Anyone think this logo should be used more?

I was just saying our most prominent teams use the flag/shield period. It's very much a source of pride for many Marylanders because of its roots, its one of only two with english heraldry, and its a exceptional looking flag. I kinda think you are the one making a big deal or taking it too far and others who have responded before me make that point as well as correcting you on just how beloved our flag is. I'll give the nod to Texans and the California love for their flag but Maryland is tops in terms of love and aesthetic. It's just a discussion no need to make it out like its a war over changing the logo. I like our current logo better than most other ones, its a cool bird with a B, but it has nothing on the shield which is much classier and speaks to the sophistication people attributed to our chosen team name compared to the boring, basic, extraneous names for other teams. You disagree that's fine but don't make it out to be something it's not, were just having a nice discussion before the season starts. It's funny how this topic(which is actually fun) is somehow stupid compared to the ridiculous threads usually posted.

I didn't start out serious. My original posts were jests, quips, made in good fun, as I assumed we all knew this thread was made in fun. We all realize that there is no way that the logo is changing. It was others, yourself included, who seemed to take a very serious attitude regarding the flag, the pride of the state, and the horrible nature of our present logo as well as denigrating my posts by taking my little jests out of context. It was you that said my drawing comment was stupid. Did you read the actual comment? The whole comment? Did it look serious to you? Really?

Also I have a peeve regarding people that make sweeping statements, which in no way can be substantiated; everyone does this or all fans do that. No one can possibly know what everyone does or doesn't do. To make such statements, particularly as a support to a specious argument, is laughable, but that is a different argument.

I have actual serious reasons why I like our present logo and why I would not want it to be changed, but they are all preference and opinion, and they are serious, so had no real place in a "fun" topic.

We all know the thread was made in good fun and we have little power in the changing of the logo. Some of us just mentioned how much we like The Shield and took offense to your saying how goofy it looked and your reasoning for why not to use it. I mean you did use the words "hate" and "goofy", and its hard to tell sarcasm on the net but your original post doesn't seem sarcastic at all. Just seems like you are trying to backtrack now and play it off.

Of course people are serious about the flag, that was the point, but again little in your original post sounds like a joke though I can read some parts jokingly in your second one. I don't think anyone took things way out of context but reacted naturally as any Marylander I know personally would, reading your posts that seem dismissive and speak of The Shield being goofy and busy. I actually thought your piece about The Shield being too complex for fans to draw was funny and a joke but taken in context with the rest of your posts made it seem less like a joke.

Lets chalk this one up to a misunderstanding bro. Also a lesson on how seriously we take our Flag.   :)

Baltimore is not seen as part of Maryland...especially since people think of Maryland as a DC suburb and b-more is it's own thing.

I like having the MD flag associated with the Ravens because it reminds outsiders B-more is Maryland. The term DMV used in DC media is for a reason...DC claims MD like a tri state.

I feel b-more needs to take back some of Maryland.

I like "The Shield"/Flag representing the Ravens,Orioles,JHU and Maryland.

UMD is a suburb of DC...and culture shifts in 30miles. I feel like UMD should be in a neutral location cause everyone in the area is about DC & DC sports. The state if Maryland is more than a suburb of DC and I think UMD needs to be in a location that represents the state of Maryland.

I agree but there is little we can do about it now. Was also furious when I read that it was UMD students who helped the Colts move in the middle of the night but it seems like there was always that loyalty to DC solely. Yeah Maryland is more than just a DC suburb but if we include the others you'll find they aren't loyal either and cheer for Pittsburgh and Philly teams.

A few notes on this thread:

Someone said the Maryland flag was just 1 of 50 "just like it."

Well... go look at a chart of all the state flags and you'll notice one glaring outlier:  The Maryland Flag.  Seriously, there's actually articles out there on how cool the Maryland Flag is compared to basically all other flags, especailly state flags.

Someone said that Ravens are not just black.  Well.... they actually kind of are.

And lastly, alternate jerseys are just the way things go.  Traditionalists need to let it go and just accept it.  As long as they don't trot on the field with something as hideous as those Steeler alternates.... who really cares.  The players have always liked to wear the all-black, so let the players wear what they want for the game of their choosing.  They can only switch it up 2 games a season, so you'll still get the traditional "team colors" for the reamining 14 games!

The media term DMV exsist for a reason and baltimore is seen as a seperate entity up the interstate. When you tell people out the area you from Maryland the convo shifts to they know people in DC and MD....never shift to anything about b-more. B-more is an episide of The Wire.

From b-more county & Been in PG county for a minute and tell people you from MD...and you get oh that's b-more and not Maryland. You realize the transplant nature of DC is in northern virgina...everyone else is localized and people that moved & embarrassed DC as a hometown.

I just feel the b-more influence for a major city of a state is low but the Ravens have helped it grow. You can find ravens fans in montgomery county.

It's funny cause 10years ago DC was the murder capital and minus a few things no better place to live than b-more. People use to get out of DC after work and look at it from virgina, haha.

I jumped on the Ravens bandwagon late, LOL.  After the Stallions left for Montreal, I decided to root for them after they got the name Ravens.  Had to deal with iditots who yelled at me for supporting Modell, not getting the game on at Dave and Busters in White Flint Mall and getting tokens from the management.  I watch the games at Rock Bottom Arlington with the DC/VA Ravens Meetup group.  There's another Ravens bar called the Mason Inn in the Glover Park section of DC.   The reason I think there only two is for the last few years, every Ravens game has been on TV down here.

Hi I'm new to the forum and also a fairly new Ravens fan from Canada. I'll be honest I've only recently started following the NFL. Being from Canada, I didnt have a hometown team so I decided to randomly choose a team (using a random team generator online) and it came up with the RAVENS and so ive decided to adopt them as my team. So im all set to start cheering for my new team But one thing has been bugging me. could somebody PLEASE explain to me why the current logo is sometimes blue and not purple? For example, on this website it is blue by the main links (news, videos, photos). In no way shape or form is that purple. It's "royal blue" and you can tell as it's contrasted by the color of the links, which are in fact purple. I know that the color of the jerseys is a shade that's basically royal blue with a tiny but of red, making it look blue in some lights and purple in others. And the stripes on the helmets/logo are royal blue while the jerseys are blue/purple. Also, if you look at the fans in the stands, half of them are wearing blue, the other half purple (I'm guessing because the Chinese are as confused as I am about the color). Purple is the official color, not blue. Tough to be a fan if I cant even figure out the colors... Could somebody please shed some light on this.

We are Purple Black and White with a little gold... and I love the red eyes....  It is a bird of prey.  It hunts!  Why in God's name do we need to change the logo?  The bird is cool... It's an angry Raven... I love it...    The O's actually do have a circular MD Flag (shield) on the sleeve.  Leave it alone.  Some people just have to pick...  never satisfied... SMH

They've been using it for a while...  It's an opinion, and mine is that I don't like just the black and white...it would look really bad on a black helmet... Too much like the Raiders...    Everybody doesn't agree that it needs or should be changed...

The Ravens use a deep purple, which often appears blue. The Vikings use a brighter purple so they don't have that problem.

More where? On merchandise? I can see that. I like to see some variety on shirts and hoodies etc. I have a large number of t-shirts, like I am sure most of you, and not all of them are just purple nor even have the Raven on them. The unis and jerseys, I like purple. I wont even buy a black or white one.
