I feel for Raiders fans. They are some of the most rabid fans out there and have been dealing with a crap team for a long time. They've been jerked around before and now, just as it looks they've got some solid young talent, they get yanked away again. Franchise moves are almost always a tragedy, especially when they involve long-time franchises.

I hate it for them for the same reasons. I know I mentioned it before but at this point I would rather see the NFL have expansion to new cities rather cities take away teams from current cities.

I would have rather had an expansion team in Baltimore than have Modell's hurting another city of their franchise, but sometimes you have play with the cards they dealt you.

Raiders are going ANYWHERE!

Casino mogul Adelson pulls out of Raiders-Vegas stadium deal

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson pulled out of a deal Monday to build a $1.9 billion domed stadium for the Oakland Raiders in Las Vegas

The move deprives the team of a chief financial backer as it seeks to bring professional football to Las Vegas for the first time.

Adelson played an instrumental role in the effort to lure the Raiders, which eventually grew into spending $750 million in taxpayer money on the deal.

He and his family had pledged $650 million — an amount the team will have to seek from other sources.

In a statement, the Raiders acknowledged Adelson’s involvement in the project over the past year and promised to make good on owner Mark Davis’ vow to move to Las Vegas.

Adelson’s withdrawal means the Raiders will go forward with a decision pending before NFL owners, who must approve the move.

The $1.9 billion project would consist of a $500 million commitment from the Raiders, along with $750 million approved by the Nevada Legislature last year with an increase on Las Vegas hotel taxes. That leaves $650 million — Adelson’s previous pledge — to complete the funding.

Team officials said previously they were enlisting investment bank Goldman Sachs for the project.

The lease proposal would have the Raiders pay $1 a year in rent and operate the 65,000-seat stadium that would be built at a site yet to be decided, probably just off the Las Vegas Strip.

In Adelson’s terse statement, the chief executive of Las Vegas Sands Corp. declared that he had been shut out of talks that led to the lease proposal last week between the team and the public board tasked with building and owning the stadium.

If you don't provide a link, then it's plagarism and not allowed.  If you find a story on a dubious source, confirm it before posting.

Anyhow, here's a legit link and the article is a little clearer about what is going on.

With the reported issues of the Raiders moving to Vegas, the city  of San Diego has reached out to the Raiders about them relocating to San Diego.

I mean.........every time they play in San Diego, it's a home game for the Raiders.

I am just glad we have a team that invests money in keeping their stadium up to date and looking good although to be fair, we actually show up when our team plays

San Diego is a bad sports town. They should stick to Baseball just like Baltimore did for years without the Colts.

SD is a terrible sports town is an understatement.  With roughly 250k military people, most are from different places of the country and already have a team they already follow.  For those who move here and become Chargers fans, dont seem much involved.

Qualcomm is basically a home game for every team sans the Browns, Jags, and (I think) Titans.

The other rumor about the Raiders was that Ronnie Lott was going help finance a new stadium in Oakland.   In San Diego, the taxpayers essentially told Spanos to drop dead!

Just like Shaffer told Irsay to drop dead when he wanted a new stadium in Baltimore to replace the old Memorial Stadium.

The whole idea of the cities paying for stadiums is ridiculous to me. I'm far too used to the premise that if a team wants a new stadium then they have to pay for it themselves unless the stadium was used for a previous event (West Ham after the Olympics & Manchester City after the Commonwealth Games). I don't understand why people have to pay for a stadium for a team or sport they may not care for.

given the fact that the owners make money off the stadium it makes sense that they should have to pay for it - it's a long-term investment that should eventually return its investment so why should the city fork up the money for it for the privilege of an NFL team - the only reasons teams the UK relocate are if they are threatened with financial problems like bankruptcy and even then its rare

Good question, doesn't seem as if there is a clear answer

Miami was the only dissenting vote though some teams i'm in contact w/in the meeting don't know precisely why MIA voted no

May be, Miami have been planning on moving their team to Las Vegas all along and Raiders just stole their spot....lol

Here we go

Why did #Dolphins dissent? Source: Stephen Ross believes it's not the best thing for fans & NFL. No animosity. But concern for all the moves

More context on Stephen Ross' dissent: Ross spent $500M+ in private funds to renovate a stadium & keep #Dolphins in MIA for the next 30 yrs

So because he renovated the stadium he voted no? Or is he against the move using taxpayer money to build a stadium?

its probably to do with the double standard kind of thing - like why should some owners be able to hold their cities hostage for a stadium when others fork up money like they should

probably also because a lot of moves lead to a lot of disillusioned fan bases which is bad for tv viewing and the NFL in general

maybe there's some reservation about the ease of movement for the team/the continuing of the raiders despite the move announcement

I think he's against the idea of using taxpayer money.
