Chris Webby is supposed to have an album called Chemically Imbalanced coming out, but I have no clue when it is released.

Can't wait for Ghost & Rae's releases. Same for TDE, A$AP Mob and K.R.I.T.

I've got so many songs from Pinata by Freddie Gibbs on repeat; damn good album.

Can't wait for B4.DA.$$ to drop. Hoping C.J. Fly or Nyck Caution or Dyemond Lewis release some solo material too.

Joey is a guy who I am looking forward to as well.

GKMC was a great album, really hoping Kendrick can stay at that level with this next one.

Just realized that Hopsin dropped Ill Mind 7.  I'll always respect artists who rap about the real stuff instead of women, cars, and money.

Hip hop has been destroyed by These artists with no substance in their lyrics. I listen to early and mid 90s rap

Hip-hop hasn't been destroyed. There are still tons of great artists today. They may not get the shine of others but they're there.

Yeah I agree, still some really good artists out there today.

The problem with a lot of it is that the big companies have gotten a hold of it.

That in my opinion is why. The roots of hip hop were to spread awareness utilizing thought provoking lyrics. It's a total disservice to the entire genre when artists like Nikki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross are at the forefront representing it.

I'll forever, first and foremost, always be a Stan....

Also like a lot of 90's rap. Pac, BIG, Big pun, Big L, Nas, Method Man & Redman, --- early 2000 Jay Z, early 2000 Lil Wayne --- Jadakiss, Styles P, 50 cent, Fabulous, --- Hopsin and Los a few years back, --- Kayne West(2004-2007), Cassidy, --- Outcast & Beastie Boys (if they even count)....

Kendrick & J Cole are the only 'current' rappers I'll listen to in 2014. I've like Kendrick for awhile now. I haven't heard a new J cole song for what feels like years. What's up with that?

The roots also go back to people just riffing on the corner over beatboxing, which evolved into battle raps, which inevitably led to bragging.

Mos Def is my favorite rapper and I love guys like Kweli, Tribe, Black Thought but there are different sides to every genre and I love listening to other styles.

Artists like Ross and Nicki don't represent the entire genre. They're popular but anyone who truly listens to rap knows there are better lyricists and artists beyond them.

On another note, anyone listened to 'The Water' by Mick Jenkins? One of the best mixtapes of the year.

Hopsin comes of as kinda forced and corny, but he's not that bad.

Ross isn't even that bad tbh, its just his fake thug persona. Mos Def, Kweli, and Black Thought need to get so much more love.

Ghost is honestly my #2 fav of all time (after Nas). He is probably the most constant artist of all time. All of his album are at least good and he got at least 2 classics (Ironman and Supreme Clientele) and debatable three with Fishscale.

Pinata was amazing, Gibbs is another favorite as well.

I can understand that.  I like the guy because he truly seems to have fun and enjoy what he's doing.  I'm not a huge fan of many of his album and mix tape releases, but I like the "Ill Mind" series.  I think that's when he's at his realest.

I like a few songs off that... I think the beats were superb.

Specifically, Devil in a new dress, Runaway and Monster.

I listen to a lot of the rappers of today... my favorites off the top of my head are Chance The Rapper, schoolboy Q, TI, Wiz khalifa, The Game. Also love old school stuff like Eazy E, Biggie, Tupac and Rakim.

finally a rap thread. Anyone here listen to iamsu?

Yes!! Only That Real is my favorite of his.

Immortal Technique is a perfect example of what it should be. Dance With The Devil by him is a classic IMO

That song's got some serious meaning behind it. Great rapper and writer.

I tend to agree, not a lot in the mainstream that I enjoy, especially not like the big acts from the 90s that I did enjoy. However there are a lot of indie guys out there doing some great work rapping and often producing everything themselves. A few have broken somewhat mainstream so you may have heard them but some of my favorite artists in the genre today: Aesop Rock, Busdriver, Tyler the Creator, Childish Gambino, MF Doom, Madlib to name just a few. Was always a big fan of the lesser known Jurassic 5 and Pharcyde back in their days too.
