Official Vent Thread : Cut who? who needs to walk home!

I think pees should have been fired after the Super Bowl season, I know spats would be a lot better leadin the defense, he at least can generate a pass rush scheme. Our defense has lost that luster.....I don't feel the electricity no more. We're the ravens, this passive conservate stuff makes me shudder.

We will see what Terryl Austin does in Detroit. If their d is at the top of the league, then I'm right there with you. I thought Austin would be a GREAT d coordinator for us. Pees is just too conservative. And he's another one of Harbs boys, so it might end up like the Cam situation.

Here's a question...which WR should be cut? Thompson looks to be a legit KR/PR. Campanaro, Butler, and Aiken look to have more of an impact in the receiving role than don't kill me...Jacoby. Jones was a our SB hero yes and I love that dude for that. He's what 30 now and has never lived up to his WR 2 role...where campanaro has a legitimate shot at talking over for Smith Sr. And Butler could have a bright future with us. I'd hate to have another Rainey situation happen where we fans see a UDFA grow with us only to lose him trying to sneak him on the PS. Or do we just cut Aiken...if u ask me he looks better than Jacoby.

I think Jacoby is safe just like Daniels is. They're both players experienced in Kubiak's system. Both are veterans. You can't have too much inexperience. I'd like to keep Thompson just as a return specialist but I'm not sure that's more valuable than another guy who can play ST at a high level and be used on offense. Thompson really just does one thing well and that's return. Jacoby can return and is a home run threat on offense. In that role he excels.

Thompson only played 2 snaps on offense Saturday night.  That doesn't bode well for his chances as a WR.  His only chance is as a returner, and that'll depend on what they want to do with Jacoby and company.  It seems Jacoby is the clear #3 over Marlon right now, so we could want to preserve him.  Regardless, it doesn't look good for him.

Are you serious about Jacoby? He is playing the best football of his life plus a top 5(?) returner with a good contract.

This Daniels saga has worn thin already hasnt practiced a lick because he is "resting" his legs? So far him and Ed Dickson are tied in pre-season catches..

Daniels is healthy. The coaching staff of Kubiak/Dennison couldn't know this TE any better. They know his strengths and weaknesses. Not to mention what an intelligent TE he is. Daniels doesn't need to grind down his body unnecessarily in Training Camp/Preseason. We saw what this offense looks like without a backup plan if Pitta gets injured, its not good. We need to keep Daniels healthy, and I don't believe it's a 'saga' lol.

Except for the TD to Dez (2nd best WR in football), Dominique Franks is starting to come on strong. IF Webb, Smith, Asa and Franks all can stay healthy, our corners may be pretty strong.

Tackling and general prevention of YAC was pretty bad. I like the idea of the interchangeable right and left safety in lieu of the traditional free and strong safety; but I really think Elam is better as a hybrid linebacker closer to the line. For this to happen, we need a complimentary safety that can be a single high guy. I am not sure that Stewart is this guy.

He's still with a slew of all new teammates here.  He may know the offense, but that doesn't mean he has timing and chemistry down with Flacco and the OL.  I've never heard of a team letting a guy rest for almost a week now.  I'm not saying that he's in danger of being cut or anything, but there's definitely more to this than just rest.

Definitely a possibility of a minor injury. But he has gotten some work in with Flacco during practice, and is taking all the mental reps he needs to take. I think its just a situation of thinking of the big picture this year with Daniels, if he does have an injury. Im pretty confident that he and Flacco can get on the same page fairly quickly.

It's weird how hush-hush they're being about the whole situation, which is what really concerns me.  Every time they ask Harbaugh, it's a quick "rest" and then onto the next question.  My main worry is that if he's this sore now, what will he be like midseason?  Is he a guy that's going to consistently be in and out of the lineup?  It's just an odd situation all around.  I hope everything is alright with him.  As Crush pointed out, he's dealing with soreness in his leg, which he conveniently broke last year.  That doesn't sound good at all.

Thats a good point that you bring up. If he's dealing with soreness in his leg that he broke last year, whats the issue? Is it the surrounding muscle that atrophied as a result of inactivity; or is it related to the actual bone? Harbaugh is being hush-hush, which is concerning, but also not out of character. Im praying it is preventative measures though, we need Daniels in the lineup.

if you heard coach Hardhead yapping today he said Daniels is an older guy and fatigue is a factor. Really? the season is a month away and he is wiped out already? lol great sign of things to come...hope they didnt toss Dallas Clarks phone number out

Why do we NEED Daniels on the field? Juice + Pitta > Daniels + Pitta I think. And I think as the season goes on, any combination of Gilmore + Pitta + Juice will be better.

We need him on the field because when Pitta went down last year we were left with a pair of scrubs (Clark,Dickson). I think Juice is a stud, and could have a big season. I also love Gilmore's potential, but he's a rookie. Fingers crossed we stay healthy in these spots, but if anyone one of them go down, its nice to have Daniels in the fold who can make plays.

Yes, agreed. We NEED Daniels as a backup to Pitta, but do not see him being a huge impact player for us this year unless someone goes down. Whatever he gives us would be great; but Pitta, Juice and our RBs should factor more into the passing game than he. (outside of the WRs).

Just a quick thought after looking at the ravens receiving corps. Anyone think the Ravens could try and put Deonte Thompson out there and try and possibly get some sort of draft pick for him. I mean even if its a 6th or 7th the way ozzie is able to package picks together for trades every pick counts. He is definitely on the bubble with this team and he just had an amazing return game against Dallas and put together some good tape. He definitely has some untapped potential but I just don't think thats going to be realized in Baltimore. The ravens don't really need him at returner and its doubtful he'd see much time at all at receiver if he even made the team. So rather than cutting him would it be worth just seeing if another team would be interested, theres always rooms for a good return man who can also at play WR (even if he did poorly for us that doesn't mean a change of scenery cant help him)

I said this on another forum, but I don't think a pick in return is reasonable.

However, I could see us trading him in a player swap.  Find someone with depth at DL or CB and see if we can make a Tony Moll/Derrick Martin type of swap.  Basically, two teams get rid of a player that otherwise wouldn't make their team.  Does a team like that exist?  I don't know, but I think that's the only hope of trading him.

Yeah, that's probably our best option at this point. Maybe throw in a 7th from the McKinnie trade to try and make it a little sweeter.

Hopefully, Coach will give the offense the ball first when they win the coin toss, next time. Cut? I don't want to speculate just yet but there isn't much time before the first round of cuts which will occur after this week's games.

I'm pretty pleased that we seem to be able to run the ball. Very concerned about almost everything else.1) i'm not sure why Flacco's inaccuracies and slow starts are excused at this stage of his career.

2) We have no depth at outside linebacker and Adrian Hamilton must be horrible beyond belief for them to give up on a guy who could generate pressure albeit in the preseason.

Hey what's up with coach always commenting on a players health?? I mean in all my years I have never heard of a player not practicing/playing due to fatigue. Why not pass the question? Does he not know how stupid he sounds? I know I know coaches are asked these questions n they must talk to the media....well why don't I see billicheck talking about any of his players?? You can find coaches comments all up n down the internet since camp started. N probably can count on one hand the times billicheck has said anything at all.whats up with that?! Btw I know I spelled his name wrong.

No, The NFC least is a second rate division compared to the West so the Giants can make more noise within.

Bad comparison, the Giants first team offense has looked like absolute trash. Flacco was 1/9 to start his last game...Eli has been 1/9 PERIOD in his past two games.
