. We all know what kind of league it is. With that said, I'm no longer subscribing to the notion that Ngata is cut next year. I think he'll definitely play out his deal but I'm not confident he'll get re-signed. I do think he'll have a good season though. He's one of the guy's I'll be watching closely all season.

Those numbers include his restructure. I don't think we'll cut Webb but I'm just showing how we could if we so chose even after the recent restructure. That's the point. I think Webb will play today and this is all probably smoke and mirrors.

If Webb doesn't play the Bengals are putting up at least 27.

This guy's injuries really just annoy me. Good player but unreliable.
