Anyway I could understand Jimmy wanting to stay with her if the paramedics aren't there yet, but if the paramedics are there you have to get out of the way.

He didn't do anything wrong though, sounds like the cop was just made and as soon as Jimmy said anything he got handcuffed.

According to the police report, Smith was asked three times by an officer to leave the restroom. Yep as soon as he said anything.

This is a really big non story to me. He's right though, what are the cops going to do? I've been checked out by paramedics a few times and every time I've dealt with the cops first, it is literally just the cops.

The cops and paramedics usually aren't there together. A cop will call in a paramedic if they feel it's necessary. I don't know that it's the case here, but if it is, that cop is going to do about as much as Jimmy did. That's how it was for me. Cop asking questions anybody would ask, then calling in someone who actually knew what they were doing

I was afraid of coming on here and seeing the overreaction because of recent arrests. He was obviously very concerned about her, and what are the police going to do other than crowd the bathroom an do nothing. He was probably helping more than them. Nothing to see here.

Police said that after medics arrived, officers repeatedly asked Smith to step aside and he refused to comply and said several times that he was helping the woman. Police said Smith became argumentative when they asked him to step into the hallway.

I think Jimmy did the right thing. I would never leave my lady alone especially with strangers regardless of what the cops said. What if the paramedics administered drugs to her that she was highly allergic to or even worse? I actually went through this at the ER last night when the nurse tried giving my GF drugs that would have made her really sick. Luckily i knew what she was allergiv to and didnt let them give them to her. Gooo Jimmy!!!

This is such a non-story. He was asked to leave a woman that was in bad shape and he refused. First off there is no reason why he should have to leave a friend. It sounds like cops on a serious power trip, which is pretty common from my experience. It's ridiculous that he got arrested. I guarantee this case will be dismissed.

Smith told police that he and the woman had done a photo shoot together earlier in the evening. Doesn't really sound like it was "his" woman or some close friend. Doubt he'd know what medications she is allergic to and all that.

this. He had good intentions in mind, when the police arrived, Jimmy obviously felt it was HIS duty to look after this person despite the police being there, and as a result, wouldn't back away, thus forcing the officers to handcuff him. It wasn't like he had bad intentions in mind at all. it just a case of his mind reacting to the situation and wanting to help, even when police got there

Because he knows more than actual medics. This is a bathroom - they were doing their job in clearing the area for the paramedics.

High profile person=target

Smith was then placed in handcuffs. While at the Towson precinct, according to the police report, Smith told the officer: "The only reason you arrested me is so you could get on the news."

According to the police report, the officer informed Smith that he wasn't aware of who he was and that wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome of the incident.

Smith then said, according to the report, "You will see this [sunday] on ESPN."

Yeah um..right. The cop asked him three times to move out of the way so paramedics could do their job - he refused. Sounds like he was being pretty arrogant and argumentative to me.

No this isn't an omg arrest - it is a "seriously man?" arrest. Apparently here on these forums our players are not expected to be accountable or responsible for their actions in any fashion. They are not expected to have functioning brains and simply not put themselves into these situations by using those functioning brains.

Excerpt from Jimmy's Wikipedia bio:

"Through his high school and college careers, Smith battled occasional issues with the law which resulted in some pre-draft concerns about his maturity. It was reported he failed three drug tests, and had been charged with aggravated assault.

The concerns proved to be largely immaterial as Smith has been a model NFL citizen after joining the Ravens."

Uh, right. Somebody might have to change that soon.

An officer who lives in Maryland, let alone Towson doesn't know who Jimmy is? Guess he hasn't watched football in a long time. Police just like anyone with opinions can spin it in their favor. Anyone can spin anything around and make anyone a bad guy and make a bad guy look like an angel.

No matter what, we as fans can't judge and in turn argue with each other as nobody on this board knows nothing of what REALLY happened. We can only go off what the media reports. As someone said about his Wiki page. He has been a model citizen since being in the NFL and an overblown incident is just that, getting overblown.

Training Camp can't get here soon enough.

Not a lot of things makes sense. There's probably a clear explaination to what has happened.

Either way, this is going to bite Jimmy.

For the record. I agree with putting idiots in their place, but we are completely overreacting because we have dumber people on this teams and this is just another tarnish. If not for those other idiots this wouldn't be a big deal as an arrest because let's face it. HE DIDNT DO ANYTHING WRONG. He was being argumentative towards and officer of the law? SO WHAT? Did he hurt anyone? No. Did he KILL anyone? No. Was he on drugs? no. Did he steal anything? No. Did he destroy something? No.

What did he do? He got into a shouting match with a cop and was put into cuffs for it. Was he stupid for doing so? Very, but is this as big of a deal as we are making it out to be? NO.

If you getting into a shouting match with a cop tarnishes your reputation then I should be in jail. Just saying

You can't be definitive on one said or the other unless you were there imo. Everytime you highlight the word "said" that means you are taking someone else's word. News Flash to anyone that doesn't know, Police lie in reports just as much as people lie every day. It just happens. I'm not saying anyone was right or wrong, but to automatically paint Jimmy out to be a lair just because the "Police Report" said something is neither smart or fair imo.

I wasn't there so I don't know but I have/had police officers in my family and among some of my associates and they've told me plenty of times that they are quicker to arrest someone in a bar or club because of the alcohol element, then they are in a normal element. They've also told me that it's not uncommon to see the truth bent in the name of "Probable Cause". Again I wasn't there, don't know Jimmy personally and as it stands right now I don't know any of the officers that were on site, but it could have very well been a situation where both sides let their emotions get the better of them and the Law always wins in that situation.

Smith, 25, was reportedly helping an intoxicated and nauseous woman in the bathroom of a Towson bar, but allegedly did not comply and became argumentative with medics when they asked him to step away into the hallway. He reportedly said several times that he was helping the woman.

I get that Jimmy was being helpful! Great! He was doing a good deed by helping someone in need! That is to be applauded. However to me, it went bad the moment that he refused to allow the medical "professionals" (like he is in football) to do their jobs When they say move; you get the hell out of the way! End of story! It should have never gone that far Jimmy. You know this brah! Smh!

Think it's funny when compared to pretty much all pro athletes who "make fun" of people trying to tell them how to do their job

Bingo.

Now, as to the more serious part of this story that everyone seems to be neglecting, is the woman okay? What was wrong and is she good now?

The news doesn't care. They only cite the negative in the story

That part could also explain the arguing. What if she was just puking in the bathroom? In that case, are medics necessary? Jimmy may not think so and thought to argue about it.

It's the green turtle so you do have a point in the drunk thing.

Medics might be depending on the amount of alcohol she had. But I'm not sure......

Actually, Aaron Wilson reported that she was transported to the hospital.

Sounds like, from Wilson's story, that she drank herself into unconsciousness and Jimmy misjudged the seriousness.

And you have to account for the fact that he was probably drinking too so the misjudgment does make sense.

Still. Not a big deal IMO on Jimmy's behalf. Hope the girl is ok

Honestly, I'm really astonished by how many people on NFL.com are actually defending Jimmy Smith in the comments section and not talking crap about another player arrested.

I'm only sort of surprised. No offense to any cops here, but there have been several cops in the news recently for abusing power. You know, shooting dogs, firing at a bull from a moving vehicle near a crowded street, and other stupid stuff like that. Pathetic actions like those breed contempt for police. It's not that much of a surprise to me that so many are on Jimmy's side.

Most of them are probably Ravens fans.

For the record I have been awarded three life saving awards. The first award, I was covered in the woman's blood. When I got her to the hospital, I found out she was HIV positive. I did not let that did not stop me from earning the next two. Police officers do more than most people realize.

I would like to see where I said that they don't do any

Ah, I see where you misunderstood. In my experiences, all a cop did was ask me a few questions. I would be puking up my guts and they'd ask how I'm feeling. How do you think I'm feeling? Then they'd call the paramedics. I was referring to the medical aspect, if you didn't catch that.

And there have been more football players in the news abusing substances, abusing women etc. So clearly Jimmy was high on some banned substance then right? And clearly he slipped her something, something.

Bottom line: He was helping the girl. Good for him.

Paramedics arrived and he was asked to leave and let them do their job. So you do as you are asked. It is really that simple.

He was holding her head while she was puking, not clamping a severed artery. No reason he shouldn't have or couldn't have done as requested.

So no, it isn't "Jimmy is a horrible person! Cut him now!". But it isn't "oh those evil policemen!" either. His immaturity and arrogance showed.

Was the police officer older or did the incident happen a while ago? Back in the day, some of the older officers were not given very much medical training. When I went through the academy, we had to pass the First Responder course and receive our certification. We had to go through the CPR course every year at in-service training. Some officers even carry defibrillators now. Police officers are usually the first on the scene, however, we usually breath a sigh of relief when the Medics show up for those medical emergencies. I was the first on the scene one time for kid that was choking and turned blue and the family was in a panic looking to me. I couldn't dislodge it and when the Medics got there and jumped in, I was relieved. The family and I just prayed to God as faithfully as we could and my heart was pounding out of my chest. After a long scary period, the Medics finally got it out and saved the boy. I wanted to grab every one of those Medics and give them a big hug but settled on high fives and handshakes.

I guess it depends on how you define older. I'm only 19, so getting up into the 40's is "older" to me. I'd imagine the officers couldn't have been older than their 40's. Both incidents happened when I was 17. They would just watch me throw up and had no idea what to do.
