Biggest Fantasy Football Bust 2014

10 posts in this topic

Seems like every year, there's a player that is supposed to be great, but ends up busting. My pick for this is either Andre Johnson, or Julio Jones. Let me explain...

Andre Johnson, in normal years, is a fantasy stud that contributes mightily to a fantasy squad. Even though he has never been known for producing gaudy TD numbers, he has always came through via yardage and catches. However, with the QB issues Houston is having, along with his own unhappiness with his situation, it is very feasible to say that he will not finish amongst the top 10, or top 15, receivers this year. I think fantasy owners will expect too much out of him this season

Julio Jones is a monster. He is one of the top 5 receivers in the NFL when healthy. So why do I have him listed here?? Because it seems like he is always suffering some kind of injury, and can never stay healthy for a full season. I just don't think his durability is enough to warrant drafting him where most owners seem to be valuing him at.

Who do you think will end up busting this season, and why??

my definition of Bust- Someone who doesn't play up to expected standards/performances. Underachiever

Cam

Foles

Charles bc the Chiefs suck

Foster but only if he can't stay healthy

Murray^

Matthews

Andre Johnson

Vernon Davis

Mike Wallace

I really could make a case for anyone since FF is kinda luck of the draw(although research helps a good deal)

Charles, lots of touches past 2 years with a not so good O-line

Lynch, Lots of touches past 3 years although I still like him

Foster, health

Murray, Cowboys have no defense so they will need to do a lot of passing to keep up and have a history of shying away from Murray when doing so. Oh and injuries of course

Graham, don't see him being worth a first round choice. He should be good but not good enough to go as high as he is

Davis, San Francisco has more weapons so he won't be force fed as much as last year

Andre Ellington, gut feeling more than anything but I don't think he gets the touches to go as high as people are grabbing him

Cam, I don't think he is as bad as people are putting it but he is still going a bit early for my liking. This could change although I think the drop off at QB really isn't that bad once you get out of the top 3.

Seattle Defense, I have seen them go in the single digit rounds and while I like them, they aren't that much better than the other defenses. They are the best but you can get a good defense later or just play the schedule game.

Ben Tate, durability concerns

WR really depends on injuries, don't see any huge busts on this group if healthy although Harvin is a guy who could bust and I see Golden Tate disappointing a bit.

These aren't guys I see as "busts" necessarily, but they won't live up to preseason expectations.

RB: Eddie Lacy. He might be a solid RB option, but I am not sold on him being a top 10 pick. Probably more like a high end RB2. Not sure he will catch the balls out of the backfield or put up the rushing TDs necessary to be a top 5-10 RB.

QB: Russell Wilson. Rated as a top 10 QB, but he doesn't put up the stats. He is too dependent on rushing yards, but he doesn't score the TDs on the ground. He is not someone I would be comfortable playing at QB every week.

WR: Alshon Jeffery. I don't think he repeats his performance from last year. I expect a top 20, but not top 10 WR.

TE: Vernon Davis. Last year was a bit fluky. With more healhty WRs, his role is going to decrease quite a bit.

Not necessarily busts but players who will be over drafted at every position....

Peyton manning... Will not repeat his numbers from last year. Historically good seasons like he had last year have never been repeated the following year. So he will not be head and shoulders the number 1 qb (my opinion that's Brees)

Value alternative: jay cutler/joe flacco

Jamall charles: weekened offensive line. Has not been durable. Has had a lot of work recently. I would not take him in the top 3.

Value alternative: Demarco Murray/Matt forte

Julio jones: his injury concerns have already been mentioned.

Value alternative: jordy Nelson/Antonio brown

TE: I think graham Thomas and gronk are head and shoulders above the rest. They should go in the first two rounds. If you can't get one of those three wait...

Value alternative: delanie walker/zach ertz

The word bust is all relevant to where the player is drafted.  I dont agree with the OP saying AJ will be a bust because i think he will drafted accordingly in most leagues.

I think ben tate is being over valued, ill draft the back up there.

i also think gearhart is going to be over drafted big time, but maybe just because of sheer volume hes worth it

any qb outside manning, rodgers and brees before the third i think is too soon, maybe stafford could be in there

I wont touch gronk before the 4th and even if hes there in the 4th im still not taking him.  high risk high reward and i normally dont gamble until the 5th

Groink will probably get hurt and no be worth it. I haven't seen Julius Thomas go that early.
