2015 Compensatory picks

8 posts in this topic

Well, I just thought about it and I was lost. Who are the players that are going to excel and leave the Ravens for greener pastures? I hop it isn't Upshaw or McPhee...

Who do you guys think gets too expensive to keep? And how many such players do we have on our roster right now?

Upshaw isn't a free agent yet. That's not next off-season but the one after with Jimmy.

I think McPhee is going to be gone. I see us featuring him to generate another compensatory pick. Sadly he might be our only one that gets traction. I think we're highly likely to re-sign Torrey Smith if that was even a question and I don't see much else on our roster who will command a compensatory pick. Perhaps Chykie plays well enough that he generates something, though I can't imagine it'll be more than a 6th round selection.

I thought so as well... McPhee seems to be the only viable candidate that may be hard to retain if he plays as he is expected to...

Or this year we say screw the comp picks and go after some of this receiving talent. Dez and Cobb are FA's. Man, I'd love one of them.

Who would be worth a comp pick? Likely only McPhee since Torrey won't leave here

I think we're unlikely to do that considering that those players are expensive. If anything, I think we would spend money on a CB before a WR. Just my opinion, though.

The market just isn't as strong for corners. Guys like Crabtree, Wayne, and Welker are also free agents. Heck, even Cecil Shorts and Jeremy Maclin. The Ravens could consider one of them. The receiver market, right now, is so loaded that the Ravens could get one of them for low.

As far as cornerbacks go, you'd be looking at Tramon Williams, who's been very inconsistent, Byron Maxwell, who might be a product of system, Walter Thurmond, who we'll see on, Charles Tillman, and Brandon Flowers, who would likely cost too much. The money would be better spent trying to get McCourty from the Patriots, sliding Brooks to CB, and drafting another one

McPhee and Chykie are the guys you want to do well, not too many guys going into FA this year honestly. Only really hope we get Torrey locked up

This.  Root for McPhee and Chykie.  Those are about the only options for comp picks.  All of the other guys are likely to go out and sign 1 year, low value deals, if anything at all.
