NFL Sunday Ticket, without DirecTV

35 posts in this topic

Huge Breaking News: You can now stream Sunday Ticket on your phone, computer, tablet, or gaming system. Yet it comes at a cost, a hefty cost.

$199.99: Let's you stream games on Mobile Devices, Tablets and Computers.

$239.99: Let's you stream games on Gaming Systems

$329.99: Let's you stream games on all devices and gives you Redzone.

You can see the tiered breakdown here:

http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/07/16/nfl-sunday-ticket-coming-to-ios-mac-for-2014-season-with-no-satellite-subscription-needed

I have to say this is a step in the right direction. The NFL needed to make Sunday Ticket available to those without DTV and they did it the right way. Streaming is the way to go, while many DTV customers who wanted to keep it just for Sunday Ticket will now drop it. I expect DTV to lose a lot of customers now that Sunday Ticket is available outside of DTV.

My god.. That's absolutely ridiculous

I would agree. Those prices are way too high, they need to lower them because nobody is going to get it at those prices. They should have looked at other streaming services and charge a bit higher than them but not as high as they are charging.

Especially since the service is horrible. It lagged behind the regular feed and was of poor quality on the days it actually loaded. Even if they had that $100 bundle with Madden again I wouldn't buy it.

They probably fixed it for this service to work. No way they would do this and offer that kind of cost if they didn't work on it to make sure it was streamed in HD and that it worked properly. It will be something to watch and see what people who do stream Sunday Ticket say about the quality.

Clearly you underestimate how awful cable and satellite companies are.

Wait you talking about the feed on DTV? I thought you meant the streaming feed for Sunday Ticket on the PS3.

Outside of games on national tv or convincing someone at a bar to put it on, I'm sitting at a solid 7 years

But no way I'm paying for that even if I had the extra money

I was gonna have direct tv(I'm the only raven fan in my house. Everyone else doesn't care) just for the ravens but the stupid HOA wouldn't let us... Xfinity is MEH(though we get that cable service for free bc taxes. So free movies and tv shows and no need for netflix).

I'm tired of Niner games and Raider "games" is my point.

The pricing is ridiculous but the quality on the illegal feed is so bad that I considered just switching it to radio and watching highlights on nflN at around week 11. And I did lol. I do get the red zone channel but our offense was so bad last year that....

Until someone else gets Sunday ticket rights (please benevolent overlord Google, save us with your Fiber), it's going to suck.

I originally got DirecTV for NFL Sunday Ticket (I also have FIOS TV). Now I wouldn't give it up unless I had too. I love DirecTV and only rarely watch FIOS. I had no problem streaming to my iPad last year. $199 to legally stream all games all season is actually pretty reasonable. It's what people with DirecTV pay for Sunday Ticket.

I was just about to post something about the price comparison. Basically it is the same price you'll pay as if you did have DTV.

NFL Sunday Ticket Max W/ DirecTV: $329.94

NFL Sunday Ticket Regular W/ DirecTV: $239.94

NFL Sunday Ticket Max Stream: $329.99

NFL Sunday Ticket Digital Stream: $199.99

NFL Sunday Ticket Console Stream: $239.99

Here comes the negative of all this. It seems this is still under the DTV banner but it just allows you to get it without having to subscribing to them. Unless of course you live in an area where you can get DTV and they won't sell it to you.

The catch

It appears if you live in a residence that DirecTV deems could easily get their satellite service, they won’t sell you Sunday Ticket over the internet. (I have contacted DirecTV to clarify further.) Testing a series of addresses, it now appears that apartment dwellers — the vast majority of whom cannot get satellite TV unless they have a well-located balcony and a patient landlord — are eligible for the internet-based package.

Ok now this looks stupid. If your in an area that can get DTV, they won't sell it to you and will force you to subscribe in order to get it. I knew there had to be a catch, it was too good to be true that they would just offer it to anyone. Now you have to prove to them you can't get DTV Service in order to get this.

If your apartment/dorm//HOA doesn't allow it, then you're eligible. They're just making this available for people who can't have DirecTV. Sounds fair to me. Otherwise they would just be competing with themselves, which would be stupid.

I have had Directv since 2001.  I wouldn't have anything else...  We have tried switching a number of times and have always come right back....  My brother up there has done the same thing with Verizon FIOS, Comcast, and Directv.  I cannot believe how clear the HD is...  every blade of grass.  And as far as the NFL Sunday Ticket...  I have to have it.  There is no other way to watch it for me here in FL.  Even when we play Miami or Tampa Bay or Jacksonville, it's blacked out...  they can't fill their stadiums.  SO, Unless I go to a restaurant or sportsbar...  then I am spending more because I am buying food and drinks.

I don't want to sound like a commercial or anything...  :)  But, I would have to say that the cost is a little higher than cable or Dish, but sheesh, you get a heck of a lot more for your money.

Yeah, I was about to say I read that in Billy Mays' voice. :P

On an unrelated note, it seems like NFL matches are a fair bit more accessible internationally than in the US. Crazy, but I guess it makes sense.

People will buy it, because at the end of the day-or season, it's still cheaper than going out to a bar or restaurant every sunday, dropping 40-50 bucks or more on food/drinks just so you can watch a game.

The NFL's TV coverage areas are a joke too.

Why is it possible that on a Sunday, here in Delaware..1 hour from Baltimore we will be forced to watch a Miami- San Diego game over a Ravens game. I understand when they and the Eagles are carried on the same network at the same time, they show the Philly game instead..but geeze! I think there were more Cleveland Browns games on tv here than Ravens games.

Why? So they can sell rediculously priced TV packages to people like me and some of you. So, I've gone old school. I found a free radio app that I can get the Ravens radio broadcast feed on and listen to the games while pretending to do yard work.

All cable providers should be allowed to have NFL packages...and I don't mean Red Zone..which is pretty much the same coverage you are going to get on NFLN from 1-4 every sunday.

This is a huge bump but for good reason. Even though they are essentially the same company now after the merger, A T & T has announced that they will be getting Sunday Ticket as a part of their merger with DirectTV. So I guess even though it's a merger, you could say you can now get Sunday Ticket through another provider.

Nothing beats the service offered by direct tv for the quality and no lag, even with the price, i gladly paid the hefty cost for years but i will never have direct tv again due to a disagreement over a bill, sad since i was a loyal customer for about 9 years.  There is many streaming options available but like stated, the lag and quality of picture just make it barely watchable.  I would honestly rather go spend 30$ having some drinks and wings at a local bar than sit at home watching it with terrible picture.

I just signed up for the lowest Sunday Ticket package offered to non-DirectTV, meaning I get it on my phone and computer, but can't get it on my game consoles to play on TV. However, after I paid I got a message stating that I was upgraded to premium for free, so I get it on all devices. Sweet!

Got the same deal with a Roku. I don't know why more people just don't cut the cord. I saved a $1000.00+ a year not having a cable or DTV bill. The Sunday package isn't all that expensive when you consider that.
