Cary Williams: I'm a Top Corner

Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com reports that Williams said there’s “no question” that he belongs in a group of cornerbacks that he calls “equally as talented” as himself.

Cary really never gave up a TD in a playoff game??

Anyways, can't hate on him for having that attitude. He should, most all NFL players should. The game beats you down so much you need that swagger, confidence, whatever to keep going.

edit - and this coming from someone who did not want to keep Cary and saw the frustrating plays he would (or wouldn't) make.

Cary was solid, i just didn't like his attitude. But he and Jimmy did well for us

He made a few plays, but he gets very little credit for his 4 interceptions in 2012. They were merely a result of teams throwing at him all the time. In 2011 he started all 16 games and couldn't even pick off one pass while giving up 4 TDs.

And I agree; his attitude, especially during his short time so far with Philadelphia, has been nothing short of ridiculous. But that's not unlike a lot of the CBs in the league today. I remember back when the WRs were the ones who were responsible for most of the antics/trash talk: Chad Johnson, T.O, Moss... Not anymore...

Cary and Jimmy were on islands in 2012, because our defense was rather slow that year. The slowest it may have ever been.

Jimmy hardly played that year. It was Graham who stepped up for us late in the season and made some big plays.

I'm mostly referring to the plays offs, and your right, Graham was just what the doctor ordered.

Like I said after Millner's comments (basically said the same thing):

If I'm Ozzie, I'm trying to get Ryan Mink or Garrett Downing to the Combine every year and asking them to ask EVERY prospect whether they're the best at their position. Best in their class or going to be the best in the league, I don't care. Just get them to answer the damned question.

Reason: it's such a common question that reporters ask, and there's not a lot a player can do about it. We were defending Joe a couple of season back for saying he could be the best in the league when a reporter asked. What was he supposed to say? And it's not a question that's about to go away either, because it's so good at making a story. So if I'm Ozzie, I want to see how my players cope with being asked it, because it's a matter of when it happens, not if.

Well it seems like a lot of CBs are saying this right now, even MILLNER, who had a bad rookie year. I don't think Carys out of line for saying it.

Yeah thats why Tom Brady was throwing completion after completion on you last year.

What did you give up in total? Fifty some yards in that one possession ?

I am still shocked that wasn't an ejection.

Same. How freaking lucky were we for once.

That ref was either raised in a hood where stuff like that didn't bother him or was born in Maryland.

"Or payed off..."

Said the niners fan.

I would have supported Cary in that claim when he started during Pagano's tenure. He was really good in that year. He was no good at all in Pees' scheme though.

He's in the news again today. Talked about the Eagle's upcoming joint practices with the Pats and said he didn't want to do it because he doesn't like them and they're cheaters. It's true though. Also said he still hates the Steelers which is good to hear. He definitely speaks his mind.

He runs his mouth too much. Glad he's gone. At least Richard Sherman, a true elite corner can back up his talk.

I laughed at this when I first read it because Cary Williams was not good at all. Pretty sure in Pees first year he gave up like the second most touchdowns and first downs

"I can say that Cary Williams may be the best tackling cornerback in the league…after he has given up another first down catch." -From the comments section

^This is pretty much why ^  Play off the receiver 7 yards and then make the tackle.  One of the worst corners at covering.

Didn't even realize that.  He played well at the end of that season and seemed to be under appreciated here.  I was never his biggest fan, but respected the fact he went from a 7th round pick to a starting, SB winning corner.  You have to admire that, regardless of his antics.

Absolutely. Like you said 7th rounder, practice-squad, special teams, and kept climbing until he was a starter and a SB champ. Got himself some money, he's an NFL success story.

Considering were he came from, he has done great.
