Brandon Williams

The worthless ones*. I really like how Brandon is looking so far and he's going to have to really play well since we can't count on Terrence Cody. That article combined with him speaking on how he's developed has left me sure our line won't be a problem despite injuries. There are a lot of good articles on that site(I've been brushing up on stuff for a Madden league) and more usage of "all 22" analysis is only going to make the fan base better.

As much as I've come to dislike Cody over the past couple of years, I have a strong feeling that he is going to come back better than ever. I can't say why, but I just feel it.

I'm referring to injuries. I think Cody is going to be a fine piece in our defense when he plays. I'm with you on this one though, I think he bounces back strong, but how long can he stay on the field and can we just use him sparingly for certain formations and situations.

Cody actually looked pretty good last year in his limited role. I'm hoping that he can have a good year and perhaps get himself signed by another team and become a compensatory pick for us. Lol. I'm kinda excited for him and he's essentially got a large group of his Alabama defenders here with him in Upshaw and Mosley.

It won't be much of test for Flacco and Co., but we get to see how Brandon and Jernigan fare against some really great players. I laughed out loud, when Jerry picked up Travis Frederick last year. Thanks to him and Wagner, I'll never doubt a Wisconsin Badger lineman again. I learned my lesson.

I think everyone laughed at that pick, but for once Jerry was right. I expect us to light up that Dallas defense at will.

On topic, I think Williams emerges as a star for us down the line.

I think most people thought Frederick would be great, but not a first rounder

It really does make the most sense.

So nice you gotta say it twice.  I actually like it the most out of the other names people have.

A good article on the Ravens 1 gap 4-3 under base defense and the importance of Williams this season as the 2 gap NT.

Dude that was an awesome article. Thanks for sharing that.

Williams was a beast yesterday. He's by far the player i'm most excited about this season.

Thanks for sharing great article!

No problem. I think some people forgot how important a NT is to our defense. Not only in and of itself, but just how much it frees up other positions to make plays. Here is a breakdown of Brandon from the Redskin's game:

Williams, Brandon (+3/+6): As good as McPhee was, Brandon was the Ravens’ defensive MVP. Here are the plays that caught my eye:

(Q1, 11:55) He generated great push on Lichtensteiger that led to Morris being taken down for a gain of 1.

(Q1, 11:14) Brandon slipped left past Lichtensteiger again to take down Morris for a loss of 1.

(Q2, 15:00) He spun past Lichtensteiger (are you kidding me, a man that size with a spin move?) to drop Griffin as he threw incomplete.

(Q3, 13:07) He pushed McGlynn 3 yards back to help contain Helu for a gain of 2.

(Q3, 12:34) Cousins threw a short pass to Paulsen and Williams peeled off his unsuccessful rush to assist McClellan on the tackle.

(Q3, 10:44) Williams and Brown contained the offensive right side (ORS) as Helu was stopped for a gain of 1.

(Q3, 7:57) Williams again pushed back McGlynn to generate the penetration necessary to stuff the 3rd-and-1 run, but Simon was unable to stand up Young, who pushed through for a gain of 2.

(Q3, 1:54) On 4th and 1, he drove back McGlynn again and took down Redd for a loss of 2 to snuff out the drive.

I actually find this hard to believe because he seemed to show up so frequently, but the Gamebook lists him with just 22 snaps played. I would expect he’ll play 30+ snaps per game in 2014, and if he can avoid injury, he’ll be consistently one of the NFL’s top 5-7 NTs for the next 3 seasons.

Is there any news out there on Timmy? I have been searching for a while and have not found anything regarding a time table for a return.

I guess he avoided surgery?

B Dubb aka Juggernaut is the truth!

He is a beast NT. I wonder if Alex Mack will make it back to take him. Two and a half months to heal his fibula is probable.

Eh, I find it unlikely but not unrealistic. He'll also need to be in football shape. We're entering week 7, almost halfway through the season. Crazier things have happened.

Haven't heard anything else. IMO , at this point surgery would have been the answer... Especially if he isn't back in 2-3 weeks!

No way Mack is back this season, IMO.

We play the Browns 10 games from now which means 11 weeks from now because we have a Bye week. The internet research I did said 6-8 weeks healing time and a couple weeks to get your strength back. My guess is.......If the Browns are fighting for a playoff spot, and their schedule is so easy that they just might be, he may come back for that last game depending on how their o-line is performing and how our defensive front is performing. If the Browns have no chance of making the playoffs, then I agree....what is the point of bringing him back?

Brandon Williams continues to impress me more each week. This guy is the real deal. Look forward to him being here for quite a long time. He was a great find. If he keeps this up, he could be talked about when it comes to Pro Bowl time. I also hope he is too busy to take up that opportunity. Like the way he stops the run and how he takes two o-line men on so that the LB's can get to the QB. Keep it up Brandon.

That's true, and some can heal in 4-6 weeks depending on the type of fracture; however, the player's healing process is a critical aspect of this as well. Some people are slow healers.

Mack also may not want to rush his return, and if he returns the question will be how effective he'll be and if there will be rust. When you're an OL you need power in your legs and butt, and he and the Browns could be playing with fire by rushing him back.

Also, that's the question--will the Browns be in the hunt after losing him. It'll be interesting to see if they replicate their success without him.

Edit: might be a moot point. Looks like he's done for the year based off what I'm reading online. Unless he's designated to return.

Not gonna happen. If it does, it's a miracle.

He has been playing really well so far this season. Makes me think of Dontarie Poe for KC how during the draft process he became a known name, his rookie year he didn't look as strong as he appeared etc. Last year although Williams game from a small school background given his strength and natural athletic ability for such a big guy, I thought he might beat out Cody.   This year I have seen williams pressuring Qbs several times take on multiple blockers plenty of times he has been solid imo..

As much as I love Williams, I think Poe is the more impactful player.  Don't have a ton to back that up, just sort of my impression that Poe has a little more burst and gets down the line better.
