21 posts in this topic

Forbes just posted their best NFL fans list and the Ravens come in at #5.

Rankings "based on: five criteria:

-Hometown crowd reach (defined by Nielsen Scarborough as a percentage of the metropolitan area population that watched, attended, and/or listened to a game in the last year)

-3 years worth of television ratings (per Nielsen),

-3 years of stadium attendance based on capacity reached,

-3 years worth of merchandise sales (per NFLShop.com),

-social media reach (a combination of Facebook likes and Twitter followers based on the team’s metro area population)." -Forbes

I don't agree with 2-4. Broncos has to be merchandise all those brand new Manning jerseys don't come cheap lol Same as the Luck jerseys and we beat the Steelers and every other AFCN team, so not too shabby.

Broncos 2??????!!!!! Bull crap

Look no further than the Manning bandwagoners for your justification. I live about 90 minutes from the University of Tennessee (his alma mater) and they are everywhere here.

5th really isn't bad based on their criteria, considering that Baltimore is a fairly small market "sandwiched" between Washington and Philadelphia with what I would imagine is a smaller fanbase outside the area (like me lol).

For all the people thinking Denver is full of bandwagoners is ignorant.  Sure they have bandwagoners, how the hell can't your casual fan bandwagon that team, but don't insult their fans, they've been known for years to be some of the most devoted and emotional.  They've sold out every game for a couple decades as well, think it was since sometime in the 70s.

I'm happy we're ranked 5 cuz considering we r in a very small market and young organization. ..10 yr from now we should be ranked 1.....

Too much weighting went into social media and merchandise imo. It rewards a big bandwagon and comes back to the quantity-quality thing. Still though, #5 is still good.

5th is pretty darn respectable. We're a small market team and have only existed since 1996.

I'm pretty proud of us!

Would have been higher if we didn't have to split the purple kool-aid drinking with Viking fans.

agreed.

you also have to look at the geographical distribution of the fanbase - I live 960 miles from Denver (google maps put it at a 14 hr. drive), yet many people up here consider Denver the "home" team. Their fanbase covers like half the country.

I can also say, from perusing their boards (where it's the same 10 or so posters continually writing novellas on how great they are), that our fans are WAY more involved, intense, passionate and knowledgeable.

Ravens fans are the BEST!

I'm not surprised that Green Bay was number 1, the fans own stock in the team, which has a managing partner get the Lombardi. The stock deal was grandfathered years ago. They even have a fan dating site Packerbakcers.com.

Agree. Broncos have a good bit of history too. They do have a good fan base.

And I can take fifth. We all know we're the best, but I guess we can let the other fan bases think they're better than us.

There are no small market teams in the NFL except Jacksonville. Our franchise is also very valuable to boot...been top 10 for several years.

Only reason people hate the Ravens is because we haven't been around long enough that ravens fans have moved to other parts of the country and started families. Ravens ain't our daddy's team so it doesn't resonate with a lot of people.

And we beat out Philly and DC, lol.

I dunno about small market....but we have a lot if haters because lack of history and not too many from b-more are Hollywood, in sports media or a high profile coach.

With steelers you always hear from celebs so to speak the are from western PA or had family from western PA....you rarely hear about celebs coming up around b-more or had fam from b-more.

The Ravens are a relatively young franchise, whose fans never went through a long period of losing. Recently, in the Harbaugh/Flacco-era of Ravens football, the fanbase got spoiled with unprecedented success. I'd like to believe, that every Ravens fan is just diehard and not just a fairweather fan, who drops and curses the team at the first sight of trouble, but that would be naive.

To me, the truely great fans are the ones, who support their team no matter what, like the fans of the Browns or the Bears. Time will tell, if Baltimore Ravens fans measure up to that.

Oh, and start Tyrod, an 8-8 season? What the heck Flacco!?!?
