All-Time NBA Draft: Discussion

Every position has solid depth lol

Word.

I disagree on any position plateauing. There are tons of capable of swing-men and you can build a bigger or smaller line-up if you want to.

He would be my pick ahead of Russell and maybe Jabbar.

Oh, wow. It's always a relief to hear that. Thank you.

Wilt was too into his own stats for me. Kareem and Russell may not have had better talent, but they were better players.

Well, are we drafting for a long-term franchise or an all-star game type thing? For one game, I'd take Wilt. Franchise, I'd have to go with Bill.

I think the official word has been that we get them for their best stretch of years. And I'd suggest the confusion's only getting started.

I don't think so. It's the way coaches relied on his 30-40 PPG. When he was asked to pass more and shoot less, he did. Sixers won NBA that way. Russell and Jabbar were also surrounded by better players/teams.

Yeah, plus it's hard to compare guys like Wilt and Russell who played in a different era.

No, it had nothing to do with what the coaches want. If you do any research about Wilt, it was all about Wilt.

Yes, it's the best stretch of their careers. What confusion?

I don't see confusion either. This will end as 11 Allstar teams that can play competitive ball.

Basically this. There are a lot of assumptions about whether the players would have adapted to whatever era it's all set in and what resources would be available (what we really love about guys like Russell is that they were ahead of their time, while even someone like Mo Harkless would probably be a star from athletics alone because of how far medicine and training have come).

Friendly announcement to those picking after me: if my pick doesn't come up in the next few minutes, I'm going to bed for the night. Don't stay up and wait.

You can always leave your 2 top picks with someone else in case birdest makes selection.

Happy to take your board. You pick twice before I pick again, so there's no chance of me taking your guy unless you change your mind in the second round.

If Wilt Chamberlain is anywhere near as productive on this roster, it can be all about him for as much as he wants.

Looking like it won't matter anyway.

He wouldn't be putting up his career numbers going up against people just as talented as himself.

Well, he was putting those numbers against Russell. Just the rest of the team couldn't keep up with Celtics.

Offer's open, allblackraven and I should be around for a few hours yet (mid-afternoon here in Kiwi land).

That's true, but he was playing with a bunch of scrubs essentially against a team that was a bunch of scrubs (other than Russell).

Sharman and Bob Cousy were hardly scrubs.

Numbers were also inflated by the number of Minutes played back then. Wilt averaged 45.8 MPG for his career. That is absolutely insane, but the playstyle was so different back then.

Compared to NBA rosters in today's game, teams were bereft of talent, and they came before Wilt.
