Jimmy smith arrested

203 posts in this topic

Anyway I could understand Jimmy wanting to stay with her if the paramedics aren't there yet, but if the paramedics are there you have to get out of the way.

This.

I understand people have issues with the police, but medics put their lives on the line every day just to help others. They are the bravest people I know. They are trained to act quickly and decisively in life-threatening situations, and interfering with them could cost someone their life, you just don't do it.

Also - they are only licensed to carry a very small, select group of drugs, which they don't use unless circumstances are dire. And they ALWAYS ask about allergies.

Sounds like tempers ran high, and cooled down once the medics had the lady stabilized. The real issue is what was Jimmy thinking, out in public with a girl who felt the need to ingest enough recreational substances to require hospitalization?

I'm really hoping for his sake that she was just a casual acquaintance, or a first date gone horribly wrong.

Seems people forget there is more to the "profanity rule" than just profanity.

2. Absolutely no profanity or obscene, vulgar, violent or threatening language, photos or videos.

Let's drop the vulgarity, please.

I agree, in my book, Medics are awesome!

And thank you for your service, cobrajet.

People like to bash on the police until they really need them. It can often be a thankless job, but you guys are heroes, too.

Good info on the First Responder training, too. I update every couple years on ACLS, Trauma Nursing, and Neonatal Resuscitation, just because those are good skills to practice out here in the sticks, even though you pray to God you never have to use them.

It's easy to praise members of the military, and I'm not saying they don't deserve it, but police officers generally fly below the radar when it comes to giving appreciation, mainly because they're the ones who will put you in the handcuffs.

ABC2 just said the police found a substance believed to be cocaine in the woman's purse, though they don't suspect Smith on any drug charges.

Honestly, I'm really astonished by how many people on NFL.com are actually defending Jimmy Smith in the comments section and not talking crap about another player arrested.

This thread has a lot of posts seemingly calling for Jimmy's head to punish him for the actions if the rest of the team. First page on this thread didn't even feel like people read anything except thread title

You followed a girl into a bathroom, you're a celebrity, she has cocaine on her, and the cops show up.

And... go.

I must say, being a police officer in Baltimore area must be pretty scary

According to the police report, Smith was asked three times by an officer to leave the restroom. Yep as soon as he said anything.

Police said that after medics arrived, officers repeatedly asked Smith to step aside and he refused to comply and said several times that he was helping the woman. Police said Smith became argumentative when they asked him to step into the hallway.

Smith told police that he and the woman had done a photo shoot together earlier in the evening. Doesn't really sound like it was "his" woman or some close friend. Doubt he'd know what medications she is allergic to and all that.

Because he knows more than actual medics. This is a bathroom - they were doing their job in clearing the area for the paramedics.

Smith was then placed in handcuffs. While at the Towson precinct, according to the police report, Smith told the officer: "The only reason you arrested me is so you could get on the news."

According to the police report, the officer informed Smith that he wasn't aware of who he was and that wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome of the incident.

Smith then said, according to the report, "You will see this [sunday] on ESPN."

Yeah um..right. The cop asked him three times to move out of the way so paramedics could do their job - he refused. Sounds like he was being pretty arrogant and argumentative to me.

No this isn't an omg arrest - it is a "seriously man?" arrest. Apparently here on these forums our players are not expected to be accountable or responsible for their actions in any fashion. They are not expected to have functioning brains and simply not put themselves into these situations by using those functioning brains.

Ya it was stupid of him.But this is such a minor incident it shouldn't even be a news story.

Excerpt from Jimmy's Wikipedia bio:

"Through his high school and college careers, Smith battled occasional issues with the law which resulted in some pre-draft concerns about his maturity. It was reported he failed three drug tests, and had been charged with aggravated assault.

The concerns proved to be largely immaterial as Smith has been a model NFL citizen after joining the Ravens."

Uh, right. Somebody might have to change that soon.

Because of this very minor incident? SMH

The city can be intense and non-stop at times, and it is tough when fellow officers are killed in the line of duty, especially squad mates. It is also tough seeing bad things happen to children.

Since when is it a crime to not leave the restroom when you are looking after your friend or acquaintance, does it really matter what their relationship is? He obviously wasn't being combative. The point is this is a complete non-story.

I fully get why Jimmy did what he did and good for him.

I recon what was already an intense situation likely escalated far quicker than Jimmy was aware of.

If anything he is simply guilty of not thinking.

Sadly I think this is going to get far messier than it really should.

It is a crime when asked to leave by a police officer so the paramedics can get in to help them. He was asked three times, according to police. So how do you get he "obviously" wasn't being combative? According to the information available, he was indeed being combative, which was the problem.

The story should be that B County Police are on high alert in that area because of the new cinema opening in Towson. They are on high alert for any issues or violations. They are shaking up people in that area. I was informed by a cop of this.

they found drugs in the lady's purse so all that helping BS he was saying goes right out the window......

I think hes a moron for not just letting whoever do what it was they needed to do, cops medic etc, but how is the helping part thrown out the window? Also, why does it mean he was using drugs?

It doesn't mean anything, and he got released without getting charged, but she was found with cocaine.

Yeah, I get all that. Was asking why someone had to incorrectly speculate that Jimmy was using cocaine in the bathroom.

Its a minor arrest but it is a common sense to step away when asked by a law enforcement or an authority.

Jimmy is an upcoming face of the franchise, so he better thinks as a whole, not just what he feels like.

PS: like every1 said, no more damn arrest from the Ravens nation.......

It's definitely not guaranteed, but it's possible that he was using it with her.

I can't say much that hasn't been said. My personal experience with the police isn't very flattering and I wouldn't call myself a jerk to the law. I'm pretty obedient. I've met perhaps five officers for whom I have respect. This can easily get opinionated more than it is already.

Rather than regurgitate how officers can be corrupt and stuff, I'll simply say I don't see this as a big deal. It didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. Jimmy is arrogant. That much has been clear for some time. I can give examples if someone wants. But let's be honest--that arrogance is somewhat good for a CB. You want your CB to be arrogant honestly. Every good CB I can think of is generally arrogant. If someone wants to challenge that go ahead. I don't mind. I just think you need it to play the position to an extent.

I don't think this is a big deal and wouldn't even be big news if it wasn't for all the arrests this off-season championed by Ray Rice. Jimmy is still a great CB, is still growing, is looking fantastic, will get extended and likely PAID by the team and this will likely have NO impact during negotiations.

More fuel for the haters .. more fuel for those who love to say we are an organization out of control with a bunch of lawless thugs. Yeah, this doesn't seem like a major incident ... but please, please just cut the crap guys.

it very well might be that the police were belligerent, disrespectful ... what have you. I know some people can't deal with that, but you just have to unless you want to end up where Jimmy ended up. You have to see when a cop is in that mode - you just have to back off. I've been there ... just furious that a cop was putting me in a bad situation for no good reason... but I could quickly see that I needed to back away. Any attempt to challenge what I was being told to do would result in me being in handcuffs.

Please guys ... try to stay out of those situations ... but if you find yourself there ... swallow your pride and be cooperative. I'm really getting sick of reading about this stuff and listening to our detractors (most of whom work for ESPN) have a field day stomping on our team.

According to a source on WNST, Jimmy wasn't even drinking. He probably just felt like he was being inappropriately strong-armed by the police and spoke up. He should have listened to the cops, and just stepped away, but in the end it's really just a very minor transgression.

'@GlennClarkWNST: "In regards to the scene on Saturday night, Jimmy Smith was not under the influence of substance or alcohol."

Glenn: To clear up previous Tweet, source told me Jimmy Smith was not DRUNK Saturday night.
