Jon Ogden-whats Tha Deal?

13 posts in this topic

Is Ogden still nursing his hurt big toe?!. I mean come on it's been a year or so now.. I noticed on the depth chat it says..

LT None, Jared Gaither, Steve Edwards & then moving onto right tackle

RT Adam Terry, Michael Kracalik, Marshal Yanda. BTW I didn't know Terry is going to start cool I got his autograph :) icleast thats what it looks like about the whole starting part.

Anyways I see Ogden nowhere I know he isnt practicing in training camp which must be nice, anyone know what's going on and if he is playing this pre-season and if not.. is he going to icleast make regular season game 1 and so on?. I know he was contemplating retirement but it seemed everyone talked him out of it. Maybe they shouldn't have if he is just going to sit back and collect money on the bench with an injured toe thats been injured forever and a day..

Turf toe sounds like a really stupid injury, but actually its very serious. What happens to the toe in turf toe?

When a player sustains a turf toe injury they are actually tearing the capsule that surrounds the joint at the base of the toe. Tearing this joint capsule can be extremely painful. Furthermore, tear of the joint capsule can lead to instability and even dislocation of the joint at the base of the toe. This may lead to accelerated cartilage wear and arthritis of the big toe. In order to block you need to be able to flex that area and have it bear a lot of weight. Unfortunately, turf toe can return, and rehabilitation may be slow. I think they are just being cautious, and it looked like JO was not limping, and he was standing during the scrimmage.

Just have a feeling he will not be in for any pre-season games the depth chart didn't even list him it said no one. =/ not good, not good at all. Deion had turf toe 1 year and came back within months.. I guess Ogdens size has a lot more to do with the injury.

I can understand that you are frustrated, and JO may well miss all of the pre-season. But the fact is, he is a veteran and has earned the right to take as much time as is needed. Injuries heal slower the older you get, and JO can effectively be plugged right back into this offense when healthy and still be significantly better than anyone else currently on the line.

Hopefully he'll be back in for the regular season and provided he's keeping himself in good condition physically (and I'm sure he is), he'll help us massively this season. JO didn't come back for the money, but to win a Super Bowl and I'm sure he'll give every effort when he does get back to help the Ravens achieve that.

I sure do hope so :)

I'm sure an established veteran like Ogden is just making sure that everything is in line before worsening it. Tackles like him, Pace, Allen and others don't really need the preseason work as much as others since they're all such great established franchise players. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

My son got turf toe last year playing JV football. To this day, he said it still bothers him here and there. The doctor said he may eventually need surgery, but right now, it isn't serious enough to warrant the surgery. As someone else posted, turf toe sounds like a minor injury, but it is not. It can cause a lot of discomfort, especially when you are using your foot to push off of.

wether hes being a baby about his turf toe or cautious doesnt matter, with Jared Gaither really stepping up as a potential replacement i would love for JO to be 100% in the regular season so that Gaither has someone to learn from, rather than risk having him injure himself more in a game that, more or less, means nothing, and lose that valuable pro-to-rookie experience. hearing the advice is one thing, but seing him perform would only bolster gaither's understanding of JO's style of play

They can't list JO on the depth chart while he's on PUP.

Think about the amount of stress JO puts on that toe every time he stands up. It isn't going to heal FAST.

They will wait as long as possible to start working him. Its just smart to give the toe as much rest as possible. Hopefully it wont bother him to much during the season.

I figured A YEAR or SO would be PLENTY of time, but I guess I am wrong.. not worried anyways Jared Gaither seems to fill in JUST FINE!!.

And is the same height may even weigh the same or a little more then Ogden and A LOT quicker then Ogden is which is awesome and a great feeling to know when Ogden goes we have another beast even quicker to fill his shoes!!, and then Ogden will probably go in the HOF eventually. ANYWAYSS Ozzie Newsome is a genius!! as like if anyone didn't already know that

Gaither will be fine through the preseason and probably could do alright through the regular season but its best if he has someone to emulate and if JO is fully recovered by the season opener then it'll be best for everybody because he can provide that example of what a pro bowl tackle is all about

It only been a little over 7 months since his last game. He was told it would take 4-6 months of rest to heal.
