Ravens Steelers Rivalry

88 posts in this topic

Are Steelers hate Kant as prime as it was when we were playing them 3 times a year but it is still one of the only rivalries in this league. Seahawks and 49ers games aren't even competitive... They just fight over seeding

49ers and the Seahawks are tuff right now!  Their rivalry is hot!  The Ravens and steelers rivalry has died down a bit due to both teams struggling at times and their "key" players in the rivalry getting older, being traded or retiring.  However, what keeps the fuel on that fire for me are the steelers fans with their ignorant and idiotic, "we're the only team that has 32 home games" talk!  SMH!

Not sure about the last part, but the 9ers and Hawks are heating up.  First there is the Crabs/Sherman feud.  Then you have 2 young running QB studs.  Throw on dominant defense and you have the makings of a Ravens/Steelers-type of rivalry.

Clearly the 8-8 season and no play-offs for either team in like 10 years last year took a little of the edge off the rivalry, but its the biggest in this country anymore.  However, if they continue their losing ways, the rivalry will seem as mild as a Skins-Cowboys games appears today.

Sherman and Crabtree have been a huge part of the Seahawks/ 49ers rivalry but Ravens/Steelers is a total team effort on both sides...This rivalry will endure for years.

The rivalry died a little when Ward and Lewis retired and Reed left.  Also the fact we both weren't too good last year.  Add in that Niners and Hawks are two of the best teams in the league, you need to show respect to that rivalry, especially if it can hold up.  Both the Ravens and Steelers are going thru huge personnel changes as well which kind of diminished it as well.

I agree I don't see a rivalry with the Steelers anymore. I think we are clearly the superior team and have been for a while.

Don't say that, don't ever even think it.

Ryan Clark said it once and the tide of the rivalry shifted....

The true football fans will always have a division rival. But a lot of the fans today are no longer rooting for a team just players in their "fantasy league". If you ask any die hard Ravens fan which team they love to hate the most and you will get the Steelers. And the same can be said for Steelers fans. Our rivalry dates back and is an honored tradition. The two years that the 49'rs and the 'Hawks have been at it does not make it to my list of great rivalries. Let's wait on crowning them till they have been at it for at least 4 or 5 years.

Can't say I ever heard that one before. Not even sure what it means?

The steelers fans that I know here in VA always say that the steelers fan base travels well and that no matter who's stadium they are playing in (on the road) there are always MORE steelers jerseys in the stands than the home team's jerseys!  So they will say that the steelers are the only team in the NFL with 32 home games!  Idiotic thinking if you ask me DW!

Depends on what your taliking about.  If your talking about the rivarly between players then I would have to say 49ers Seahawks.  CrabTree and Sherman have taken that to a new level.  Plus the fact that the Seahawks beat the 49ers to go on to the Super Bowl then win.  Thats got to sit in the craw of the 49er players.  With Harrison, The Bus, and Hines Ward Mendenhal gone from the Steelers, Jarett Johnson, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Tony Saragusa, gone from the Ravens that was the main guys that keep that going.  There hasn't been much talk other then Suggs and Tomlin trys to keep his players from giving bulletin board material to the media. I mean the last guy to talk a bunch got his shoulder brike by Ray Lewis. (Mendenhal)

Now if your asking fan rivarly then I would have to say Ravens Steelers.  You ask any Ravens fan what team they hope to beat each year and they will all say we can go 2-14 as long as those two wins are against the Steelers.  On Sundays if the Ravens lose it isn't nearly as bad if the Steelers lose too.  I live in Youngstown Ohio which is Steelers Country.  I wear Ravens stuff and have Ravens tattoos and I get plenty of middle fingers and F U's from random people, even when I have my kids with me.  My truck has been keyed too (we have Ravens magnets)  My son even gets crap from teachers and other students when he wears his Ravens stuff to school.  The Steeler fans I work with feel the same way as we do.  They want our team to go 0-16 every year.  Plus you throw the whole history channel aspect in with the Steelers fans.  As soon as you attack there franchise for being garbage  they pull the whole "we got six rings" bullcrap.

So I would have to say it the Ravens Steelers

All said, I think the Patriots-Ravens is a top nfl rivarly, probably after ravens/steeler, 9ers/hawks, Packers/Bears, and maybe a few others.

I think this one is heating up, but nothing rel=places a good divisional rivalry.  The Pats-Colts were a good inter-divisional rivalry because of Brady and Manning and both teams offensive power.  But you see how that faded when Manning departed Indianapolis.  The Ravens and Pats rivalry is not even close Pats-Colts, BUT it is wildly entertaining.

Even though we've had the better of the Steelers over the last 3 seasons it doesn't mean that we're dominating them or will continue our trend.  They have the better record in the rivalry and is part of the reason why I don;t mind if they have a ew really bad years.  I'd like to see that gap closed.

Whether or not both teams are successful (although, as we know, both sides usually are going well), this will always be a great rivalry. I think we will beat the Steelers like a drum this season with our restocked defence and a deeper arsenal of offensive weapons.

I think the ravens-pats rivarly is close to that old colts-pats rivalry. There have been three playoff games, two afc championships, and many a bloody regular season game between us.

Oh, ok I understand. Haha, yeah I can see how that one would get under your skin. But it would still only be 16 games not 32.

Well that's just a silly statement to make. Yeah lately the Ravens have a better record against Pittsburgh. But it runs in cycles just like any good rivalry always will.  Seems to me I remember a game just two seasons ago when an aging and pretty much washed up back up QB (Charlie Batch) came in to Baltimore and beat the Ravens.

Sorry but like I said before, this rivalry is alive and well, at least in Pittsburgh. That's for sure.

You get the point I was making in that minor error though DW!

Add Joey Porter and Polamalu. Then they also lead the league(or are tied with) the Cowboys for the largest front running fan base.

They might be great travelers, but they can't seem to attend their own games much. I just checked one year 2012 and they had 94.1% attendance and that is actually worse than Jacksonville.... I think there is much hype about their fan base and not rooted in truth.... here is the link

That's an interesting chart.  I'm not sure exactly how the "percent" columns were calculated (Hey fire code inspectors, how does Dallas get an average of 110.1% home game attendance?), but it probably is more illustrative of fan loyalty since total attendance would be limited to the capacity of the stadium.

Dallas gets 110% because they have standing room only stands. Some stadiums add additional seats for certain games too... there is a stated capacity and then if there are 10% more seats sold, it gets to 110% I suppose.

For today the 49ers and Seahawks are the best rivalry to watch. I still like our rivalry with the Steelers and agree with you that I have more respect for the Steelers now than I had at the beginning of our rivalry. I used to hate everything about them and now I just look forward to the game and hope we beat them everytime we play. I still don't like their colors or fans but I respect the way they play the game and their organization minus Hines Ward and the Tomlin incident.
