Any Martial Artists out there?

11 posts in this topic

Looking for a new one to practice. Hoping for Krav Maga somewhere around here.

I already have a 1st degree blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do(by an ex special forces op from South Korea) and while I don't work in a studio anymore practice regularly to keep up to date.

I completely understand most kicks are useless in a fight though and while I'm good at kicking, I also studied boxing to help out with hand to hand stuff.

I want to focus on mainly h2h since that is my weakness. I'm trained with knives(highly here by an ex special forces op. I keep one with me at all times) swords(long story), nunchakus.

I'm 5'9 160 Lbs. What would you recommend?

My top choices are

KM

Muay Thai

BJJ

Aikido

I have experience in

Tae Kwon Do

Boxing

Karate(more or less the same thing as TKD)

Anyone can help that would be great.

I'll save you some time, train MMA and make sure said MMA gym has good boxing teachers and also good BJJ grapplers or wrestlers there.

MMA is a good idea I suppose. I'm just not looking to compete anymore really. I've been training for about 6 years already and have been in several real fights. I just want to get better.

Well that would be the best way to just get better and not be weak in any one area of fighting. Despite what the hipsters say krav maga is garbage much like akido and stuff like that. If you can fight with all limbs on the ground and feet you are pretty well versed against anyone.

"I have skills with a bo-staff "

I even put Sai in my belt loop!

Go KM as it's the most lethal of the list, it's also taught with real world situations. A guy had a gun to your head. Do you really want to try for a Kimora?

If a guy has a gun to your head the last thing you do is any of that goofy krav maga crap, in fact I wouldn't even do any martial arts training for that military training and police training would probably be better suited. You could just easy easily take someone down and pummel them.

I'm nice with the Nunchaku (Chuks).  Been using them for years ever since Bruce Lee introduced them to us in his film The Chinese Connection and then the double pair in Return of the Dragon.  Awesome!

I'm a 12th degree  yellow belt lol . I would honestly say try a boxing gym. Sugar Ray Leonard's brother is the trainer at a boxing gym in Severna Park, MD. It's free to start or try out for a full wek wih access to all their training classes. They have a ring in the gym to spar. They also teach Muay Thai as well so you'll keep your kicking game nice.
