Training Camp Comments, Questions and Concerns

They'll expand rosters eventually too.

I don't think they need to increase the size of the rosters, all they have to get rid of the inactives on gameday and let the full 53 be active.

The other change that needs to happen is teams should be able to put DRAFT PICKS on the practice squad without releasing them. If a team uses a draft pick on a player and they need more time (Wenning in our case) we shouldn't have to risk losing them by waiving them.

Thats the NFLs way of saying "look we're creating more jobs. Now give us more games".

Congrats to Wagner

Being silently solid at rt. would lose my mind if we had to worry about rt along with the injuries at cb.

Passing on dennard may hunt us. Wanted him at the time, still do.

Mosley was a much better pick. If we were going to take a corner it would've been Kyle Fuller.. Mosley has the potential to be an upper tier player at his position and more importantly he has the credentials to be THE leader of our defense a few years down the line like he was at Bama.

Dennard might be a good corner but he's not going to be the leader of your defense and also you can find good corners in FA. It's extremely hard to find a young ILB who can be THE leader via FA because when a team finds one they do everything they can to keep them. Corners on the other hand become available much more often.. look at guys like Revis, Browner, Talib, Thurmond, Grimes, Vontae Davis, Flowers who were all available in FA. The top ILB available in FA under 30 was Donald Butler, I rest my case.

Looking back on the draft I am very dissappointed.  Why did we take a blocking tight end vs a position that we cant get easily such as corner back, running back, wide receiver?

Take it for what it's worth, but Lombardi over at RSR said there's a rumor that Owen Daniels could be contemplating retirement.

I wonder if the Ravens would pick up another tight end at that point. Juice basically is one and Gilmore is already such an excellent blocker

I would consider bringing in a true FB and using Juice as an Hback/TE.

Jensen was moved back to G full time, and might not even make the team.  Reid is the clear backup at RT.

Again, Jensen has been playing every position from C to RT on the line and I'm pretty sure he makes the team. Reid is the clear backup at RT for now but I'm thinking both now and long term.

Wagner played well, though. He didn't look like a ProBowler, but he was solid and feels like a step up from Oher to me. Monroe's performance bothers me, however. I was really glad when we signed him, but he seemed to struglled in TC and was really bad against the Cowboys defense. Flacco was flushed out of the pocket a bunch last Saturday and he was always escaping pressure from the left.

He was one of the worst graded Ravens on PFF, too. (not that I always agree with what they have to say, but it really wasn't a game, that I expected from a franchise LT)

Yeah if we don't have a great to elite LT in Monroe then I have no confidence in this line to do what we need them to do overall. He was supposed to be great at pass protecting and a fast improvement in run blocking(zone), I think he will be better in the regular season but if he isn't that's kinda it for us,he's supposed to be the most talented. Wagner has been solid so far I'm just wondering how it will translate to the regular season and I kinda think there's no way he will be worse than Oher.

Yes, Jensen has played T, but he's been playing nothing but G throughout camp. Not C and not T. It was announced that the Jensen at T experiment is over.

What’s the situation at right tackle, and is OL Ryan Jensenicon-article-link.gif out of the picture now? (Steve Davis) “[Ryan] Jensen kind of got moved out there by need during OTAs. We wanted to take a look, but we moved him back inside for good now that Jah [Reid] is back. Jah looks better – he’s lost some weight. I wasn’t here with him last year, but he’s lost some weight. To me, he’s moving better. The young kid [James Hursticon-article-link.gif] that we have on the left side that we picked up as a free agent has been impressive as a free agent rookie. That’s something you’re always concerned about as a coach – the depth of your football team – especially as you go through camp and you’re going through a lot of reps. We’re going to have to have some young players really come through for us. It’d be nice to see Jah stay healthy and really compete at a high level.”

--Gary Kubiak

That was from July 26th, Hensley had reported it a day or two earlier

So camp is all but over. Most of these players only have a couple more days to say they are Ravens. So with that, who does everyone think had a great camp, poor camp and who was the surprise of camp?

I'd say Mcphee has had a great camp. He's really come on strong and being healthy has helped a lot. He's looking like he definitely could be more then just that pass rush specialist like Kruger was. With Suggs nearing the end, he could be groomed as his replacement.

I'll give Chykie Brown a break as the guy who had the worse camp. I'll nominate Ryan Jensen as a guy who missed a golden opportunity. It's still up in the air whether he'll make the team or not imo but Jensen had an opportunity to really show that he's one of our top young OLs. He was all the rave in OTAs but once camp started and pads were popping, he just wasn't physical enough imo. He could still make the team but he's definitely fallen.

Surprise for me would have to be how quickly the offense has picked up Kubes system. Even down to the backups now. They seemed much more comfortable the other night and I expect even better things from this Offense, especially Juice then I did before.

Another day, another missed practice for Owen Daniels.

Looks more and more like he'll retire.

Even if there is not an injury, to have this kind of soreness isn't good. A lot of us were hoping he wouldn't be Dallas Clark 2.0, but he might turn out to be more like Brandon Stokely. Give us a handful of games and body doesn't hold up.

On the flip side, both Gilmore and Overbay are getting quality reps with the first and second units.

Gillmore apparently has done well as a blocker.  Haven't heard much about Overbay

I don't think Owen is actually injured. I think he is at home wondering if he should retire or not. Nothing wrong with that but don't make the team jump through hoops bro. We need to know if we have you or not.

I'm all for letting him walk/retire.  It's obvious that either his heart or body isn't in it.  There's no other logical reason for a guy to miss 11 days of practice with a game sandwiched in there if he's not injured.

Well with Webb, Smith and Asa scratched for Saturday, that leaves Chykie, Franks and Brooks as the starting corners for Saturday's game.

Owen Daniels missing practice once again.

I think Owens role is much smaller than most people think. Plus he knows kubiaks scheme more than anyone in NFL. I see Owen as a specialty 3rd down guy.

(Think the amt of snaps bajema had past 2yrs)

This should be fun to watch. Look at it this way, the Bengals won't have much new tape on our guys.
