All-Time NBA Draft: Discussion

PS: how about them Orioles?! Resilient ball club. Even when Davis is struggling, we need to keep him in the lineup for opportunities like tonight. 29 games left . Let's win the AL East

If I am not mistaken, Dirk went 25th and Malone went within the next few picks. Both great players. Too much board has been spent on discussing the 2. We are only 3 rounds deep

Its not a big deal, but what's the point if we can't have a discussion?

Defense

Malone was never considered to be a great defender. Granted, Dirk has been more of a liability at that end as well.

You didn't see the NBA DAF thread did you because that was nothing compared to a certain debate

Malone was all-defensive first team three years in a row from '97-99. So if we are considering their best stretch of years, then you do have to give him that.

That was closer to the end of his career, but yeah that does mean something.

Right. During that span, he won two MVPs and two Western Conference championships. Hence, that was the best stretch of his career.

Not statistically, but it's besides the point.

Statistics are a better measure of offensive output. You can include more years if you'd like, but you can't exclude those seasons when considering him and stating that he wasn't considered a great defender. For the record, he did make an all-defensive second team once in the 80s near the start of his career, as well. Whatever. I've already stated Dirk was a good pick for your team, but you can't deny Malone's all-around game, including defense.

P.S. I was never a fan of Malone. I have given my best friend, who grew up loving the Jazz, a hard time about him being overrated for years. I have to remove bias in a draft like this, though, and give the man his props. I think he's the second best PF in history (behind Duncan), but I still like players like Sir Charles and KG more. Never really a fan of Dirk, either, but he's unbelievable and has a unique skill set that I've never seen before. Those off-balanced, one-footed, fade away jumpers are unreal. He probably has multiple championships on his resume if they kept Nash around longer.

Malone was not considered a great defender. That is my point. Its fine though, we can let it go.

He made it 4 times, I believe. One with the Second Team and three with the First Team.

Yes. I mentioned the other three earlier.

I guess we better because I clearly don't understand how you can continue to take that stance. If being recognized for three straight years as the league's premier defender amongst all power forwards isn't enough, I guess I have no better argument.

Three years out of his career hardly definitely defines him lol. Please.

Like I said, I thought we were taking the best stretch of their careers. And also like I said, he made it again in the 80s, so it appears this was more a trend than a fluke.

It's all about the team your building. I for one built for defense and ruggedness. I wanted people to hate having to play my boys. Which is why I passed on KD even though Durant is a great player he wouldn't really fit my team.

Great pick SAM

My picks are in, I am very happy with how the team is shaping up.

I upped both of your selections. Good choices.

Kidd running my offense should be fun to watch with the likes of Kobe and Wilkins there.

My team is smarter than EVERYONE's  :P (joking)

Thanks. Hayes is the guy I really wanted at PF - scores from inside and out, rebounds and he is a blocking machine. I can switch him to C, too - he more than held his own against some greats at the position.

We are back on EdReed's selection, correct?

With other versions of these games, if someone gets skipped they're usually on autoskip until they make their picks.

Unbelievable team. Legends falling to you every time with the clear and unpredictable (for me at least) contemporary bias taking place in this draft.

You are somehow building a killer squad without grabbing anyone from the pre-Nike era. Impressive.
