Training Camp Comments, Questions and Concerns

Keep an eye out for WR #11 (Kamar Aiken). We were really impressed with him yesterday and he was getting reps with the first string. I'd like to know if he can follow it up today.

Gotcha.  I've heard a lot of these WRs have been impressing.  It should be an interesting battle for those last 1-2 spots there.  I've heard good things about Campanaro, Butler, Thompson, Aiken, and even my boy Gerrard Sheppard.

Sadly, Thompson seemed the worst of the group yesterday. Would be nice to know if he shows better today. Only being able to go once makes it hard to compare from day to day. Guess I'll have to wait until the 7th to see again with my own eyes unless I go to the open practice on Monday.

Thompson won't make the team, that's my prediction. Only way I see it for him is if Jackson wins the CB #3 job and they use Thompson as KR/PR depth.

Also will you take a close look at how Daniels is doing? I saw a report saying he's looked a lot slower and has had trouble seperating. I'm wondering how true that is.

Calvin Pryor, a pre-draft fan fav, is out with a concussion from Jets TC. Could miss up to 2 weeks as he and Jets follow NFL protocol.

Do we finally have a system in place where below average talent at receiver can look good? :)

I remember last years talk about how great our WRs were. Torrey comes through & Marlon appears from nowhere, the others (what were their names).... :)

Here's hoping this crop fares better.

Go Ravens

He was doing well yesterday. We spotted him streaking down the sideline for a long reception. It was a big surprise as we didn't expect to see that from a TE.

Joe Flacco is looking real good, and now with another high flying wide-out Smith Sr and the veteran leadership I really see this Offense taking shape and very early..

Maybe the new offense is just that dope.

Hoping so. I'm saying its the steve smith syndrome

Remember back in 2006 our defense was damn good but steve smith lit it up anyways

I saw Franks out there today make an int along the sidelines so I am guessing he finally passed his conditioning test

I usually like watching their coverage of all the camps, but now all they talk about is manziel. It's literally half of the show and there are rarely ever even any new developments regarding him. It's so annoying

So I just got back from training camp and man what an experience. Ngata came over and shook the kids' hands. Jernigan and Urban also came over to say hello. I saw Brandon Williams do his famous handstand in person.

I didn't pay much attention to individual players, so mostly pass catchers stood out to me.

Kyle Juszczyk caught a lot of balls today. He was very impressive, but I didn't pay much attention to the blocking. There was a lot going on. There was an instance where he caught the ball, held onto it for a second and then dropped it. Afterwards, I'm pretty sure I saw Harbs personally play catch with Juice.

Ray Rice saw a lot of action and he looked smooth and fluid. He caught a lot of balls too. Pierce also looked impressive.

There was an instance where Jeremy Butler tried to make an epic catch, but he couldn't hang onto it and he laid on the ground for a while. After getting up, he was right back in the game. What a tough guy.

Michael Campanaro had a great day constantly getting open and catching a lot of balls. He's shifty and quick. He seems like he'll be a great weapon for the Ravens.

Maybe it's just me and my love for Towson players, but Gerrard Sheppard seemed to stand out to me. I don't remember him dropping a ball today.

Marlon Brown had a decent day. I remember a couple balls dropped though.

Mike Willie caught a deep bomb that he had to leap to catch. From where I was looking, I couldn't tell if he hung onto it, but it was sure beautiful to watch.

A play that really stood out to me was a circus-like catch that Pitta made on close to the endzone.

Sorry for the vague descriptions, but I had so much fun, a lot of it is a blur lol.

Thanks Rob.  Great to hear that both RR and Pierce are looking good.  A lot hinges on them.

Did Camp really look that good?  He was a dark horse pick of mine dating back to last fall. It's great to hear that he is fitting in well at the pro level.

Yeah Camp had a nice catch on the sidelines and was able to get open consistently. He looked good after the catch as well. Butler, Sheppard and Willie all had some nice plays and Deonte had some tough catches as well.

Here's my rundown...

Keith Wenning - If we go with 2 QB's, there's no way he's the guy.  He had some good throws, but followed them up with some god awful ones.

Bernard Pierce - Great day.  He looks like a great fit for Kubiak's O.  He's definitely a lot leaner and faster than the past couple of years and I think he's solidified his claim to lots of carries if he can stay healthy.

Justin Forsett - He should be a perfect replacement for Ray.  He catches so well out of the backfield and can truly make guys miss.  I'm not sure how he'll be as a runner, but as a member of a committee, I think he'll do well.

Lorenzo Taliaferro - He did next to nothing today.  He had a good catch out of the backfield but regularly got stopped close to the line.  He got yelled at for lining up wrong on ST a couple of times too.

Cierre Wood - He busted out some very nice carries, but rarely got an opportunity to do so.  I don't know if he has much of a shot, but he looked pretty good.

Michael Campanaro - Amazing.  He's so quick and shifty in and out of his cuts.  He had a couple of wobblers from Wenning that he didn't catch, but went up for over much bigger CBs and LBs.  I'm excited to see what he can do.

Jeremy Butler - The second best WR today.  He was consistently open over the middle of the field and caught most of everything that came his way.  Even though there was heavy rotation at WR today, you could tell he was one they prioritized getting the ball to.

Gerrard Sheppard/Kamar Aiken/Mike Willie/Deonte Thompson - Nothing special out of any of these guys, but they all had very solid days.

Jah Reid - My standout of the day.  He was a brick wall on the OL today.  He was terrific in the run and pass games, and not much got by him.  If something broke through the right side of the 2nd team, it was because of Jensen, not Reid.

Rick Wagner - He was solid.  Suggs got the better of him a few times but he held up well for the most part.

Brent Urban - This dude is an absolute monster.  We used him all over today.  I believe I saw him playing all across the line in 3-4 and 4-3 fronts, and I even saw him as a standup OLB in the 3-4.  He's very athletic.

AJ Pataiali'i - It sounds weird to mention him, but he might have been the laziest player I saw on the field.  He showed very little effort in warm up drills.

Asa Jackson - I'm on the bandwagon.  He had tight coverage as the #2 CB today.  He had a few small gaffes but played very well today.  Very instinctual.

Deji Olatoye - The most impressive of the UDFAs.  He played tight coverage for most of the practice.  He had a few minor issues but looked very good overall.

Tramain Jacobs - The second most impressive of the UDFAs.  He got beat a few times but recovered very well to break the play up.

Sammy Seamster - Not a good day out of him.  He was beaten pretty regularly.

Dominique Franks - An average day.  He had some good plays and some bad plays.  He got beat pretty often on the 3rd team D.

Will Hill - There wasn't much of him today, but you could tell why he was rated so highly last year.  He's rangy and instinctual.  If he can get his head on straight, we have a good one.

These are the guys I thought most would want to hear about.  If there's anyone else anyone would like info on, let me know.  I tried focusing on these guys but I have some notes on others.

As a final note, you can clearly tell who has a shot at the team and who doesn't.  Some guys got very few reps, and there was a clear distinction between 1st and 2nd teams compared to 3rd teams.  The 3rd team was largely on its own for much of practice.

Thanks for the scouting report

Thanks for the scouting report

Much, much better.  The DL had their moments but the OL is mostly solid.  The starting OL was pretty good.  Suggs was a man amongst boys today and beat both Monroe and Wagner.  KO looks great and in shape.  Zuttah looks solid, and we know what we have in Yanda.

Even the 2nd OL was pretty good.  Reid was the standout as I said.  Shipley and Gradkowski both did pretty well themselves.  Jensen was up and down from what I could tell.

The one guy I forgot, and the one that was the weakest link on the 1st and 2nd teams, was James Hurst at LT.  He cannot handle a swim move at all and regularly got manhandled on running plays.

Yeah Camp had a nice catch on the sidelines and was able to get open consistently. He looked good after the catch as well. Butler, Sheppard and Willie all had some nice plays and Deonte had some tough catches as well.

What team is he practicing with?
