Can anybody explain to me why Bynes was playing next to Mosley . I know he is considered Daryl Smith's backup but why not run with Brown and Mosley, that's the future not Bynes.

I didn't watch but if I had to guess my analysis would be that we want to see what we have in Bynes and if he can be a starter in a starting role if it came to that.

It sound like Marlon Brown isn't doing too well at the moment. He was my off-season pick for sophomore slump of the year. Him and Daniels. I didn't think Juszczyk would be this good though. I didn't watch the game but I heard enough to formulate an opinion that he's doing very well. I'm really happy to hear this.

My one question about him was whether he could block as well as he could catch but from what I've read it sounds like he's placed those concerns aside.

Cause brown and Mosley are essentially the same player. A thumper is more of a fit vs the niners

he looked good blocking and catching. he looks like a complete player and he seems to be a steal since we got him in the 4th

I think they are the same player at the moment only because Mosley has not physically developed. The future is Brown at WILL and Mosley at MIKE, but CJ needs to put on some weight to be able to play MIKE. You are right though, currently they are both suited for WILL.

The only true MIKE we have on the team is Bynes. Smith has the intelligence for MIKE, but I think (similar to Mosley) he is also not strong enough to be the point of attack. I have faith Mosley will develop his strength; its a little too late for Smith.

I do not think we can conclude Marlon is struggling from what we saw last night. There was only one drive with Flacco at QB. He hit Juice, Pitta, Smith Sr, Jacoby, & targeted Torrey (although pump faked and threw it into the ground). That is a pretty good spread of weapons, we can't expect everyone to have stat production.

After that, Marlon played limited snaps with Tyrod. Tyrod is an average / below average backup QB in my opinion, so it is hard to judge what Marlon could have done with more snaps with Joe.

At the end of the day though, do not be surprised if Marlon's production is not as high as last year. Flacco should have Rice, Pitta, Torrey and Steve Sr ahead of him in terms of targets.

Played good or I noticed them

Yanda, Wagner, Sutta, Osemele, Monroe, Juice, Jacoby, Flacco, Rice, Taliafero, Pierce (minus the fortunate fumble), Pitta, Aiken, Smith Sr, Butler, Jernigan, Mosley, Ngata, Williams, Lewis-Moore, Tyson, Upshaw (after he settled down), Jimmy, Jackson, Franks, Miles, Jacobs, Tucker, Koch, Taylor, Olatoye, DiMarco and Thompson (gets open or always has a step on the defender, a more acurate pass or two and he could hve had 2-3 td's last night)

Played bad or wasn't consistent

Suggs, Canty, Simon, Brown (aka Frank Walker), Hurst, Shipley, Stewart, Brown (Marlon), Forsett (can't fumble), Wood, McClellan, and kick off team ( we looked a little off on kick off coverage)

First game down and we were successful hopefully we get a stronger start from our first team defense and the same consistency from our offense we got this game.

Obviously you can't have a myopic view of Marlon struggling from one preseason game. We can, however, review reports of him struggling in camp combined with historical comparisons of other WR struggling after a hood rookie year as an indication that he could struggle, which is what I suggest.

Sorry, I did not get that suggestion from your comment. There were reports that he struggled in OTAs with catching the ball; however reports showed that he was consistent after that in camp. Then, of course, he was basically a non-factor in the 1st game. I agree that he takes a step back from last year's stat production, but not because he takes a step back in talent. More-so that the offense has more weapons. Last year, Marlon seemed to succeed out of necessity - no Pitta, no Q, no Jacoby for a while, no run game, etc. I could see receiving stat production as follows:

1. Torrey - 1,100 yrds

2. Pitta - 900 yrds

3. Steve - 800 yrds

4. Ray - 400 yrds

5. Jacoby - 400 yrds

6. Marlon - 300 yrds

These are obviously not very thought-out stats, but the point is Marlon may be buried by other options ahead of him. He may have a good year in TD receptions though.

Well, I'm going to need more than one drive to be convinced that this offense is going to be good, be I definitely like what I see so far!

Suggs overshot on one running play that have Hyde a hole inside.. Definitely something Suggs wouldn't have done in regular season I'd say

Not sure the reasoning on the others

Wait, wait. We have a tight end screen??? We have a slant pass??? We have a fullback seam route??? I am astonished!

Preseason is not the same for returning vets. Plus it looked like Suggs was being held.

Actually Suggs does that more than we would like to see. It really showed I'm the second half of the Super Bowl.

He would bee line up field and get his ankles broken lol

Suggs blew contain BADLY once or twice. One run went for like 15-20 on his side.  Simon didn't look bad per se but he didn't really put up any numbers. Didn't pay attention to the other two honestly

I never got to see the game. But I hear Lorenzo was good. I don't believe he'd do the same vs starters but if I'm wrong in the future I'll be glad. I'm happy to hear Mosley played well. Guy could be a future pro bowler.

Plus it looked like Suggs was being held.

Oh the irony :P

But I'll be willing to admit that I'm wrong in the future lol. I didn't like the pick but if he's good, then I'll accept it. I don't want the guy to fail lol

I should clarify - when I said "held", I didn't mean that he had locked arms with a lineman and then pushed down on his head.

I have to say I wasn't really impressed with the defense. We gave Pees our top 3 picks last year and this year - a spattering of FA signings - and were not really dominate on First Team at all. Yeah, nice stop at the goal line - but for all we've invested in defense  - Pees needs to do better.

Could you tell me what Pees could have done better?

Could he have made sure Suggs, a veteran, didn't lose contain? Could he have made Mosely take better angles? That drive was so bad because the players did the little things wrong.

Good coaches make adequate players good. Great coaches make good players great. At some point, we have to stop saying all our players just suck - which means every scout, coach, GM sucks at choosing talent - and admit Pees is lacking.

It was only one drive in one preseason game - but stopping the run was not what I expected as one of our weaknesses.

Good confidence builder for our 1st preseason game. I was surprised to see the offense click that well on the 1st drive, wish it continued through out the game but I'm still happy. This offense has a lot of weapons for Joe. Juice showed he wants to be out on the field more. I hope webby gets healthy and back soon! Daryl's been suffering injuries since last season, but I'm confident in Arthur Brown. Asa looked pretty good. Taliaferro did good and likes to impose physicality, he and juice will be good tone setters for our offense! Cj is a Monster! Defensive player of the year and or pro bowl! Hope he and the rest of the team stay healthy.... Go Ravens!

Still need to watch the highlights but been reading some encouraging things. Joe rolling out, a TE screen, improvements with the ground game; feels good to finally have an OC with imagination that's not afraid to show it.

You know who played well IMHO ?

-Gary Kubaik.

He promised he would fix that horrible offense from last year ; He came in here and showed that he meant it.

Our offense and running couldn't be stopped if even by our own players. I'm excited to have an actual playbook. I remember last year's mid season offense , I was happy if the drive didn't end in pathaticically.
