Official Vent Thread : Cut who? who needs to walk home!

135 posts in this topic

I didn't see the game but it sounds like we started rough on offense and defense. I wouldn't take much into that. It's preseason, and a lot of guys can be just going through the motions. Dallas' D should have been more motivated to prove they don't suck (and in front of their home crowd) than our own offense, and Romo needed to prove he's fine.

That TD against Franks looked ugly, but that's kind of to be expected. And who knows how hard it is to defend with all the flags they're throwing for minimal contact.

What I don't get is why defenders get so much flack for contact when receivers can almost push off their defenders and not get flagged.

Oh, btw

IT'S PRESEASON! Can you all please stop freaking out. I don't recall us ever looking impressive in preseason and it carrying over, and vice versa. Good grief.

They're supposed to call offensive pi more as well

If our Defensive scheme is the same approach to Cincy and Pitt, we will be 0-2. We need to start attacking Offenses. We look passive and weak and easy to pick apart

On the bright side, Franks looked impressive last night...

I thought he was the one who gave up the TD to Dez. Given it was Dez Bryant, but man that looked sooo bad.

I haven't seen it enforced that way yet, but that doesn't mean they haven't in any of the games I haven't watched

I don't know why I said Upshaw here...meant Dumervil.

See him getting into the backfield just not getting sacks

I'm sure during season with tighter coverage in wrs he gets those sacks.

Worried about our corners. Webb and Jimmy are pro bowl level player, but if even just one of them gets hurt for more than 1 or 2 games, we are screwed at CB. The front 7 looks godly and so goes the o fortunately

he was so out of position it wasn't even funny.

Ray Horton. Would love to have him here as a DC. We've been soft. I hate this read and react defense. We strive when we dictate what other teams do. I didn't expect the best pass defense but the rush was terrible and the front seven just didn't seem to care. Offense was bad as well and like you said, I don't even think they scored on Dallas' 1s.

the offense got better I mean they had an hour from when warm ups ended and the 1st time the OT on the field. After The 3rd series Joe got it together. The run game looked good

I'm not terribly worried about the dline, because SF and DAL have to of the better olines.  that being said not a lot to get excited about.

I'm for firing Pees if the defense is mediocre again. We just spent TWO DRAFTS on them after all....

All in all I think we need more secondary depth

And Seattle... But we both know they ain't trading anyone

I was for firing Pees after last season, but definitely believe he should go if we're not a top defense this season. We've given the defensive side of the ball the moon - obviously if they don't step it up - it falls to the DC.

I think pees should have been fired after the Super Bowl season, I know spats would be a lot better leadin the defense, he at least can generate a pass rush scheme. Our defense has lost that luster.....I don't feel the electricity no more. We're the ravens, this passive conservate stuff makes me shudder.

After sleeping on it I'm giving the offense more leeway considering that they didn't see the field for nearly an hour after warmups. Reminds of the Super Bowl when they were hot, then the blackout, then boom...dead. They've made appreciable progress in a new system and they're not turning the ball over.

The defense is a massive liability right now though. Even minus the secondary you're right, where is the pass rush?

I think one of the positives to be taken away from the offense, is the way Joe and Kubes responded to the slow start. In year's past a slow start for Joe would likely mean an long game, especially since the OC didn't call favorable plays. However in this game, Kubes continued to call the offense in a way that allowed Joe to finally get into a rhythm and that's huge imo. We seemed to have a pass first emphasis early on, but Kubes was smart enough to go to the run game and set up the pass. Or other OCs would have just stuck with the original plan for 3 1/2 quarters it seems. I was impressed with that, even if it was against some of Dallas' backups.

I usually don't put too much stock into a preseason game as I mentioned before, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't concern about the defense. If it were a case where teams were tricking us because of lack of game planning, then cool, but that's not the case. I know it's preseason and we don't show much, but I don't like what I see.

That's the thing, we haven't been conservative this preseason. We are actually blitzing teams and mixing up coverages, we just don't seem to be comfortable within the defense right now. It almost feels like the Offense has been together for years and the Defense is learning a new scheme this year. The defense just doesn't seem comfortable or confident in what Pees is asking right now. It feels like the same situation with Caldwell. We are asking him to teach his philosophy but run someone else's system that he's not comfortable in.

I don't wanna just blame Pees because the Players have a lot to do with it, but right now there seems to be a disconnect and it has to be fixed quick.

who doesn't? I could only imagine what Chuck would do with the young and versatile talent this defense has. Let's hope whatever Pees' plan is, it comes together soon.

You're right. If anything I think we also learned that perhaps our offense should get the ball to start the game unlike in years past. Not that it's a requirement but it could help them get off to that fast start.

Here's a question...which WR should be cut? Thompson looks to be a legit KR/PR. Campanaro, Butler, and Aiken look to have more of an impact in the receiving role than don't kill me...Jacoby. Jones was a our SB hero yes and I love that dude for that. He's what 30 now and has never lived up to his WR 2 role...where campanaro has a legitimate shot at talking over for Smith Sr. And Butler could have a bright future with us. I'd hate to have another Rainey situation happen where we fans see a UDFA grow with us only to lose him trying to sneak him on the PS. Or do we just cut Aiken...if u ask me he looks better than Jacoby.

Both Thompon and Campanaro have a edge over Butler and Aiken.Butler didn't look good the last time i saw him out their on special teams but can't say the same for Aikens because I haven't seen him.

I haven't heard Sluggs name called since week 6 of last year..it's time to give some of his reps to the next generation of fresh legs and bring him on third down standing up. Staley handed him his butt during practice week. The only guy he has whipped has been Monroe whom by the way also looks very average at best. Its only pre-season but the D going back to last year is very predictable and vanilla and the only pressure is generated up the middle by a Smith/Brown LB rush..and while we are on Brown I think he is instinctively better in coverage that Mosely. He has better lateral speed and deserves some more PT in the PS to earn the starting slot.

Cut who? Wenning and Jensen are both flat out awful and Omar Brown has been a joke

The offense is also learning a new system, I expect them to continue to get better. It's honestly kind of unacceptable how far ahead of the defense they look right now considering the defense suffered very little turnover.

I totally agree with you. Hope the offense keep up and improve while the defense work on their game before the regular season starts! T'was good though to see that the offense is getting along.

Omar Brown has never been good he just lucked into turnovers during the preseason and you had people screaming for him to start. I'd like to see more of Wenning. He's a rookie who only got to hand the ball off during his first preseason game and the third string oline is horrendous. Jensen has been disapointing, I know he didn't get to play last year and this is his first year but he has to at least be decent to make the roster. Jah Reid has improved some, not to be the starter but good enough to be the extra blocker during running plays. Suggs has not been containing the edge consistently during the preseason. i think it's more of just wanting to rush the passer as opposed to playing his game. He made two really nice plays in the last preseason game getting a stop for a loss and following a play all the way to the end to minimize the running backs game.
