Raiders moving to San Antonio?

11 posts in this topic

I heard the Raiders owner Mark Davis is considering moving the team to San Antonio if they can get a new stadium built.  If that happens the Alamodome would be used until its open.  All he wants is an intimate place where he can have a statue of his father Al Davis outside.  This could be used as leverages, just like Baltimore was for many years, in 1985 some local businessmen tried to buy the Saint so they could relocate here, the NFL said hands off, when expansion happen they would award Charm City a team which never happened.  Teams like the Cardinals, Rams. Buccaneers for example tried to use this city as leverage for stadium deals.  John Moag of the Maryland Stadium Authority said the Bucs, Bengals and Browns were interest in coming here and the football stadium deal almost got taken off the table.  Moag went with Art Modell because he though this was the best chance of getting a franchise.

I personally would like to see Oklahoma get a NFL team before LA, Toronto or San Antonio. Texas has enough mediocre teams, they don't need a third lol. Must say though, Oklahoma Raiders has a nice ring to it.

Probably because Oakland and Oklahoma are almost identical words at the beginning. It does have a nice ring however

If they got an established team in Oklahoma , they would probably play 2 years in Norman before the stadium is finished in someplace like Oklahoma city.  The other rumor I heard was the Rams might move back to L.A. where the NFL would build them a stadium, but this could be leverage to get renovations for the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

FWIW, I would rather see the Raiders become a non-profit, joint stock club owned by the people of Oakland, much like the Packers, but it Mark Davis wants to move the club, I say I understand.

San Antonio is Cowboy country but the natives are getting restless.

Well actually... The Spurs believe it's their country and that they would oppose a move of the Raiders coming to San Antonio. Unless of course if the group who owns the Spurs would have controlling interest in the Raiders in such a move.

The Spurs are being greedy, don't see the Mavericks telling Jerry to move the Cowboys. Seems the Spurs don't want the NFL to come into "their" territory and are worried they won't be the most popular sports team in their city. You think they would be happy, I mean the Raiders moving means more jobs for the locals, more money into the San Antonio economy, who wouldn't want that for their city.

It's funny how businesses always seem to be the ones who cry loudest against business-related arguments when it doesn't work in their favour. The second comment down better sums up my thoughts, but I won't take my chances sharing it here.

I'm not sure Oklahoma would be a good place for an NFL team. That's Sooners territory and college football is king there. That's just my opinion though.
