Ravenous....  I don't know if you have worked with them before, but when I lived in Baltimore, I worked at, what was once referred to as the "Maryland Rehabilitation Center"...  They had a Rehabilitation Technology Division" that specialized in that kind of stuff for individuals with disabilities.  They might have a recommendation for you.  I believe they are now called the Workforce Training Center.  If they cannot help, I am sure there are some techies around that might.

Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in here......

Actually I am with OVR here in Pa ,  they have a decent reputation but NVLD is a new thing they are still not to used to handling cases like mine ,  I am pretty much blazing some new territory , the General rule of thumb from LIU( our special education orginization) and  OVR has normaly been Stay on disability , or take a low skill job  but I got the fire under me to do something bigger ,  on a side note PA most notably York is stuck in the 1990s in how they handle technology for the most part, so in terms of disability management  its lower on the totem pole . But hopefully I can get what I need .

Good for you Ravenouse, don't let somebody else's label tell you what you can and can't do.

As for recommendations, according to their website, http://support.nuance.com/compatibility/search.asp, they recommend that some users will experience poor quality with the built in Realtek audio. Those users should switch to a USB based headset.

I would probably do just that if you have problems with Realtek. Changing soundcards doesn't sound like a surefire way to avoid issues, since their website indicates that their software has issues with audio ports. Using a USB headset would allow you to bypass the audio ports altogether and not have to worry about compatibility issues over different sound cards.

Good luck in school!

If you go the usb headset route, SteelSeries' usb soundcard is supposed to be decent and their Siberia headset is quite comfortable.
