All-Time NBA Draft: Discussion

Except you were comparing Wilt to Russel from the same era, never mind. Not starting that again. You were crushed in that debate by Truth. I've won all the debates we've had, at least by popular opinion, and the only one I remember having with you that was actually proven is when you (and others) and I kept telling me about the short, cheap deal Pitta was going to be lucky to get. I'm not getting testy. I actually enjoy being the Stephen A. to your uncanny Skip Bayless.

And I'm going to bed now and forgetting about this, so you're free to tell your friends you won this one, too.

I never even compared Wilt and Russell, but ok.

And no, you didn't win any debate because the stats like my arguments more.

Paul>Kidd

Even though Kidd is the more consistent player and some team's would be better with Kidd

This I never argued. I was stating it's hard for me to rank Paul ahead on the all time list at the moment, but I do know he's better. Their has to be more to it than just talent when you're ranking players, otherwise Randy Moss is the greatest receiver ever. Paul can still get there, but he's not there, yet. I also think Kidd raised the level of play of his teammates and team as a whole more than Paul, but Paul is improving tons in that area lately.

The fact that Paul dragged those NO teams to the playoffs in a stacked WC completely destroys this argument.

Your argument is essentially that Kidd had a longer career than Paul, which is silly to me. It's like saying Vince Carter is better than KD.

I wanted to build a starting five that was similar to what the Spurs do so well at the moment - move the ball around, shoot well from the three and play with some good fundamentals. I think Steve Nash is the glue guy for all of that, and I love the idea of Nash, Maravich and Bird all being able do distribute the ball and shoot efficiently. And there's a lot to like about a frontcourt of Malone and Robinson (who can still space the floor well enough but also grab rebounds and score inside).

Time to plan the rest of this roster. How many rounds are we doing?

Nice pick in George Gervin. Was hoping he would fall to me as my sixth man

Thanks, he was an incredible scorer in his day, and his finger roll is a thing of beauty.

Great value pick, as well.

Fair play. It's gone, just like Jason Kidd. :(

I see a good consolation prize still available.

And Nash was it. Nice pick

Cheers. I'm a sucker for traditional point guards so Nash was second on my board after Stockton. I love Paul for that reason (he's my favourite current player not on Orlando's roster) but his smaller body of work pushed him down my board a bit.

You available to take my board for a while. I'm out of it today and may turn in early.

Savvy move to get some defense on your offensively explosive squad, Truth.

Thank you. I was actually stumbling over the selection because Mutombo wasn't the highest rated player on my board. To be honest, he wasn't even in the Top 3 so I pegged it as a slight reach. He was never an outstanding scorer and wasn't considered as the best player at his position during any stretch of his career. But when I considered the players already on the roster, it seemed like a proper fit. Elgin Baylor was a terrific scorer who had an uncanny offensive post-game, but I'm unsure of exactly how he fared defensively. John Stockton was a very good defender in his day, but the lack of athleticism could cost him against some of the most athletic PGs. With that in mind, having Wilt Chamberlain and Dikembe Mutombo patrolling down low would help keep opposing players out of the paint.

Yeah I'll be around if you still want to send it in. It's early afternoon here so I won't be going to bed any time soon or anything.

Shall I wait for him to come back and change his pick?

You're allowed to make your selection the moment one is made before you, so you're free to post it.
