Best QB in the league?

58 posts in this topic

Rodgers, Peyton and Brees are in their own category for me. No disrespect to Tommy but there's a lot of complications for me to put him among those.

He would be by himself in the next tier though.

Flacco, duh! Cause he said so.

Had to, sorry.

Haha...  I made this cause my friends and I were trying to decide who we had.  We all have the big 4, Rodgers, Brady, Manning and Brees.  The difference is just the order.  My friend is a Giants fan who you would swear is Bill Belichecks son, the way he praises the Pats and Brady.  I said Rodgers is the best and he says Brady.  He hates the Packer though so I think he's slightly biased and I'm not too fond of the Pats, so he thinks I'm a little salty when I say Brady isn't #1.

Rodgers from a pure skill and play on the field standpoint.

Brady from an outsiders standpoint (someone who doesnt truly follow football).

Manning from a football IQ standpoint.

I put Rodgers and P Manning in a tier of their own, because I think they'd make any team better just by being there (irrespective of systems and supporting casts). Brees I'd put in a third tier as a fully realised system QB, and Brady's somewhere in between.

And Luck as a QB who will be the best in the future

Right now, today? Peyton. Don't really think that is up for debate. There is him and Rodgers, then there is the rest of the NFL

Brady isnt very accurate, and that article stating he isnt top 5 in whatever was right. Brady pads the stats by running a screen/short yardage offense that was bestowed on him. Manning crumbles under pass rush pressure, as we saw, and Rodgers holds onto the ball too much and needs to be healthy. Brees is the same as Brady, but replace Edelman with Sproes or Cooks and Gronk wth Graham. Ben and Luck arent consistently accurate or smart with holding onto the ball either. They all have flaws. It is not farfetched to have a guy like Flacco in the conversation, who's biggest weakness recently has been too little surrounding talent to showcase his skills.

I would disagree on Brady's accuracy. And yes he plays a fast tempo short passing game now. But he has operated a high explosive play stretch the field offense as well.

Your point is taken that every quarterback has weaknesses and strengths. I would put

Brady

Manning

Rodgers

Brees

Roethlesbeger

Luck

Flacco

In the conversation.

Just behind...

Romo

Eli

Rivers

Ryan

Wilson

Cutler

Stafford

Those are the guys you can win a championship with for sure IMO.

I think Andrew Luck has just begun a Hall of Fame career that will rival the Manning's and Brady's ... this kid is far too good to be so young.

I'd wait til Luck actually does something in the league before I mention him in the same breath as HOF QBs, and other QBs who are still on the rise and have already won a SB

I think it's Brees. He generally wins the big games when he has the ball last. Usually though it's been his defense that lost the game at the end. Brady hasn't been great as of late in the biggest of his games. Manning always seems to play bad in the biggest game. Rodgers usually does well all the time but he has faltered a little in his last playoff games. If we're just talking talent then it's Rodgers all day. he has the best total package or ability to read the field, arm strength, precise delivery, mobility, and toughness.

Agreed. Luck is the most overrated QB in the league right now

To answer the question, Rodgers.

I don't think its too soon to put luck in with those guys. He has all the physical talent and the mental aspect of the game down. He just carried an otherwise abysmal colts team to two playoff appearances. I put him right there with the top 10 championship caliber guys.

Taking a two-win team to the playoffs in his first year and completing one of the largest playoff comebacks for a win the next is "something" for me. I, too, want to wait and see him continue that success, but there isn't much more he needs to do other than keep it up in order for me to put him in the top tier. His knack for winning and physical talent make it not too outlandish to predict he winds up being considered near the top of the sport for years to come.

I really think Brady can have some accuracy issues. He dirts a lot of balls and doesnt hit deep strikes consistently. He can be very accurate but sometimes it's hit or miss. Where are his 50 yard TDs? His best plays are short to intermediate, mostly to Gronk or someone wide open. Again, that doesnt mean he's not still great.

That playoff win was aided by half the Chiefs roster getting carried off on stretchers during the game. Smith was more impressive to me than Luck that day.

And I'm convinced that 2011 Colts team tanked.

He's good but he's being anointed way too early.

Exactly, the more I read about his system the more I think that contributes to his success rather than the other way around. I think he has plenty of traits that put him a tier. Same with Brees, good QB but if I'm a Saints fan I'd rather lose Brees than Payton. Brees is a good QB with the right supporting cast and the best system for him - and an example of what Joe can be if he ends up in similar circumstances.

I don't know what he is being "anointed" with. I haven't heard anyone place him above Rodgers and Manning and the like. Just mentioning his name as one of the best in the league is not too far of a stretch for me. I love the excuses for his playoff wins already. I guess I should expect that on these boards, considering the constant Flacco debates. Luck has led countless game-winning drives in his first two years. He has done so with a mediocre defense and virtually no running game. He doesn't need to apologize to anyone for his accomplishments, as far as I'm concerned. It's not like the early years with Big Ben or Flacco where they only passed when absolutely necessarily, and the team could win when he played terribly.

Brady isn't the most accurate, but he doesn't need to be because the system plays to his strengths. I strongly disagree with your assessment of Brees' accuracy, though. I actually think that is one of his strongest characteristics.

When people are placing him as the 5th best QB in the league and are already calling him a potential HOFer, I consider that being anointed.

How long should people wait until that's ok in your book? And where do you rank him? I'm just curious, this is not an argument.
