There's nothing wrong with being excited about Will Hill because he's proven to be able to perform at a high level against NFL competition. That's a big deal. With that said, of course expectations should be slightly tempered because you have no idea how a player will transition to a new environment. This is especially true in this case, as Hill only proved he could do this for one season.

With that said, we have Miles, Trawick, Brooks and Hill as potential FS in my book. I really don't like Stewart there and I'm hoping someone replaces him. I could care less who.

Most people are basing it off the situation as it stands right now. If Brooks came flying out of the gates and absolutely caught fire and was doing everything, no way he gets pushed out. But, if things are the way they are now, Hill is likely to start.

I am of the belief that Brooks will spend his rookie season at cornerback

I definitely get that, but while people base things on how they stand right now, you guys are also basing thing on how Hill performed last year. He's still a young player who is developing and will be forced to miss 6 weeks of not only game play, but practice time with a new team in a new system. I don't get the impression that people recognize how difficult that could potentially be. Now there is now way of knowing how Hill will respond to this and that's another factor to consider.

6 weeks in the NFL is a lifetime in some cases. There is no way of knowing if either Brooks, Stewart or someone else will step up at that position. To me it just seems like when people speak of Hill, they view him in the light of a guy like Ed Reed who would definitely be our start after a lengthy suspension because of the resume he's built. Hill hasn't shown anything with the Ravens and it's just hard for me to believe that the coaches "don't need to see" much of him because he had a good season on another team.

My point is simply, I just don't understand why Hill doesn't at least see 2nd team reps.

Well, there's still one more preseason game for him to see some meaningful snaps, or possibly run as a "starter" in the last game, but we'll see, right?

I tend to feel the same way about Stewart although the sample size is small. I guess we'll get a better idea of what he can do tonight with the defense game planning.

As much as I've went back and forth with people about Hill being the starter, I actually agree with BmoreBird22. I see Brooks moving to his more natural position of CB, even past this year, and Hill being the FS if he keeps his nose clean. Hill's the type of guy who I can see unlocking his full potential here in Baltimore. It's kind of frustrating not seeing him play at all.

yea I was just saying how I agree with your point that Brooks will probably be more of an CB this year, and I think it might be a permanent move for him. He's much more comfortable as a CB and wouldn't be surprised to see him have a really strong game tonight.

Also I think the Ravens really struck big with Will Hill, so I don't want people to think I'm knocking him. Just don't believe he'll be handed anything. Which is why I would like to see him run with at least the 2nd team and kind of give him some exposure before he is forced to leave for 6 weeks. But I'm sure the coaches have a plan that none of us will ever know about.

A projected secondary of Jimmy, Webb, Brooks, Hill, Ace and Elam is pretty exciting. Hopefully all those guys get a chance to play together this year.

I think Brooks could be in play for that, absolutely. Webb was originally a safety of I recall correctly when we drafted him and we had him play CB. This could be a similar situation. Honestly, with Webb being nicked up seemingly every year, we may seriously need to consider replacing him when it's possible to cut him without drastic cap effects. Either that or move him to FS. Jackson, Smith, and Brooks will play a large role in that decision.

With Hill, I think you have a talented player but I still think the Ravens will be cautious in any long-term plans for him considering his history and possibility of a season suspension. I think we're still likely to draft a FS or CB very high next year.

I'm really excited for Brooks' potential at CB. He played the position pretty well before moving to FS. I think he could've been a higher selection had he remained a CB.

yea definitely. Brooks is still technically learning the safety position which is one of the reasons for his early struggles. CB is definitely his natural position and I too think he would have been a higher pick at CB then he was at FS. It's funny you mention Webb because he's a lot like Webb with his style of play. We used to blitz Webb a lot and I can see Brooks do this.

I will continue to look at Hill as a insurance policy but he's a really good one. I just can't see the coaches putting much into him right now. He'll still have to prove himself but I think once given the opportunity he'll find a spot on this team.

I see Hill getting a lot of playing time in the fourth game. I think you'll see a lot of him in that game since he'll be gone six games anyway.

oh yea definitely. Depending on how well the starters play tonight, they might not even play in the 4th game.

Terrence Brooks played excellent.

I think Will Hill needs his own thread. This one got off topic.

Brooks had an up and down night. He showed some great flashes with his speed in getting that sack and made some plays in coverage too. He also had a needless penalty and let up a TD.

Overall, he was impressive and it looks like he is feeling more comfortable.

Brooks was one of the guys I'd try to watch for pre-snap (what can I say? Of all the guys we drafted this year, he was my favourite), and he's started to show a lot of the things I loved about him in college. A few rookie mistakes, but if he's still showing them in year three then we have a problem.

And anyone who can keep up with RGMe like that's automatically a respectable defender. And we have three of those guys now. ^_^

I didn't expect Brooks to play that well but he showed us he can play CB in this league. That's huge. If he can improve and continue to do well, and Asa Jackson also does the same, we'll have a hard time keeping Webb in his current capacity. Perhaps we move him finally, or perhaps we draft a FS next year (Drummond!!!)

I was very impressed by Brooks. He wasn't perfect but he was impressive.

Why would we draft a FS? We have a surplus of talent at the position already with Brooks and Hill. We need to draft a CB instead, but not before we pickup a pass rusher.

Well, it depends. It depends on where we want to play Brooks, who could remain at CB if he impresses enough. It's hard to find quality CBs and most teams would prefer to have a CB over a S, so if the team feels that Brooks is a good CB they would probably leave him there and take another guy to play FS over moving him is the thought. Furthermore, we have a surplus of talent but none of them may be long-term solutions. Even if Will Hill comes back and wins the job and plays well, he's a bit of a risk as you need to consider his history and the fact that with one more suspension he's done for the year. Same thought process as relying on Josh Gordon as a big time WR.

It's also more difficult to draft a CB, where a lot of them tend to go pretty early in the draft whereas safeties sometimes tend to drop.

Ravens & Hill have 8 more weeks before he can play. He'll have plenty of time to work with the 1s as his suspension draws to a close. I don't think Hill saw the field last again last night.

couldn't agree more. As I said before, once that light clicks on and he becomes more comfortable, he'll be a really good player. He's just gonna get better and better.

I think some of you are putting way to much stock in The "Brooks should play CB idea" he transitioned to FS because he was average at Corner, he was a backup cornerback at Florida so he took his skill set to the Free safety position where he excelled. He'll play like Earl Thomas plays, mainly safety but comes up to play Nickleback if the play calls for it.

i'm not a talent scout but a lot of this years draft class looks like they will be material contributors in 2-3 years. this years contributors may be mosby and jerrigan. juice went to harvard and he said his head was swimming last year. this year he looks like he knows whats going on.

all in all i feel the ravens have successfully transitioned from the ray lewis/ed reed era to a bright future with the restocking they have done. when most organization lose 2 first ballot HOF's they go into the tank for a while. the ravens went into the 4th quarter last year in a tie ball game that if they one the game they were in the playoffs. thats pretty darn good for what could be the teams low point for the next several years.

I think right now he is playing CB just because the team needs him to play CB. In the long term, he is best suited to play FS though.

That kid has wheels man.  If he gets it with his length and speed he could really do some damage.

It takes a lot more than speed to be a successful CB in the NFL.

If I remember correctly suspended players can't practice or attend the facility. So the best Hill can hope for is a playbook. Will Hill will be way behind once he returns, you just hope he has picked up the defense will enough in camp and can hit the ground running on his return.

I meant as a safety.  Some of those breaks he made were incredibly athletic.  He covered 15 yards on that wide receiver screen and got there at the same time as the ball.

Look at Florida States Corner of the last few years, Xavier Williams got drafted in the 1st. Darby and Williams are going to be Day 1/Day 2 prospects when they come out. That's not exactly a knock on him, but him getting playing experience where he can. He would play Nickelback if he got moved to CB, so you him playing FS/NB hybrid isn't far from just playing Nickleback while Stewart/Hill play FS.

Oh yeah, I agree he has the talent to be a quality safety. I'm not sure about him as a CB though.
