Will Hill Signed

I didnt know who in Sam Hill Will Hill was, ( see what I did there? ) But I like what I saw in that video above.  If he can get his act together he would be quite the asset.

I watched Will play each and every game he played in high school.  His talent is limitless and he is and never has been a thug.  Unfortunately, he has been surrounded by people who consciously or unconsciously haven't looked after his best interests, not theirs.  Yes, he has acted irresponsibly and jeopardized his career by staying around people who have helped drag him down and put himself in situations that a reasonable person in his position would know to avoid.  There's no way he should be involved in the music business at the same time he is trying to kick his weed jones.  The bottom line is that I believe he knows this his last chance and I pray he finally has the strength to be his own man.  If he does, I believe the Ravens have a potential perennial all pro at free safety.  He never missed a practice, always gave his all in practice and the game, and worked hard to excel in his role in various defensive schemes. Here's just a taste of how Will Hill plays and why, as a Giants fan,  I'm bummed that the Giants gave up on him.  He's absolutely electric.

He looks like a slower Ed Reed (in a good way)

A lot more aggressive than I thought especially being known for his coverage.

Also I remember when he got suspended a teammate of his said that Will pleaded to him that he was clean .

He looks like a younger Ed Reed with the tackling ability and ability to sniff out plays. That play against the Lions where he weaseled his way between two defenders wasn't magnificent to the naked eye but he stopped a touchdown for sure.

Exactly. Just not as fast

It may be just a theory but maybe we will see Terrence Brooks bounced around from safety to corner. I think this signing is great, always liked Hill. He's loaded with talent and skill, he's just made stupid off the field decisions. Perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what he needs.

Idk when Brooks will be ready and if Hill will play, but a 3 safety system along with Elam would be nice. Add in Webb and Jimmy and that's a crazy talented secondary. A lot better than Stewart and Brown/Asa as the nickel guys. If everything works out we have a good chance to be an elite secondary.

I suggested we sign Hill the day he got cut, and was met by a chorus of "no thanks". I wonder what has changed?

Don't know. I'm usually under the mantra that if they are good we could use them... So I never really cared.

Probably a knee-jerk reaction to all the "hey let's get this guy" threads after everyone gets cut or speculated for trade. A lot of posters default to no because of them. I am happy to have Will Hill though, so good call on that. He's really talented and plays well. He just needs to get his head on straight.

I did like that he admit why he got suspended. I think he said the 2nd incident was him smoking weed, the 3rd he claimed was second-hand smoke. If there's such thing as 3rd-hand smoke, I hope that's the stage he's at now. The more hands between him and pot, the better.

tgey saw he was suspended and said nope, and didn't know who he was and how good he was.

Then someone posted the highlight video and they changed their tune

He is a lot faster than he looks. Remember he is 6-2 which is great height in the back end.

Giants organization is a very organized frnachise. If Coughlin and the personnel couldn't help him, I highly doubt he'll change here.

Some people just don't get it. You can't fix stupid.

The Giants may have been doing him a favor, knowing that as a local kid from the  mean streets of East Orange, NJ, he was surrounded by people that were poison for him and his interests. His teammates loved him and the Giants loved his work ethic, but they had a 3 strike and out rule and in this case, figured keeping Hill in the NYC area was most likely going to ensure that he wouldn't get over his reliance on weed.  He was surrounded by hangers on and people who consciously or unconsciously aimed to bring him down.  It's up to Hill to be his own man, stay away from people and situations that entice him to engage in self destructive behaviour  and focus on what is most important to him and his kids, and that is a successful long-term and lucrative career in the NFL. Remember a saint is just a sinner who fell down but got back up and not just once.  Btw, I know Hill.  He's always been respectful and courteous and is no dummy.  If anything he has been immature and self-destructive, but he is no bad guy. He has a problem with weed for which he needs help and rehabilitation. I'm sure the Ravens organization will help with that

I understand the whole "stop surrounding himself with negative influences" argument, but it's on him too.  He has to be smart enough to make his own positive decisions.  In the end, it's always been his decision to engage in the behaviors that he has.  It's on nobody but himself to help turn his life around.

WOW... the kid a one baller ... i am so excited about this pick up.... welcome to the  :baltimore-ravens:  :baltimore-ravens:  :baltimore-ravens:  :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens:

I didn't know he was THIS good. He looks good against the run and the pass, big tall intimidating physical presence and hits like a Raven. Just have to HOPE that he can get it together off the field because if he does... woah that is a potentially huge pick up and starting safety...

Thanks for the insight. Really good to know.

Here's hoping a change of scene will do him good. I'll be rooting for him.

I wanted him if he could stay out of trouble. Ultra talented. I can't see how so many people are just calling this a depth signing. I think he starts if he stays clean

I think he will start eventually, but he has a lot of work to do. He's going to miss a lot of practice reps sitting out 6 weeks.

edit: I think maybe after the bye we would see him start if he hangs on that long.

This is what I've been saying. Brooks was actually a cornerback first and still fairly new to safety, so it wouldn't be a massive transition to play corner if Hill works out

In my opinion, he's just the best option. Stewart isn't a free safety and his winning the job will be Brooks' inexperience.

I would think Hill could stick around that long for fear of never playing again if he's cut

I agree that he is the best option, but he's going to be out of the loop for 6 weeks and I just don't think he will be ready to jump right in and start. If he was a Raven for the past 2 years I would feel differently, but he is still getting acclimated to the defense.

In the end, I like to think talent will win out.
