Predict the first 15 cuts for Tuesday, August 26th

42 posts in this topic

I was going to wait a couple of days to start this, but with the game being tomorrow night, it's possible you could see some moves made on Sunday or Monday.

Predict your 15 roster moves that must be made by 4pm on Tuesday.  The prize?  Nothing more than good old fashioned bragging rights.

1.  Brent Urban (IR) - He can go without being exposed to waivers at this point.

2.  Kapron Lewis-Moore (IR) - Same as Urban.

3.  Will Rackley (IR) - He's still dealing with concussion issues, so he'll go to IR and stay or get an injury settlement.

4.  Brett Van Sloten - Getting very few reps and doesn't have a shot.

5.  Austin Spitler - Brought in for ST ability, but is getting outplayed there.

6.  Omar Brown - A distant last in the S race, coming off of a terrible game on Saturday.

7.  Fitzgerald Toussaint - Another guy getting very few reps.

8.  Mike Willie - No more than a camp body.

9.  Levi Brown - No more than a camp body.

10.  Marrio Norman - No more than a camp body.

11.  LaQuan Williams - He's getting few reps, even at ST, so we cut bait and give him a shot to find another team.

12.  Sammy Seamster - There's always a "surprise" UDFA cut and I'll go with Seamster this year.

13.  Jace Davis - No more than a camp body.

14.  Richie Leone - The wolfpack stays together, so there's no room for Leone.

15.  Nick DiMarco - No more than a camp body.

Keep in mind that some guys may go on IR originally, only to be released a couple of days later with an injury settlement.

Don't forget about Ross.

He's already on IR so he's not even part of our 90.

I think you're right on a lot of these, but I'll modify it a bit.

1.  Brent Urban (IR)

2.  Kapron Lewis-Moore (IR)

3.  Will Rackley (IR)

4.  Brett Van Sloten

5.  Austin Spitler

6.  Omar Brown - After the last game, I finally see the light. It pains me.

7.  Cierre Wood - He's been unimpressive. I thought Fitz was much better first preseason game.

8.  Mike Willie

9.  Levi Brown

10.  Jamie Meder

11.  LaQuan Williams

12.  Sammy Seamster - Hasn't really stood out like Jacobs and Deji.

13.  Jace Davis

14.  Richie Leone

15.  Nick DiMarco

So only Toussaint vs. Wood, and Meder vs. Norman are the differences.  The only reason I kept Meder around is because we lack depth on the DL and I think we'll want to use these UDFA guys to run the whole 4th game to preserve what healthy guys we have left.

I wonder what happened to Omar.

it seems that he just plain isnt very good. Fans made him out to be much more than he was because he was in the right place at the right time in his first preseason, and the nickname didnt help

I'm still hoping Norman gets more playing time and lights it up.

I wouldn't count on it.  He's really nothing more than a camp body.

You know, after going back and watching game 2 against Dallas I came away impressed by James Hurst as a pass protector. I think he looked pretty damn good in that role. He needs work as a run blocker, but it wouldn't shock me to see him become this year's Jensen, where he's on the 53 but never plays. It wouldn't surprise me at all. Also, Shipley looked absolutely terrible against Dallas. I'm not sure he's promised a roster spot at this point. He could be in this group of 15.

I also think it's possible Jensen could be in the 15 cuts, if we're going to stash him on the PS, which I find likely at this point. I think we'll want to have as many RB, CB and DT as possible to protect those positions from further injury.

I'll post my projections later on today before the game.

Swap Seamster for Shipley and that's my list. Shipley is garbage and I'd like for Urschel to get more time. As for Seamster, I think he goes to PS after the preseason.

Shipley has been horrible in the past two games. He has starting experience and looked good on a bad Colts offensive line but his play is terrible. He's definitely on the bubble as far as I can see.

You would think that we cut the 15 worst guys but I could see a couple surprise cuts here to try to sneak them to the PS. Heck maybe a trade for another team's likely cut.

As much as I dislike Shipley, I don't see him going anywhere.

After tonight's game, all the players mentioned above practically didn't even play, let alone actually doing something to improve their position. There won't be any surprises come Tuesdays, I believe.

Seamster is the only one I'm questioning because he got some ST reps, but I'll leave it as is.

The Ravens have an ordeal on their hands here at CB and safety. Levine looked good playing as a CB and had a very nice deflection and some good coverage overall. He got burned really bad on the catch that could've been, but overall I liked his play and he's doing this with the starting ST unit. I think he'll make the team. We seem to like Trawick, so it'll be interesting to see what happens with him. He had a big role on ST as well, and seems to be working his way into the defense.

Jacobs played relatively well. He wasn't great but he was solid and did a good job making tackles when the receiver caught the ball

Chykie Brown was silent all night. Knowing the Ravens, I think we will want to keep him especially after last night. He is one of our better gunners on ST.

I think Deonte earned himself a roster spot with his performance last night combined with a silent performance from Aiken. I heard nothing from Butler, of whom I feel could be a surprise cut that we try to sneak onto the PS.

Owen Daniels misses another game and more practice and I begin to wonder if we might cut bait with him. Chapas didn't play from what I saw and if he did he we invisible.

I was really impressed by James Hurst. I know others aren't but I really like his pass protection and he fits the line of OL that Castillo likes to coach up. I think he might sneak his way onto the 53, though he might get injured.

Shipley continues to disappoint. He's being moved constantly off the ball and isn't strong or very athletic. Outside of his starting expertise in the NFL, I feel like he offers nothing and I think he could very well be cut. I still feel like the Ravens are waiting on Connolly to be potentially cut by the Patriots. I just don't see any value in Shipley. He's terrible and Hurst deserves a spot on the team more than him.

Oh and additionally John Simon has played very poorly this preseason and would likely be cut if he wasn't a fourth round pick.

Don't get my hopes up. Connolly is good enough to start on most teams if you ask me.

Agreed here on all counts.

Yeah, I am really interested in seeing if the Patriots cut him as it's been projected being a possibility. The Patriots also like a guy who was with us last year--Devey. I actually liked him quite a bit for us last year, but he was cut and the Patriots scooped him up, Now, he is in line for their OL and with the addition of Stork as a pick, one of Wendell or Connolly will likely be cut. It's a projection I've seen around for some time. Due to Connolly's price tag, people suspect he could be a cap casualty.

It's definitely an interesting situation and I am sure we are monitoring it closely.

This is off topic, but I was wondering if suspended players count to the roster when predicting the team in the Pick the Team contest?

The Bills cut Dennis Dixon. Does anyone know how he played in preseason?

Have you seen the Bills' quarterback situation? He's probably not worth a pick up

I didn't think we'd cut bait with Mims yet or Wood considering his connection to Kubiak but none of these names are surprising.

Wood doesn't surprise me at all.  I wouldn't say Mims is surprising necessarily, but I did think we'd keep him around for one more game just for depth purposes.

Yeah, I don't see any as a surprise. I just thought they might last until the final waive of cuts. I don't like the idea of sending Pierce out there next game. In fact, I'm beginning to doubt he can ever be more than a complementary RB.

Looks like it'll be a heavy dose of Forsett, Taliaferro, and Toussaint.  I doubt Pierce plays.  Him being a complementary back is a whole different argument lol.

No doubt. It just came to mind when I mentioned him and his injuries and wanting to prevent him from being injured in that final game. I hope we can name him look good this year and that he can remain healthy. He has two more years left on his rookie deal. I'd definitely consider trading him next off-season if we got a good deal.

Brett Van Sloten waived/injured with a future injury settlement coming.

No DL released, so I guess we now know that we won't be risking injury and we'll be letting these young guys handle a majority of the game.
